Predict who's getting the 8th seed in the West (if not the Blazers)

The Pels have been tough even without Zion. I actually think Carmelo is a good matchup to put a body on him but it wouldn't be easy anyway, Lonzo Ball has been balling Ingram been balling, Jrue always gives us trouble and they have Jackson Hayes who I really like off the bench.
We match up well but it'll be a battle.
Go Blazers

Also Spurs with a brutal Denver to OKC B2B.
Of course the Blazers follow suit with their own B2B tomorrow in Memphis.
One interesting note. Yes the Spurs have a "Rodeo trip" this year but the thing about it is the All Star break is smack dab in the middle (pretty much every year). So they come back from the break and play two road games. This year is just a tough 6 game road trip which they have lost every game so far. with any luck they go 0-6.
How do you consider the "Rodeo Trip" any worse than what the Blazers are in the middle of? 9 games in a row with travel Home and away, including 2 B2B's starting Jan 29th and lasting 15 days? The Blazers have gone 5-2 in that stretch so far. Every team except the Spurs they have played have had a winning record.

There needs to be a desperation and intensity this game like we haven't had before. If we win tonight, it would put us nearly 4 games ahead of NO. A loss would bring them within a game of us in the loss column while also pushing us away from Memphis.

I know Dame knows how massive this game is. Hope the others do as well. This is where having Ariza and Melo helps.

I like it when you’re positive.

For 25%+ of the salary cap, I want him to do better than having a good game "1/3 of the time".

Just me being unreasonable though, I'm sure.

I’m as peeved as anyone, but I think the real decision point with CJ will be in two years. Both Zach and Gary will be up for extensions at that point. They will probably combined make as much as CJ. There will be little to no flexibility if CJ stays on the roster.

IMO there will be no decision point with CJ as long as Olshey is the GM. That decision was made in 2013

I wonder why they called Moses up. Pretty sure they’re not practicing until after the break. And he’s definitely not gonna play. So what’s the point? Was it a reward for the first half of the season or something?

Texas Legends don't have a game until the 19th...might as well be around the team.

I think it's an opportunity to have him work with the Portland coaching staff, without it counting against the '45 day' limit for 2-way contracts (since the NBA is officially on break).

doesn't the 45 day limit only count against days a player is on the active roster?

No. The CBA states 'he can spend up to 45 days with his affiliate NBA team'.

Some interesting notes:
A Two-Way player is signed using Exhibit 1B of the Uniform Player Contract. A Two-Way contract can be for one or two seasons. The player’s NBA salary is the rookie minimum salary (see question number 22), pro-rated per day, for each day he is with the NBA team (which includes days on the Active List for an NBA game, or days he engages in practice, drills, conditioning, workouts or travel with the NBA team). The player receives the Two-Way salary for each day he is not credited with an NBA day of service, according to the Two-Way scale:

A Two-Way player is not included in his team’s Team Salary (see question number 13), so teams don’t need cap room or an exception to sign, acquire or convert (see question number 83) a Two-Way contract. A player is not credited for a day of NBA service during training camp or the playoffs, or on days he is traveling between his NBA and G-League teams.

The following rules also apply to Two-Way contracts:
  • If a Two-Way player is signed after the NBA season starts, the 45 day maximum on the NBA roster is pro-rated downward.
  • Days outside the G-League season don't count toward the 45 day maximum on the NBA roster.
  • If a player is a second-round pick, his team submits a required tender (retaining its draft rights to the player), the player signs his required tender, and the team subsequently waives the player, then that team is the only team that can sign or convert (see question number 83) that player to a Two-Way contract in that season.
  • After renouncing a free agent, a team can still sign him to a Two-Way contract.
  • Regular G-League travel and assignment rules (reporting, relocation, meal expenses, etc.), apply to Two-Way players while with their G-League team and when traded.
So the question is: "Is the all-star break 'oustide' of the g-league season"?

Also, it looks like they can travel with the team for the playoffs (assuming we make it).

I've kind of been looking forward to this game because of the match-ups at guard and forward

* can Holiday & Ball bottle up Dame when he's on a tear? Will CJ do better than a 1.0 point/shot ratio? Will the Pelican's back court length once agains be kryptonite for the shorter Blazer guards

* Zion and Ingram against Ariza and Melo, That looks really interesting and could go several different directions. I was a bit disappointed to read that Ingram might not play. I'm a Blazer fan but I'm also a basketball fan, and that match-up could be fun if everybody is healthy
