Thread on Damian Lillard back injury: He says he is hopeful to return Saturday at Cleveland. "I would be doing a disservice to my health if I just went out and played. It will stick around. Where we are now, the best thing is to get healthy, then we make our push," he said.
Lillard said the origin of the injury dates to Nov. 12 at Sacramento. When he flew home, he had "discomfort" in his plane seat. The next night, he received treatment before game with Toronto, but he said back was tight whole game.
Two days later, when team flew to San Antonio they had practice after they landed, and Lillard said he could never get loose during the entire practice. Then, before the Spurs game he knew his back was officially a problem. "I was warming up and I remember I was just real slow.''
Warming up before Spurs game he couldn't bend knees and get lift with his shot. As the team went through lay-up line, Lillard said he had a heat wrap/vibration vest under his jersey. "Then in the game I was limited. I couldn't move well. But it wasn't in my mind to sit."
He played 40 minutes at San Antonio and 35 the next night in Houston. "In Houston, I was still real tight. I just knew I wasn't comfortable, or where I wanted to be.'' Says he has been getting massage, acupuncture, stretching. "I even did an Epsom salt bath,'' Lillard said.
