yeah...Trent may be earning a huge raise that Portland can't afford

I believe they can re-sign him and afford him, right?

I thought that was the reason they stayed below a certain cap threshold this year, and that was to avoid being a repeat offender, giving them the option to match Trent next year and not have such a huge tax offender bill?

Good 2nd quarter effort. Let's see if Portland can come out strong in the 3rd

Out score 32-19 the 2nd unit did very good job. 17 points from the bench and 11 assist. But we have to do better on the defense boards we gave up 8 offense boards but overall good 2nd quarter.

Every year it seems Portland has one quarter that they always come out flat on. 2nd quarter or 3rd quarter seem to be the quarter they suck in (tho this year, it seems to be 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters..).

I'm full on tank mode now. Forget the playoffs, aim for a high lotto pick. The team deserves one for all their bad luck.

If they trade Nurk & CJ they could afford him. He's made for todays game, inside out, post up, decent D, and moves well without the ball. I say we trade Nurk & CJ for another forward/center.

Isn't he a RFA?

Whether or not the WANT to pay him that much is a different story, but I don't think they have to worry about what they can or cannot afford.

the repeater tax kicks in after 3 of 4 seasons are in the tax. So, if Portland is over the tax next season because of signing Trent, they'd have to stay under the tax for the next 2 seasons.

say some team offers Trent a starting salary of 23-24M. Portland would be over 112M with just 5 players (Dame-CJ-Trent-RoCo-Nurkic. If Jones and Hood both opt-in, Portland is over the tax line with 7 players (assuming the cap doesn't go up next year). And they'd be 8M over the line with 10 players and still need to add at least 4. And Zach wouldn't have counted yet

it's not just that Portland would be over the tax line, it's that they'd be way over the line. And the next season they'd be at 105M for just Dame-CJ-Trent

I don't see how it's sustainable. And I am pretty sure that Jody Allen and the Vulcans don't have the stomach for paying tax that PA did. Plus, if she is thinking about selling the team, she won't want to saddle the team with a major tax problem

Well, nevermind then.

You want a championship you have to pay for it
