If CJ is back and even in limited minutes can have the kind of impact that some in here think he will, even though we got beat down last time we played Phoenix, we could make this game really competitive. I know Stotts won't likely do this but if CJ only played the minutes off of the bench that Dame didn't, that would be a huge shot in the arm without ever having the disadvantages we get when the two play together. I've seen CJ shooting from a sitting position since the injury, working on his handle and off of one leg shooting too. Last night I saw him on the bench in a suit and he looks like he's in better shape (at least thinner) than when he started training camp. Hell, I think he'll have more days of practice between the time he got cleared until he played than he did in camp before the first preseason game.

The funny thing is, with the way Gary has been shooting and (fuck the numbers) competing on the defensive end. I don't think getting CJ back will have as big of an impact on the starting unit as getting Nurk back will, whenever that happens. I know he won't get as many boards as Enes but if he comes in with a Beast mindset ready to finish strong on offense, we have two really hard working forwards that are capable of getting us a lot of second chances on offense and Nurk occupies more attention from opposing teams than Enes does on both ends.

With overall rotation and given what most think, CJ's comeback will make a huge impact and I'm sure the consensus is that it will be bigger than Nurk's (I know that the minutes he takes from Ant when Dame sits will be a lot immeasurably more productive). I just think what Nurk does will make Dame's life easier and having Kanter off the bench will make our rotation so so so much better.

This second half of the season is incredibly exciting even if it is a tough schedule. If we're healthy, this is the team that Olshey and Stotts wanted. With the way RoCo, DJ and Enes have played any mention of Zach's absence is overblown, if everyone outside of Zach can stay healthy enough to play. We should be able to beat any team in a seven game, if Olshey is right. I hope he is and we make the most serious run at a championship since 1999 when we were for all intents and purposes one Lakers loss away from blowing the doors off of the Pacers and winning it all. Go Blazers!!! Let's get this thing done in the second half and shut me up about getting rid of Olshey, Stotts and CJ.
First of all, you’re thinking of 2000. In 1999, we got swept by Spurs. Second of all, CJ is better than Trent at everything. I don’t understand why people that think CJ is selfish would rather have Trent. Trent never passes! He only thinks shoot and he’s not as good at it as CJ. Rebounding, shooting percentages, passing, ball handling, defense— CJ is better at all of this. So not only are we getting a HUGE upgrade at starting SG, we are sending Trent to the second unit where he will strengthen our bench, the role he is most suited for. Next season, some idiot team will give him $80 million and they will be sorely disappointed.

Nurk said yesterday that if he's not back by after all-star break, it will be just a few days after all-star break.

So his return seems imminent.

Also, what the hell is going on with Harry? He's been out for weeks with a calf strain and we've heard zero updates.
Nurk said days “or within a week or two.”

Here’s a question for y’all: if you’re the Suns GM and Minnesota offers you Towns for Ayton, do you make the deal?

Keep living the dream. I bet Olshey and Stotts wish every Blazers fan was just like you.

CJ is the second best basketball player on this team, I don't think that is debatable. I just hope we are healthy so we can see what this roster can do together vs what we've done without CJ and Nurk.

For the record I don't put my trust in anyone for my opinions. I try to read everything I can, listen to as many experts (in this case former and current players, coaches and execs) as possible and observe (in this case that means watching the games). That's how I form my opinions.

Yes

I would not. I think Ayton will be better and in the long run will be a big part of that team. I know his numbers are down this year but i think that is more due to the type of team game they are playing this year and personnel around him.

These guys have won 13 of last 15 and blowing opponents out. They if healthy are as good as Utah now, imo and a lot more dangerous.

They will not blow the Blazers out! The Blazers have not just one but TWO Dunk Contest Winners. They can't guard us!

They may not be able to guard our high flyers going to the rim....but they don't have to. Our lobs to the most athletic players on the court are so poor, that they have little chance of taking advantage of their rarified air.

Looks like we debut our "Earned" jerseys tonight.

Too bad the Blazers don't have a black & white court design. I think these jerseys would look better with a matching court.

I honestly hope we see Dame pull up from half court at least twice in this game. If the guy can start hitting at 50% from out there when left alone, it will stretch opposing defenses in a ridiculous way. Imagine if a team had the luxury of their half court sets taking up literally half of the court instead of just a third of the court.

Jeff Van Gundy crazy rule change: Put two more lines on the floor parallel with the half court line but like five feet on either side of it and make those the knew lines for back court violations, giving teams another five feet to operate their offenses in.

i think the league has reached its max threshold for rules that support the offense. scoring has become so easy nowadays. need to reel a bit that back the other way now-- not to the levels of the 90s or early 00s obviously, but things like bringing back some semblance of handchecking, or doing away with Trae Young fouls, etc could help with the balance.

like this shit needs to go

If I was an opposing team Id let dame take as many 40 footers he wants.

I think they should let the game get more physical again but that doesn't mean they can't stretch the court a little. Yeah there should be hand checking. That doesn't solve the fact that if you are hand checking or on someone's hip and they stop on a dime and go up for a shot, that's going to be a foul. If someone is driving to the hole and you're chasing them and they put on the breaks causing you to run them over, that's going to be a foul. The fact is, more contact should be allowed especially when trying to get position. More flopping fines and less calls for flopping should happen. Definitely less fouls should be considered flagrant. So I'm with all of that. Let the defenders play D but make the game more exciting by stretching the court.

make them shooting zones. If you sink a shot from that 5' zone on your side of the court, it's 4 points. If you sink a shot from behind mid-court it's 6 points

also, strobe lights

In 30 years:

"It's 92-82 but the other team has a shot to win with the 70 foot under hand bank shot for 11. .9 on the clock."

Does this really mean Harry is on the shelf bc of trade considerations? Seems like I really never saw anything bad during a game. Perhaps practice injury?

Yes that was sweet. Dame gave Steph a the first chance to close out the All Star game from deep. Steph wussed out, took a 3 from Dame’s midrange and missed. Then Dame showed him how it’s done with a real Logo shot! Nice of Steph to pre-celebrate though. Classic Dame.
