I heard Jamal Crawford talking on Dan Patrick show this morning and they were talking about how important mid range is the playoffs.

I’ve been saying this same thing for the last 5 years. The mid range shot is crucial in the playoffs. Teams take away threes and the paint. Really good teams are able to score in the mid range. Our philosophy all year has been layins or 3’s and in the playoffs they shut down the paint. I think we need to change offense and go back to a more traditional offense especially since we are so bad at 3 point shooting. Obviously having Lillard next year will help but I still say we have to be able to hit mid range shots to have success in playoffs.

agree and Shaedon and Scoot should be able to get a mid range anytime they want.

When I heard that we were switching our offense I said that is going to hurt Sharpes game. He has all the tools to be a great mid range scorer

Portland was 11 of 47 from three while San Antonio went 12 of 30. That’s right, the Spurs had 17 fewer three-point attempts and yet scored 3 more points than the Blazers from deep.

It is not just a lack of mid-range. The team, to me, often looks offensively like a Dame & the don't-shoots offense we had for so long.

Dame has been replaced by Deni and we have others that are willing to shoot but they often can't hit squat.

I watched SA offense and there is a lot of passing and ball movement. Not as much on the Blazer side of life. Lots of dribbling but not a ton of ball movement. Guys standing around saying "Pass me the ball! I'll shoot (and miss)!"

I think under a different coach or system, we have potential. Unless something happens either player-wise or coach-wise, I have little hope for the team going forward.

Of course, I have little hope on the coaching side considering we are looking for a good high school coach as they might be enticed by the slight pay increase Dundon is reputed to be spending on coaching.

Career 3pt% - Deni 33
Scoot 34
Sharpe 33
Camara 37
Grant 37
Jrue 37
Kiejci 39
Murray 26

It helps the defense to have a literal freak patrolling the paint and he's able to do what most teams spend two or three guys on, which opens up the outside. This is why I don't listen to people who claim the Spurs are a bunch of great parts, it's so much easier to play physical in your face style defense on the perimeter when you have the only unanimous defensive player of the year at the hoop. It's easy to see why the Blazers thought having Clingan out on the 3pt line would be smart and early in the series Wemby was guarding him (not sure why) but as they figured out that DC wasn't going to burn them, he could then slink back to the paint and not worry about the big man.
