Most everyone around here knows Nate. assistant with both the Raptors and Suns.
He was interviewed by Boston and the Clippers.
Daigneault was hired from within and it still is to be determined on his job. He doesn't have a bunch to work with but the team does play with energy. Not really fair to judge the guy yet.

As far as Nick Nurse is concerned he also was hired from within the organization. Everyone knew about him. He's been there for like 8 or 9 years or something like that? Just remember he was one lucky bounce on a shot from losing the second round. He was gifted Leonard to go with a solid roster. It's too bad Kawhi didn't stay there, they probably could have been in the finals again last year.

Would i go for replacing Stotts with our Nate Tibbetts hell yeah. In a heartbeat!
Would love to see if he could get more out of the team.
Yay, KJ know's how to use Google! Way to completely miss my point.

If that was the Blazers and you were saying to replace the Coach of the Year and were asked who you'd want to replace them with and you said Nick Nurse no one would take you seriously.

"Hey bro, you seem down. Want to talk about it?"

- "Yeah, I want to break up with my girlfriend. She's a nice girl but there's certain qualities that she's lacking that I want in a partner"

"Ah I see. Well, who would you replace her with?"

- "Huh?"

"Well you have to know some ok me better if you want to break up with her. Or else your reasons arent legitimate."

- "What're you talking about? I'd break up with her then hopefully meet someone new through dating..."

"Well, how do you know THAT girl wouldnt be worse?"

- "Well that's why I'd date, to make sure I found someone with the qualities I'm looking for."

"What about John's girlfriend? Would you say John and Amy are doing well?"

- "I know they went through a rough patch but what does that have to do with my situation?"
But Torey, some couple in Boston is having troubles too that means you have to stay with your current GF.

yeah..because everyone knows couples and dating is an adult comparison to a sports league and those couples compete for titles and positioning......I'd say this page has failed the BBIQ test....funny contract extensions weren't mentioned in the dumping the GF analogy...9 years of loyalty isn't your typical speed dating night out....and I've been with the same woman for 32 years....loyalty and respect make for a successful pairing. So does keeping a healthy household and a sense of humor....this thread has derailed

Loyalty to mediocrity is absolute bullshit. How can a sports team compete with that kind of mindset.

We're making the playoffs.....enjoy the ride and my loyalty has been to anything but mediocrity.....water down your own expectations. It's a fun season if you will just let it be that . I just think a lot of this perpetual gloom about the team is habitual and not justified. Enjoy the thread....you know what's bullshit....that discontent and grumbling is the status quo for some ..y'all have fun with that

If me being disgruntled would increase the chances of the Blazers having deep runs in the playoffs, I would be all about it. Since it's not, I'm trying to enjoy the ride, even in the Telfair/Khryapa years.

I do enjoy the ride but I will not water down my expectations. That's some bullshit. Why should we have the longest tenured head coach in the history of the league without a conference finals win? Why should we have to have lower expectations than any other team? What you're saying is ludicrous.

I have always and continue to love watching the Blazers play basketball but in my opinion part of being a fan of a team is wanting them to do the best they possibly can. I don't think keeping a GM and coach around for longer than any other organization would is doing the best the Blazers possibly can.

I can love the team and want them to be better at the same time. You might think that it's some kind of weird binary situation where you either love the team and accept exactly what they are or you don't love the team and don't accept what they are. That's just not how I see it and it's definitely not how most sports fans see it.

If you dont understand the analogy or the point, I cant help you.

You got it all right. If only everyone was like you.

If you think we've had top 2 rosters in the West, then this certainly would be a fair gripe.

In my opinion, a coach with 3 HOF players, who wins 11 playoff games a year would be worth firing. While a coach who fails to get out of the 1st round with a crap roster, should keep his job until given a better roster. Obviously Stotts is somewhere in the middle of this, but success relative to roster talent is critial in my eyes.

Signing Becky could be really interesting. Blazers would make headlines all over the world as, you know, Trailblazers.

Since we not aiming in Championship anyway and we just want to enjoy the ride, this would add some entertainment. Everybody would be interested how is Becky doing.
I'm not sure how young, big athlete would react to woman as a coach, but again, it would be interesting. It would be interesting to see Lillard in this situation, cos being loyal to Stotts is somehow easy.
It would put real pressure on Hammon to make good run and she would have to try hard to use Pops arsenal she learn in Spurs.
Lillard is going to put this numbers and gonna take team out of shhh no matter who's on the bench.

And if it was Olshey, who doing it, imagine how high he fly as GM if it pans out.

Let’s just give Stotts a lifetime contract until we get him the absolute “perfect” roster because having the greatest player in franchise history just hasn’t been enough. He needs more time because 9 seasons just isn’t enough sample size to evaluate what he can do. I mean let’s wait until about year 15 so a fair assessment can be made. We would be lucky to find a replacement coach that can produce the 28th ranked defense two seasons in a row. There aren’t many coaches out there with an impressive 0.344 career playoff win%. Who’s going to able to replicate this kind of production?

