Sorry - You are wrong here....

Woj reported that Hood was coming back to Portland. The timestamp on that tweet says 6/30/19 @ 3:40pm

There wasn't any information about Whiteside being traded to Portland until Woj tweeted it on 7/1/19 @ 9:30am

What you quoted from me doesn't mention Hood. Maybe you're referring to earlier, when after I said that Hood was Olshey's top target for the off-season, KingSpeed said that Bazemore, not Hood, was the top priority. I then said that Bazemore was just insurance against Hood not re-signing.

Anyway, the issue being discussed is how Olshey lost Kanter. As Woj said, Olshey re-signed Hood June 30 afternoon. The next morning, Olshey's eyes were on Whiteside, who he thought was better than Kanter, had no time to soft-pedal it to Kanter, so Kanter split. Olshey misevaluated the talent of Whiteside vs. Kanter.

(If you look up the transactions, the official dates are July 6, which tells you nothing.)

Whatever dates we come up with, doesn't change the boldfaced sentence.

Hood is immaterial to my point.

Portland could only sign 1 of the two FA. It was either Hood OR Kanter.
Olshey offered the contract to Kanter on 6/30/19. Only after he capitulated, did Olshey offer the contract to Hood. ALL of this happened BEFORE there was any public rumor of a Whiteside trade.

I have plenty of issues with Olshey's talent evaluation skills. But he did not make the judgement between Whiteside and Kanter.

Kanter did not commit, so Olshey moved onto what he deemed as his next best alternative. This is exactly what Olshey should have done in the situation.

that's a contradiction because he reached out to Kanter first....Whiteside was plan B.....just bringing some common sense to the thread

Oh boy, now we can spend a page arguing over what "reach out" means. Since Kanter was already a Blazer, obviously Olshey was "communicating" to Kanter for awhile, if that's what you mean.

But in the 45 or 6 minutes that mattered, there was no reaching out. So Kanter took another offer, saying that Olshey's inattentive rush made him feel "uncomfortable."

You're saying that the 45 or 6 minutes happened June 30, not July 1. I've never read that before. The stories from Lillard (45 minutes) and Kanter (6 minutes) were treated as happening the morning of July 1, but you have a new hypothesis, that the story occurred before that. Can you find such an account dating it June 30? Did Kanter, Lillard, or anyone else give a date?

If you can find one, it might change the timing about Olshey underrating Kanter. But not my opinion that Olshey is bad at evaluating frontline talent, and didn't try hard on Kanter.

Also, if you find such a source, you will need to reconcile this new timing with Kanter's quote about feeling rushed.

Kanter told Neil he wanted to talk to his brother first....Neil pressured him that he was on the clock....Enes didn't want to decide that quick...Enes made his choice...nothin' to do with Neil not giving him a call and first dibs...Enes said 6 minutes...Dame said it was about 45 minutes....whatever...he's back and playing better than he did in Boston...just a hiccup! Enes looks pretty damned happy here....that's enough...Dame seems happy..that's even better...

Kanter told Neil he wanted to talk to his brother first.

Source? (I looked it up and yes, he has a 6-9 brother who played in college.) Need a source before I believe it. It won't change either side of the argument.

I remember it from an interview he did after the fact...I'm your source dude!

No, we traded for Bazemore in case we signed Kanter instead of Hood. We couldn’t get Kanter so we signed Hood and traded for Whiteside. The 45 minute deadline was in place because Miami said now or never. Kanter was 1st choice but he said no.

Source? Woj reported the Whiteside trade an hour or two from when he reported Kanter leaving. That's what I relied upon. Now we have a new hypothesis, that they were a day apart.

. Once Kanter said no, we traded for Whiteside.

In my prior post, I linked to the actual tweets from Woj when everything went down. They are all time stamped. It's not that hard to do a little research....

Kanter's quote about being rushed was because Portland didn't want to loose out on BOTH Kanter & Hood. They gave Kanter the first opportunity with a time limit. He capitulated, so Olshey moved on.
