Maybe a combination of both, but it wasn't a poster here who was having a day to introduce Nas and talked about Simons being the most talented guy he's ever drafted. Then spoke about it and had team media people talking about Simons all summer. It was the team that didn't sign anyone else as a backup guard. They built him up all summer as the "next guy who will take Dame's mantle someday", and he might but never understood why they kept talking about it because any struggle at all and you knew fans would start to question it.
So now he sucks and you are mad at Olshey? Or are we gonna give the kid a little more time to mature?

Because he hasn't lived up to at all the expectations the organization built up for him. :dunno:
Doesn't mean he wont be good, because he still can be.
What expectations did the organization build up for him? Did they specifically state expected statistics? I'm actually not all discouraged by his performance and have just as much expectation that he's going to develop into an elite scorer. He's not given the rope that C.J. and Dame are given and I have little doubt he would put up a lot points if given the green light as they are. It's not going to be hard for him to achieve the efficiency given the same usage rate as C.J. He's a way better athlete and his handles are going to get better and they are already good. It's simply a matter of him being given experience and that's what this season is supposed to be about. I think people expecting a lot are fucking idiots given that he's 20.

Early on when Ant shot the ball I expected it to go in...now I'm surprised when it does...that's what I see on the court....he's even shooting 3s two nights in a row while out of bounds...he's getting owned by Buddy Heild...he tries, the game just hasn't slowed down enough for him but in my view....look at his body language and his eyes....he's frustrated and not confident..nobody wants him to snap out of it more than Blazer fans....If Tolliver played like that he'd get trashed all over the boards
Well first off Buddy Heild is a damn good player. So there is that.

Tolliver is in his 12th season and is 34 years old. Simons is 20 and has played meaningful minutes in 22 games total in his life. There should be different expectations.

Just because Olshey hyped him all summer I don't get why people thought that meant Simons would be great and didn't need to still develop.
Wait a minute here. You blasted me for saying essentially those exact words during the summer?????

duh....but the reaction to a slump or a mistake are still the same from the fans...hence my post

Huh? I've been pretty consistent saying that Simons needs minutes to grow good or bad.

Id agree he needs minutes, but I feel like if Olshey had shut up, the perception of Simons would be much more patient.
He had some decent games early in the season too which didn't help.

Saying someone has the most talent he's ever drafted still doesn't make Simons ready to take over.

I get that, but why talk about it? Saying he’s more talented than Dame is, and all that they did over the summer. Its was inviting a if he doesnt look like a star its a dissapointment.

I don't think many people actually thought that. Definitely no one thought he didn't still need to develop. But if he really is the most talented player Olshey has ever drafted, he should be doing better than this already, or at least showing more signs of improvement. I don't think it's unreasonable to be slightly disappointed so far.

Why are people talking so much trash about Simons? Last night he went for 11 pts and 6 assists. No, he hasn't been great, but he hasn't been terrible either. Also, his defense isn't nearly as bad as people are stating.
Tonight defense been bad.

Remember these Kings are sans Fox, Bagley and Bogdanovic...

He's the first high schooler drafted in how long? Not unreasonable but imo it's good he's had the opportunity to even struggle in live action.

And his teammates much better at finding him.

He's putting himself in better position instead of slipping every screen. Starting to do what made every other center successful here. Set screens, roll hard, hit the offensive glass, protect the rim even if he's not getting blocks. He is starting to learn where he's gonna get his touches in the offense and it's made him so much better.

I dunno if he's back in Portland next season, but I will say Dame is turned an empty stat guy back into a quality starting center.

There are tons of talented players in the NBA that never amount to being a star. Saying someone is talented means they have the ability to be a star not that he'll for sure be one 22 meaningful games into his career.

Why would they extend CJ if they thought Simons would be a star this season?

Hood needs to be getting more touches than Ant for now ...Ant shoots way more than Rodney

The thing is he’s 20 now... I know he’s super young and has a lot of time in his career to grow and I hope he does, but you look at the list of 21 and under guys in the NBA theres a lot of really talented guys. Right now Im not sure if Simons is even top 15-20 in that list. Definitely not an indictment on who he will be someday, but we’ll see.
