Postgame Notes – March 21, 2021
Dallas 132, Portland 92
Game No. 42, Home Game No. 22

TEAM
• With nine three-pointers made, Portland’s streak of consecutive games with 10-plus three-pointers ended at 54. It is the third-longest streak in NBA history, one game shy of second-place (Houston, 55).
• The Trail Blazers recorded seven turnovers to the Mavericks 11. It was the 15th time Portland has committed single-digit turnovers this season, tied for the most such games in the NBA (SAS).
• Portland’s reserves outscored the Dallas bench, 42-41. Six of Portland’s nine three-pointers came from the bench.
• Portland outrebounded Dallas on the offensive glass, 9-8, but the Mavericks obtained a 15-11 advantage in second-chance points.

PLAYER
• Damian Lillard led Portland with 19 points (7-16 FG, 5-5 FT), one rebound, four assists and one steal in 30 minutes.
• Gary Trent Jr. had 16 points (6-13 FG, 3-7 3-PT, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist and two steals in 22 minutes off the bench.
• CJ McCollum scored 13 points (6-15 FG, 1-1 FT), to go with two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
• Nassir Little had 14 points (4-9 FG, 2-5 3-PT, 4-5 FT), two rebounds and one assist in 21 minutes off the bench. It was the third-highest scoring game of his career.
• Robert Covington recorded six points (2-4 3-PT), six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block.
• Derrick Jones Jr. finished with eight points on 3-of-4 shooting (1-2 3-PT, 1-2 FT), three rebounds, one steal and one block.
• Enes Kanter had four points (2-3 FG), six boards and two assists over 16 minutes.
• Luka Doncic led Dallas with 37 points (13-19 FG, 8-9 3-PT, 3-6 FT), seven rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes. His eight made three-pointers tied a career-high, which was set previously against Portland (Jan. 17, 2020).
• Josh Richardson added 21 points (8-11 FG, 2-4 3-PT, 3-3 FT), three rebounds and four assists. It was his fifth game scoring 20+ this season.
• Dorian Finney-Smith finished with 13 points (4-8 FG, 3-6 3-PT, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and two assists. His 13 points were one shy of his season-high (14, three times including against Portland on Feb. 14).

Here's another key stat:

Dallas went on a 19-0 run at the start of the 3rd quarter. Game over after that.

people actually trying to blame tonight on anything other than our defense have wool over their eyes.
Excuse me?
Watching the game much different than many.
Blazers went completely cold from about 8 mins left in the second quarter. They lead after the first quarter. When they got to about 44 points they pretty much couldn't score. Went into half with 54 and didn't score for the first 4 minutes of the third.
They ended the 3rd quarter with 15 points. That was not because of defense.

ok then....shit it is!

how well was Dame moving?
Dame never really looks injured but his shot clearly was not falling. he did get a huge dunk but even that ended up on the floor without a call for a foul.

lol wut, you don't understand the game.

we gave up 132 points. and a guy hit 8 threes from essentially one spot on the floor and we didn't bother changing the coverage once.

how does a coach just let that happen with no adjustments

A 19 0 run is inexcusable. In-ex-cus-a-ble.

No not really but that's the way you saw it so okay. I have come to accept that some people watch games different. Look at different things. Luka hit 8 threes yes and 4 of them were from the top of the arc but two of those were over 30 ft and then 4 other threes were scattered around the court.
Here is the shot chart.
https://www.espn.com.au/nba/game?gameId=401307441
Lillard 0-7
CJ 0-5
Melo 0-4
Hood 0-2
That is 0-18 from four from players that they need to make shots.
Blazers went stone cold from the 7:23 mark of the second quarter. They lead 44-42
They didn't score again until it was 51 -44 Mavs when Melo drove to the basket.
Down 11 points at half they came out and went scoreless for 6 mins of the third quarter. 84-56 Mavericks
GAME OVER!

Try another avenue when you respond.
Telling someone who has Played, Watched, and Studied the game for 45+ years that they "Don't understand the game" will never end well.

They just don't care. Half of this forum doesn't mind first round exit.

Not picking on you because this gets brought up on a semi-regular basis, but I don't get the point.

If everyone on this board was dropping F-Bombs 20 times per game at Stotts/Olshey (like some do), it wouldn't make an ounce of difference on the outcome. If some people aren't outraged this isn't an NBA title contender, who cares?

And after 45 years you can't spot a imposter coach and team that is going nowhere.

Watch the game, learn basketball, you're embarrassing yourself, I bet you didn't play JC ball, I could beat you 1 on 1.

I think I covered the rest for you!

Actually i spotted what i expected from the team months ago. I predicted 42 wins in the prediction thread. What did you spot? Some people on here have then at 50+ wins this season.
Personally i expected a tough game today. I even said that in this thread before this game.
I guess 45 years has a way of proving time and again you know what you are talking about?

This is another head scratcher to me.

We've got people here who predicted us to win like 43-45 games with the assumption we would have CJ, Nurk, and Collins (back in January). Some of these people have thought Stotts is worthless for years.

Yet, we've been missing those 3 for the majority of the season, we're on pace to win 43 games, and the daily comments reflect a team winning half the games they should.

I spotted that Stotts needs to go good few years ago. Instead, Olshey gave him new contract. It is strange, bc GM should recognize things.
I'll be 45 next year. Maybe then we can start talkin on similar level;)

I just think having the real coach could do nice things for this team.

Its funny how taking shitty shots and missing them because they're shitty shots is simply portrayed as "going cold" as if that has nothing to do with us taking shitty shots.

There you go saying that people should evaluate our coaching and style of play ONLY based off of what espn.com/nba/standings says.

You're also saying what were on pace for without taking into account the quality of opponents weve played.

This point has also been made a million times: We can overcome our shitty style of play in the regular season due to a talented and deep roster, but itll likely cause our downfall in the playoffs. I care more about a win in May than I do a win in March.

Guys... all it comes down to is that they made their shots and we didn't make ours. Just look at the numbers it's as plain as day. It doesn't matter how they set their shots up and we didn't. It doesn't matter that they made an effort to make our shots difficult that was far more than the effort we made to impede their shooting. It just comes down to the fact that their shots were falling and ours were not.

Who are you guys mocking here? Generally curious.

Cant be me because I dont talk like that and I'm pretty respectful towards you two... But I'm struggling to think of who you guys are trying to mock here.
