So is Bagley, Luka Doncic, Wendell Carter Jr...
Lets not act like he’s the youngest player in the history of the NBA or anything.

Im not saying dont give him time to learn and figure it out. His advanced stats are about as bad as Ive seen. To be fair he has hardly touched the floor in meaningful minutes so the sample size is small. Would just really like to see him come in, in one of these blows outs and just have a nice 2-3 minute stretch.

Anyways good win, nice to get a w after the road trip.

Those guys played in college and Doncic has been a pro for years. Simons is coming from IMG which is pretty much high school.

One difference between Simons and those other players is they were drafted in the top ten by shitty teams that needed them to play right away, and Simons was drafted later by a playoff team. Simons was drafted more on potential and less on ability to contribute right away. Those other players should play more. Simons is also getting to learn behind Dame and CJ.

His stats are going to be bad because whenever he's in they are trying to get him to score and he's forcing it a lot of times. But you can tell the entire team is excited to see him get on the floor to see what he can do. They see him in practice every day and know what he's capable of. He may never develop and I could be totally wrong, but something about him gives me a good feeling. And I wasn't wild about him at the time of the pick.

He chose to not go to college and go to the NBA, not saying he needs to come out and look like Kobe or some other HoFer, just seems odd to me how bad he’s looked. Maybe he’ll figure it out, again Im not saying give up on him. Other 19 year olds have done it, other guys have made that jump from HS too.

I hope he figures it out, again I know you have to give guys some times and he hasnt played significant minutes.

Having fun with stats.

Nurk is the first Blazer since Bill Walton in 1975 to have 10+ pts, 10+ reb, 10+ ast, and 5+ blocks.

That contract Olshey signed him to last summer is looking pretty nice right now!

I hope you’re feelings about him are more accurate than mine. I hope he ends up being good, and that it happens before his rookie contract is up.

Kobe play more then Simons but he had his problems too at his age.

I feel like your to impatient with players' development. Remember how bad Layman looked until this year?

So in 3 straight possessions in the third, Jake scored on a beautiful post up, a mid range jumper, and a 3. Add the dunks and a nice finger roll while attacking the basket and you can see why people get excited about him. Oh and he blocked a shot and was athletic enough to come down and then jump into the stands trying to save it. He teases us with hope......... as we desperately need a SF who can do it all.

He's played less than 60 minutes of garbage time basketball. But even in that little time we've seen a lot of positive things.

Very fast w/ the ball, athletic, wiry strong, plays at his own pace, fluid w/ a quick release off the dribble, quick feet defensively....

He's raw experience wise, and we see that show up in a lot of areas, but its not hard to see his combination of athleticism and skill turning into something very interesting.

I feel like Im usually exactly the opposite I said all summer I wasnt really ready to make a decision on Zach because I hadnt seen enough. I said I saw some flashes but not a ton of consistency and people acted like I hated Zach because I wasnt ready to say he was good.
Its just with Simons I havent really seen any flashes in a game that made me think oh ok he can do that. Im not making a judgement on him being bad, Im asking the question, mostly because in the few games he’s played Ive never once had a moment watching him where he flashed anything that made me think oh thats “special” in the NBA sense.

I guess we’ll see. :dunno:

We tend to say that about every rookie we have ever had who only plays in garbage time.
Isnt a lot of that because if they are really good they’ll force there way into the rotation? To Zachs Credit he was good enough on defense he kind of forced his way in to get minutes last year. Guess we’ll find out in the next few years if he pans out or not.

I’ve learned to not take anything away from garbage time, good or bad. There’s no pressure, or real plays being called. It’s pretty much pick up basketball. Who cares

Agreed. It is a completely worthless sample of work.
