How many games do you predict the Blazers will win on this road trip?

Collins should get minutes. Layman only got 12 tonight with ET already out. Stotts doing his best to hold him down every chance he gets.
Or maybe Jake needs to work on his defense. As soon as he would come in the game, Boston would run his man to the block and abuse him.

If they can beat Toronto on the road after a grind it out win against the Celtics, that will show me that the Playoffs could be different. Tonight was a good start. Playoff type defense and struggling on offense.
So if they lose, the playoffs won't be different? what if they go 6&1 on the trip, still pessimistic about offs?

I don't get why @TBpup is complaining so much. That was one of our best wins this season

No Brown abusing Layman in the 2nd half was clearly coaching.
Layman is Larry Bird 2.0
Signed tbpup 2019.

Jake had 8 points scored on him. One was a fadaway where Brown started at 4' and faded back to 12' with a rainbow shot that went in. No one is defending that shot. Another was Kyrie scored on him after Dame just gave up on defense and Layman defended very well to the point Kyrie had to throw up a double-pump, reach back half hook that Layman still almost got a piece of.

If those types of shots are going in, that is not bad defense. You just have to live with it.

After this possession Hood switched onto Brown and forced him off his spot.
Layman was too soft even tho he's bigger than Hood.
So yes you can defend that shot.

It's not just about recovering to contest a shot. Which is what I was pointing out to a couple posters when Layman started to get minutes.
Layman is 6'9 he can recover. It's about not allowing a player to catch the ball in this case with 1 foot in the paint like Layman allowed Brown to get. Where Hood did this.

Honestly, have we not all seen 'hot' runs in the second half before? Has it resulted in a single win in the Playoffs the last two years? They are playing better (which I posted but seems to be ignored) and these types of wins are more 'playoff' type wins. There is a difference between realistic and pessimistic.

Layman forced him off his spot as well which is why he ended up shooting 8' from where he started. If you can get the other team to take those types of shots all game, that is actually very good defense. Because some of them go in doesn't mean it is bad defense.

Big Rice Fan....but haven't though much about him this year.
The man is retired in Florida, probably a better fir for him.

No. He caught the ball with 1 foot in the paint.
That is not forcing him off his spot, that is playing soft defense.
Hood forced him off his spot and he forced Brown out to 15 ft the very next possession.
Layman is super athletic he can recover and contest almost anything.
But if you let an NBA player catch the ball with 1 foot in the paint bad things are going to happen.
Until layman learns to be more physical on defense this will continue to happen.

He had his moments

But Tatum and Brown also put him in the basket multiple times.

But that is completely ignoring the defense Jake played to force the shot that he did.

It's similar to Turner when he backs people down and takes the turnaround fade.
Or
When Lillard dribbles into the step back 20ft baseline jumper
Or
When Kobe used to shoot from the elbows.

When you let an NBA player get to the spot they want to recovering defense is still poor defense.
That's where they want to shoot from, where the defense isn't going to matter contest or not.
It's soft.
Layman was too soft and regardless of the recovery. Brown wanted to shoot from 8ft away.
He didn't want to have to face up and pull from 15 like Hood forced him to.
These are the differences between good defense, and lazy defense.

Basically Brown with Layman on him was shooting over a chair in practice.

Using Kobe and Dame to make a point might not be the best for a case.
Also, Dame and CJ ask that you please not watch their defense. And again, players are going to get to spots. The rules favor offensive players. Sometimes you can keep them out but most times they are getting to where they want to go. To then still be able to force such a tough, contested shot is part of defense. He happened to make it....but that wouldn't happen very often on the type of shot he was forced into.

Do you think they co
Remaining schedule sets up for a run at the two seed. Only a couple tough road games left.

Home and home with Denver will be deciding factor.
Think they'll fires Stotts by then? lol for the Stotts haters

Dame and CJ both played awful in the first half.

Dame ends the game with 33 points and numerous made plays. CJ ends 6/19 contributing literally nothing to the game.

CJ doesn’t even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Dame.

Anytime you go 6-33 from three and win in Boston you take that shit and run out of town. Need more from the bench but awesome to start 4-0 on the trip.

Absolutely! Road wins are tough period. When you shoot that poorly, it's next to impossible but they gutted one out and withstood a couple of runs. If they can continue to build on that, it does wonders for getting wins in the Playoffs.

Thank you for this Post. Unfortunately i can give you only one like

I really didn't think Jake played poor defense either. But i did see Mo play very well. So maybe it was situational but with the win in the books i can't find a reason to complain really.

Really? A ball off the rim is 14 seconds instead of a full reset?

Tells you where I am with the NBA....
Yep, but imo that specific play was a controlled tip. Therefore it should've went to 24 instead of 14.
Refs didn't agree with me tho :(
