I said "great" he said "smart". Same idea. Hurd argued it was smart to challenge on the basis of timeouts, then later argued against that logic saying that in spite of the timeout, you still want to hang onto your challenge. He was right the second time.

"Which is a smart challenge..."
You are correct. If Stotts wanted to use a time out before it expired, he could just take the timeout rather than burning his challenge to take the timeout he could have simply taken. I couldn't believe my ears when Hurd said that.

Two friends go out on the town one night, one meets a girl and they laugh and have fun and maybe even do the deed but when he wakes up she’s gone. The other went out and met no one and went home alone and woke up alone. Both are alone in the morning so that’s the same end result. ITS ABOUT THE JOURNEY! Life is short. Enjoy the wins, hope for the best and always bring the girl home with you. Or guy. Or both, for that matter.
So you're a prononent of being satisfied with one-night stands instead of pursuing something more serious?

To each his own, I guess.

They think that Powell and Nurk with their energy would magically change our Defense. This is no joke, the hope is that with the same schemes etc two players that are good on D, but no defensive geniuses or all nba defenders would just come in and change everything. This shows that the coaching stuff is not capable to change things by itself. Next thing now if Powell, Nurk doesn't work will be Zach cleared to play in playoffs and Olshey, Stotts will say how now this will change our defense.

Unfortunately we saw same issues today and the Raptors scored 117 points without their starting pointguard playing. I don't see how we can win a series against teams like Utah, Phoenix, Denver, Lakers or Clippers if we don't dramatically improve in that area. Defense is even more important during playoffs and it's not that you can turn on some switch just on time for that. And we will be more tired when we get there anyway because our D doesn't let us get some blowout wins and needed rest.

At least Powell shows he is indeed better than Trent and Hood, so we got better. Probably still not enough to avoid a 1st round exit.

Since we got Powell and he is better defender than CJ, we could trade CJ for some forward or leave DJJ on the floor and fire CJ from the bench. Instead Stotts gonna do same thing again and again and simply just don't care about D, cos he got another 3point shooter that will solve the problems.
Since our problem is D, not O, this is absolutely stupid.

Extending on your analogy, for the lucky dude or girl or person, it can eventually get old. Not necessarily for everyone, but for some (maybe a lot?), they yearn for something more meaningful. Maybe they're older? Experienced just about everything dating can offer, except for just once, they'd like something that lasts. It doesn't have to last forever. Or even for consecutive years. But special enough it will be permanently etched in the halls of dating or a trophy somewhere and be remembered.

I lean more cynic myself with the organization, but I'm encouraged with how they're playing of late, especially since acquiring Powell and Nurk returning. The defense looks better, actually getting turnovers and challenging shots. CJ and Dame are probably playing the best ball of their careers outside of those occasional in-the-zone games they get. I'm liking this two game version of Nurk better than the earlier year version, and maybe he's more effective with less minutes. It doesn't feel like we have to feed him to keep him engaged. It's not necessary anyway, because the ball movement has been better with less hero ball from Dame and Lillard.

It's just 2-3 games against sub 500 teams, granted, but those teams played better and harder than their record would indicate. Some feel our past playoff success was fools gold, and not necessarily indicative the team has championship potential. I tend to agree, but to me, on paper this current roster looks the most balanced team. If Dame and CJ can find ways to duplicate past playoff performances, they "should" have better contributing help this go-around. As a jaded fan, I just want a little hope and give it a week or two, some convincing wins against the Bucks, Clippers, or Utah, maybe there will be reason for hope. On the bright side, I'm not all that intimidated by the competition this year. IMO, there are no super alphas guaranteed to get the girl or guy or person.

What an amazing performance by CJ. I still don't love it that Dame and him have to take turns but as far as an individual game... wow. He played excellent defense and then had a little bit of CJ Time there at the end. Hats off to the guy.

https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=401307493<<<<<:) I want to thank the refs for allowing defense to be a factor without their touch fouls. Covington was awesome in this game.. Nurk looked like a sharp dressed man. CJ is landing on one leg and that makes me cringe. Looked like Hood was determined last night.

