Re: BREAKING NEWS

I don't understand this theory. You are not the only one saying it. What part of Andre Miller's game suggests that? Certainly his lack of 3 pt shooting doesn't. Andre Miller can run an offense, any offense. If he can't run the point in a so called Nate offense, how many PG's can?

The blazers under Nate are a very slow paced team. When Miller doesn't play at a fast pace, his lack of shooting will become apparent', as well as his below average, slow defense. I also believe he might struggle playing with talented bigman because of the space in the paint he needs to get his shot off.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

Yet somehow Billups comes in, and magically heals the team after Iverson is shipped?

So your saying Billups sucks and has nothing to do with the success of Denver? Billups isn't a damn, damn good PG and couldn't have possibly helped the team out with his PG talents? Is that what you are saying?

I already dispelled this notion. Miller has had very good #s with Philly, a statistically slow team: http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2009.html

Ok, so what's the next move?

In the half-court, Miller is very good at getting to the hoop and finishing/drawing fouls. That's a good match with big men like Aldridge and Oden, because it forces the opposing big men to rotate over...leaving either Aldridge open for his bread-and-butter short/mid-range jumper or Oden to attack the hoop. Miller has the proven vision to find them.

Miller is very good on the break, but his slashing and passing ability are strengths in the half-court. And his shooting problems are only for the perimeter. He has a relatively reliable mid-range jumper.

A banger. I hate to say this but I still feel Outlaw should be traded along with Blake. We do need to get a better defending and tougher back up PF. We need to free up minutes for Rudy.

Outlaw and Blake should be packaged out, if at all possible, for a banger.

Re: BREAKING NEWS

Me too! That's fucking a steal. Blazers, IMO, played their cards nearly perfectly, after the Hedo debacle.

Yeah, who would have thought that an idiot jackoff moron like KP could pull this off?

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Blazers to Sign Andre Miller

I want an Outlaw/Bayless for Landry/Battier deal.

Have we renounced our trade exception from the Diogu deal? If not, then we can pull a TE for Landry deal, and then do a TO + JB for Shane trade.

Check it:

Miller/Roy/Battier/Aldridge/Oden

Blake/Rudy/Batum/Landry/Przy

I would be all for that, but that "banger" would have to be fairly productive, not just a large, hustling scrub. Both Blake and Outlaw are productive players.

If New Orleans still wants to dump Chandler, that might be a target, since Blake and Outlaw expire at the end of the year and give them a couple of useful players in the meantime (Blake would be a nice backup for Paul, Outlaw one more weapon for Paul to make look good).

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Blazers to Sign Andre Miller

congrats on helping mr. miller build his retirement plan because the only basketball he's going to be playing at the end of his contract is in an assisted living facility.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Blazers to Sign Andre Miller

Ok, so what's the next move?
Get a sharpshooting veteran three who plays defense and can hit the wide open 3. Unless Batum is ready. A backup PF/C is also needed.

wtf? ARe you freaking kidding me? You are seriously proposing a trade for Battier after all the grief you gave me for my idea? And you want Houston to take an unprove tweener and a proven black hole.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Blazers to Sign Andre Miller

Miller only had 53 3-pt attempts last year (higher than it has been recently), which would have put him in 7th on this team. Take that away, and here is how he compares to Portland's guards from within the arc, as well as some FT stats:

Roy .501 2FG, .824 FT, 505 FTA, .174 FTA/Min
Miller .483 2FG, .826 FT, 409 FTA, .137 FTA/Min
Fernandez .470 2FG, .839 FT, 143 FTA, .072 FTA/Min
Blake .429 2FG, .840 FT, 75 FTA, .034 FTA/Min
Rodriguez .428 2FG, .792 FT, 77 FTA, .063 FTA/Min
Bayless .383 2FG, .806 FT, 103 FTA, .157 FTA/Min

We're talking about a player that can get to the line with a little less frequency than Brandon Roy and Jerryd Bayless. Yes, his offensive skills are more limited when he can't shoot it from behind the arc, but he can get his points, and he can make plays.

