I’m still pissed we didn’t obtain a legitimate back up PG in the off-season. It’s been a glaring hole on our roster for a couple years now.

Instead of going after Giles. We should have got a true PG

At some point no excuse is good enough. It's almost 10 years. We haven't given the best Blazer in history the opportunity to play under a different coach to see what happens since current is not working. I don't care that he likes Stotts, he likes Belvins too.

A backup PG would not solve the major issues on this roster. Neither will playing Giles.

Jeff Van Gundy would be interesting.

He’s all a’boot defense - the OG Thibs.

Most hires after firing a coach tend to over-correct with someone very much the opposite of the coach who was let go. These names would be just that: an over-correction.

And cut Gary's minutes? Just to have all the same issues?

Stupid overreaction.

And you replace him with whom?

And what do you suddenly expect to change?

You fire him because heads need to roll? dumb
You've come so far, @illmatic99 :)

Also, so have I. I used to be a hot-headed ass so here's a 4-year late apology :hello:

Our defenders aren't any worse than Houston's but look at them. Stotts has never developed any player on the defensive end, as McCollum and Lillard haven't gotten any better. The coaching staff should've made this more of a priority, and if they did then the aren't good enough as defensive coaches to hold their jobs. Stotts' scheme is elementary, predictable, and makes other teams comfortable. His refusal to double leads to (Player A), (Player B), and (Player C) single-handedly taking over games in the 4th quarter to beat us. His lack of timely timeouts leads to extended runs from the opposition that kill us down the stretch. We saw this tonight. He lacks in-game adjustments and situational scheme changes. His offensive system relies on a lot of lateral passes and top of the key action from a center that can't shoot, which causes the offense to break down under any sort of legit ball-pressure, which is why it bogs down in the 4th quarter. He can't get the guys to buy in anymore, which was his only legit strength being the players coach that he is..
Guess when this post was from.

Because of weak ass Simons. This organization sweats the fuck outta him. Low key I feel bad for Dame believing in this franchise

Stotts’ 2 other NBA stops as the head man lasted less than 2 seasons.

He’s lasted nearly a decade here.

How does a coach stay on one team for 10 years with no championship let alone even a finals appearance? Shit technically he hasn’t even gotten us a single conference finals win. Has a coach even stayed that long with a similar list??

Shit if it was up to Dame, Tim Frazier would still be here. Bless his heart but he doesn’t know much. Look at Jordan, even the greatest ever sometimes can’t spot talent

A year and a half ago I was still firmly in the Keep Stotts camp. My memory of all the shitty coaches we had from after Dunleavy through McScribbles was just so painful.

A year ago I kind of came around to the idea and was ok with changing, but ok with staying. Everything was so stale and it was probably time for fresh eyes.

I'm firmly in the Fire Stotts camp as of today. The team looks terrible, the passing is terrible, and the two most promising looking guys (Trent and Giles) aren't getting enough minutes while Kanter and Melo are defensive disasters.

Btw we need to stop to think that Nurkic is a good defender, he absolutely isn't. He like Kanter get's killed night after night by Pick and Rolls. Nurk legit looks like a Statue on defense just standing there in the middle

Also, Nurk is as slow as Marc Gasol getting up and down the floor. That's not ideal when the Blazers are bricking early shot clock 3's and giving up tons of fast breaks and he's always trailing badly.

He would probably be the best established guy available right now. But I think he would demand a big salary and long contract, so it would be risky. I just don't know which of the young guys would be good. I would definitely interview Vanterpool,

If I were Neil I would give him until game 20. If no adjustments or noticeable improvements are made, Fire his ass. And just because they’re his assistants, doesn’t necessarily mean they have the same philosophies, so I wouldn’t care about promoting a Tibbetts, or any other assistant, although my preference would be Moran, I liked what I saw from his summer league squads. Then at the end of the year you can make a decision.

What’s crazy is the adjustments that need to be made aren’t even that difficult to figure out. Shit, most people had it figured out before a game was even played.

- Stop playing Kanter and Melo together. Our last two losses could be blamed almost exclusively on the second unit, and specifically these two. Whatever Kanter gives you offensively he just gives up on the other end. He should only be playing if Nurk is in foul trouble, unavailable, or if the other team has a big, plodding center on the court. Why did Stotts wait until late in the fourth quarter yesterday to pull the plug??

- Stop giving Melo more minutes than Trent, especially in a game you have a 20 point lead in. At that point you don’t need him out there.

- Prioritize ball movement and getting others involved. Play through Nurk more. Even when he struggles he’s good, just purely because of his playmaking ability. We’re completely wasting Jones, and one way to get him involved would be to let him backdoor cut off Nurk. Or use him as the main screener like Miami did. I don’t think I’ve seen that once yet.

If Stotts hasn't made noticeable adjustments/improvements to his coaching philosophy over the last 8-years - I highly doubt he will in the next 12 games.

The issues with this team are not unique to this season. They've been issues for many years... it's just more people are now noticing the issues.
