Sure we could. But we probably won't. Gun rights are expanding under our current Supreme Court, and I don't see that changing any time soon. Even states are expanding gun rights.

Oregon, Washington, and California drastically increased gun control and it hasn't made a bit of a difference. In fact, violent crime and murder rates have increased in all 3 states, right along with gun crime.

We could probably get conservatives to buy into restricting every criminal, but we'll never get universal background checks. That will just never happen.

The constitution limits the government, not the people. So limiting the government from restricting the people would include the individual, unless said individual were a criminal who has given up their rights.

The Supreme Court already ruled on that. And they are likely to expand on it to further restrict state's rights to enforce gun control.

People are arguing for restricting rights in an oppressive way that will never happen, while there are more effective and less oppressive options available.

I have yet to see any credible news article saying the shooter was trans. It is weird that there seems to be a concerted effort to say the shooter was trans.

Republicans just love protecting children. You can't say gay because their little psyches woul be irreparably harmed learning LGBTQ people exist. You can't teach about racism because white children would feel uncomfortable. Outlaw abortion to protect raped 12 year olds from being able to terminate pregnancy.
But more guns! More! More! More!

All good questions. Again, kids are 20x more likely to be killed by their parents than by a gun at school.

What are we doing? When are we going to get serious about mental illness and access to healthcare in this country? Access to education? Improving our social safety net?

Because those are the most effective ways to prevent most of these horrible acts the soonest.

Or are we just going to cheapen their memories by using them as an excuse to play politics? To argue Republican vs Democrat? Your team vs their team. Same old, same old...
 
Other advanced countries have mental illness, domestic violence, isolation due to Covid. They have murder. But these mass shootings are almost entirely American. The actual percentage of Americans owning guns has declined but number of guns skyrocketed as paranoid people acquire arsenals.

Other advanced countries also have better access to healthcare, education, and social safety net than we do...

So people with mental disorders and antisocial or violent tendencies are more likely to be found and treated.

Further evidence suggested that even the most “mentally healthy” perpetrators could be recoded as having signs of mental illness or suicidality, or were clear outliers, or may not qualify as public mass shooters. The most lethal perpetrators exhibited signs of mental illness or suicidal intent (or both) in all cases. When people engage in concerning behaviors that suggest a mass shooting risk, their mental health should be carefully assessed alongside other warning signs.

The biggest problem with the NRA has been encouraging the "gun nut", in your face, need a gun to be masculine BS.

The NRA is supposed to be focused on gun safety and education...

First thing I had to do when I bought my truck was remove the sticker of an AR with the word "Oregunian" on the rear window. Just tacky and in poor taste.

Guns are tools which demand respect and level headed focus.

Guns are not an extention of your penis, and should not be treated as such.
 
A person can't go buy a half gallon of vodka and drink themselves to death at 18, but they can go buy an AR-15 and shoot up a school. Can we raise the age restrictions on weapons? Buffalo and Uvalde were done by kids. Their brains aren't even close to developed. If you want to shoot a gun, go into the military. If the asvab rejects you, you have to wait until your 25. Idk. I'm at such a loss this morning I just want to find a solution.. Something has to be done!!