I didn't include Rudy and Joel. You insist on that.

My idea shows what I think Battier is worth.

I couldn't really find a banger that was in the salary-range that a Blake/Outlaw would bring back. At least nothing that seemed realistic.

Seems like, in order to get a banger to replace Outlaw, we'd need to either deal a combo of Out and Bay, Blake and Bay, or just one of either Out, Blake, or Bay.

I was thinking along the same lines, other than my idea included Webster instead of the TE. A while back, in the trade/transactions forum of another 'site, I recall a lot of Houston fans being open to a Webster for Landry deal. That said, Outlaw, Webster, and Bayless for Battier and Landry would be an solid, solid trade for us, in my opinion. Not sure if Houston would do it, but I would think they'd be open to a Battier for Outlaw/Bayless trade... and, if the thoughts of their fans reflect those of management, even remotely, maybe they'd be willing to swap Landry for Webster, too.

Fill-out the rest of the roster with guys like Dante Cunningham, Jeff Pendergraph, Ime Udoka, Pooh Jeter, and Bobby Jones.

Miller / Blake / Jeter
Roy / Fernandez / Udoka
Oden / Przybilla / Pendergraph
Battier / Batum / Jones
Aldridge / Landry / Cunningham

No, I insist on giving value for value. Whereas you insist on bending Morey over a table.

Here's a fair trade:

Joel + Rudy + Outlaw for Battier + Landry and filler.

That's a trade that might actually happen because Houston gets some love. That's what annoys me about everyone who hated on that trade. I never see them come up with anything reasonable. RR7,CTC, Minstrel and others at least came up with good reasons not to do it (Houston needs youth) and plausible trades in response.

I like that idea. I still feel like Houston and most teams won't trade value unless we include value (Joel, Batum, Rudy and maybe some still like Bayless) out of those I'm inclined to trade Joel and either Rudy or Bayless but not both. Obviously we can throw in Outlaw and Blake because they are just that, throw ins.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Blazers to Sign Andre Miller

That's the fundamental difference here. JB + TO for Battier + Landry is fair, in my mind.

Are you out of your fucking mind? I get the feeling you think Battier is an all-star or something, or you're just trying waaay too hard to appear unbiased.

Just please, STOP.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Blazers to Sign Andre Miller

Before the offseason, I thought Miller would be Portland's prime target. Miller could be our Chauncey Billups.

The fact that it's a short deal is also great, for obvious reasons, in that we don't commit a lot of money to an older player, we get a chance to see how this works.

Now we wanted Hedo to get another guy that could run the offense, make plays for his team-mates, and relieve Brandon Roy....Miller is that guy, and he can also help us push the tempo and get easier buckets....not to mention, he's a much more efficient scorer than Hedo.

I was surprised that they didn't seem too interested in him, and figured the Blazer scouts must have seem some deficiencies that I didn't...but look at his numbers...he obviously still has gas left in the tank.

wonder what # he'll wear

Roy is all-nba and his mid-range and close-in game make coaches go weak at the knees.

And yet, your numbers show that Miller is not a huge drop-off offensively in those areas. What the numbers don't show, is that Roy does his thing as a 1st option, and Miller not - so in reality they are mile apart in ability. But since we aren't changing those roles, we should get similar results in production.

Blake is a poor 2pt shooter and doesn't draw fouls - at all. Really poor. His high FT% is thus meaningless. Can't run the fast break. Can't create for other players. Ok ball handler who is careful with the ball. Great 3pt shooter. A decent, but limited player.

If Miller can play as well as he did the last couple of seasons, it will really help our team.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Blazers to Sign Andre Miller

probably back to #24 ?

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Blazers to Sign Andre Miller

1 year would be great, he would be a salary chip at the trade deadline