With a tenure this long and our best players that only he has coached and are defensive liabilities, how do we know with a certainty that we don't have a top 2 roster? This is why there is churn with coaches in the league. We don't know if Stotts is doing the best with this roster but I will go back to what I think should happen.

Olshey should be fired for his lack of success, admitted inflexibility in moving too many players and the missteps he's made overpaying guys while bidding against himself. Then the new GM can decide what to do with Stotts. If the new GM wants to make some moves and see what Stotts can do with the new roster, so be it and if the new GM wants to go with a new coach of his choosing that would be fine too.

What's wrong with people not wanting to water it down and aiming for the top?

Not everyone is the same and content at the same level of success.

get rid of the gf analogy. I agree bad analogy.
Lets keep it in business.
Show me one company that looks at the previous years profit and loss aNd says, cool. Im okay with that forever every year.
Not one. Every successful company is looking to out the competition and maximize profits.
Why would the fans of the Blazers expect no less of their business they are emotionally invested in?

at my company, we set goals and standards every quarter. NEVER have we set a watered down, mediocre goal to strive for.
If we hit the goal, we celebrate. But we do not celebrate if we do not hit the goal. Even though the goal is an extremely difficult one to hit.
We will still disperse bonuses, but its with the talk of needing to do better. Not being content with what we did do.
Sometimes that discussion involves staff repositioning or changing of some staff members all together.

No i didn't miss anything you said but you sure seemed to miss what i said. Nick Nurse was gifted his roster. Where is he now?

And no that wasn't Google (Sure i fact check. You should also). Everyone here knew Nick Nurse and we had multiple conversations about Nate Bjorkgren. I mean how can you forget a name like that? You are not the only one paying attention. All you have to do is read Darkwebs first post on the game threads to know who is coaching. If you actually listened to the Blazers pregames you would get most of this info.

***My point in response was two of those hires were from within the organization and the Blazers have a guy that might fit that bill in Nate Tibbetts. I'll bet if you go on a bunch of other fan boards for other teams only a few know the name Nate Tibbetts.

I also brought up the "replace the COY "pages ago when i brought up how George Karl was replaced. This was in response to Brian Shaw. They went for almost two years before finding Mike Malone. Then what happened? The Nuggets still are trying to find the right coach because it obviously isn't Malone.

Go back and read the thread.

Over 100 pages now.

But it's over 100 pages so it must be valid!
My wife and i do compete over the remote. I wonder if i should start shopping around to find one that doesn't watch TV? Better yet! One that only watches whatever i like to watch.

Or you could trade your wife in on one like have. My wife lets me watch whatever I want anytime I want.

If they hired her I'd back her 100%. It would add something to the team.
I agree she would have to work harder but as a coach she would have to earn the respect.
Not sure how it would pan out? I'd be willing to see what happened though.

Better analogy for sure. But still not quite there.

You are making fans into shareholders. I guess it works if you measure the amount of emotional investment. It's different for each person and your company has loyal customers I'm sure.

The other side is many fans here complain about the team being "Run like a business" "More interested in profit than winning"
Again the two edged sword.

Absolutely not saying you are wrong. I agree with this premise. Just playing devils advocate.

I also am not opposed to getting a better new system in place that takes the team further. If that takes firing Stotts then so be it!

What the fuck does this have to do with Terry Stotts?

Wasnt trying to ignite anything just asked if you thought they were good at their craft. You have your own show and comment on your opinions about players and their strengths weakness's all the time because I listen to you guys. My questions was inline wit all the critique about GM's, coaches, & records.

yep and playing further devils advocate, sometimes it doesn't require a firing. Sometimes just a shuffling, or key addition will do the trick.
Id like to see Stotts forced into a more managerial role like alot of college coaches do in football.
Id like olshey to force a defensive guru on him and put a leash on stott’s detailed coaching.

We just hired a new production manager at my work. The old one didn't get fired, just slid over to estimating/project management. Not only because there was an increasing need for help, but his skillset is now being better utilized. The new production manager has skills better set for that position.

no firings. Just increased management help and more evened out workload. Now were running at optimal efficiency.

I don't personally think the Blazers need to fire anyone yet. They just need to plug a few deficient holes in certain areas.

That is an idea i have not read on here? Maybe someone did bring it up?
Stotts moving into a GM spot and hiring a new coach?
Becky Hammond?

Think about that?
Stotts is 63. Is he ready to move off the sidelines?

No question he could use a defensive coordinator that could shake things up.

You have two TV's. Tell the truth.
Three actually. But whatever one I want to watch she drops her program and either watches her show on another TV, all three are connected to the same video recorder, or does some kind of housework which is usually fixing me a delicious meal. The only two things she expects of me is that I sit down to eat when she calls me and that I go to bed when she goes to bed no matter how early that is. Oh, she also expects me to never raise my voice or curse unless the loud voice and cuss words are directed at Trump.

Yep, I agree, he could use a masterful defensive coordinator.