Or they could lose these game and be the Celtics, Raptors, Spurs, and so on. I wonder if those teams would rather win these shitty games or lose them. The Celtics have two all stars, Kemba, and a solid bench and Brad Stevens. And they are .500. IN THE EASTERN CONFERENCE
FTFY

I feel like there's a large contingent of fans who see the massive cliff that we're heading towards so every time we squeak out a win against a weak opponent we're thinking "that's great but when we run out of weak opponents to squeak by, it's going to be the end of the road." But then you have these other fans that are just happy that we're still driving, even though the road is rapidly running out ahead of us.
So you are saying they will make the playoffs and eventually lose to a better team in a 7 game series.
The probability of this happening is extremely high and yes i agree a large contingent of fans see this.

Agree. In a world full of evil, to say the person you hate mist is a basketball coach?
There is evil in the world i agree but please see the good parts. The world (In my eyes) is not full of evil or evil people. Most are good and want to be good. My father always said that to me and i try to live by it.

Of course there is much good in the world. My point was a poster saying he hated Stotts more than anyone in the world; even if you think Stotts is a terrible coach, he is a basketball coach, not an axe murderer or baby raper.

Yes, challenges should be based on how many points are at stake, who will get possession of the ball, and the likelihood that it will succeed. In this case up to 3 points were at stake, but it was clearly a foul so it wasn't gonna succeed. Bad challenge. But maybe Stotts didn't have time to see the foul. Timeout situation has almost no bearing.

Looking at the box score; all nine players had a decent game (except Melo), with Covington having an outstanding game with 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 4 blocks and 3 for 8 from three. Lillard not a good shooting night but had 11 assists.

Covington looked great. McCollum was there when you needed him. Aside from a couple of bombs I hardly noticed Lillard. The Raptors, especially Siakam, relentlessly attacked Kanter in the paint, which seemed to be a game plan. Nurk was a better deterrant. Powell didn't have a whole lot to do but with two volume shooting guards in the lineup I think he'll need to find his spots. Impressed with Jones but him and Covington both were overaggressive trying to block three point shots, IIRC. Need to settle them down in late game situations. Should come with experience. Good result, Raps don't need to be winning any more games.

But Melo can brick 10 shots in a row and play no defense without getting pulled.

Melo is not coming off an injury. Nurk is on a minutes restriction. Do you really want to keep playing a guy who looked tired and risk him getting injured again? Nurk missed a shot at the rim, then let a guard blow past him in the lane, and then made a bad foul on the guy. He was not exactly protecting the rim. He will get there, but I find no fault for Terry pulling him at that time.

What they have done given the injuries has been pretty remarkable. At the same time, there is the reality of 'we have seen this before, quite a weak schedule so far, and what has happened in the Playoffs more often than not....being swept or gentlemen's swept out of the Playoffs and not really being close to competing.

Of course as a fan, I'm glad they are winning games but to be a Polyanna and think that HOW they are playing when they are squeaking by bottom feeder teams who are even more depleted or decimated than we are, doesn't raise some concerns would seem to be quite unrealistic.

I hope they win. I hope they get better. I hope they get to a place where they can compete. I hope with their main talent that is so untradable, we will be better than bottom 1 or 2 in defense far too often.

Unreasonable?

I don't want to speak for him on this matter, but I think his point was you can still have fun along the way until you find the perfect fit....... I know I did.
I'm still looking for a 70% fit, and I'm running out of time.....

I hear ya but the reality is only a few teams every year are realistically in the hunt, so to compete against say 26 other teams every year to get to the finals is really an uphill battle and the planets better line up, for you attract super stars.
10 teams of 30 have won it all in the last 4o years. Personally because much is driven by marketing & PR if Im Jody or Bert, I hire EX NBA stars as GM and Coach as a way to0 possibly entice Big Time FA's to come here. Someone to promote the merits of PTown. Its a step below whats happening now with super stars coupling up and promoting a team or city.
