Game Thread GAME# 64: WIZARDS @ BLAZERS - MARCH 11, 2017 - SATURDAY, 7:00 PM (PST), CSNNW

We can cry about refs all we want but we blew a 21 point lead. That is inexcusable with the offensive talent we have. We have to learn how to step on a team's throat and put them away. If we came out and played hard at the start of the 3rd qrtr, both teams would have been resting their starters by the 4th qrtr because the game would have been over. Instead, we come out lackadaisical, throwing up contested deep threes with 19 seconds on the shot clock. This team lacks killer instinct. Everytime we get a big lead we let the team slowly creep back into the game. When we learn how to put a team away we will be very good, but right now we seem content to do just enough to squeak out games. I don't love Russel Westbrook, but if our players had his mentality, this game would have been a 20+ point blowout. Simply put, this team needs to mature and grow up.

For sure. But that 13-0 run wasn't all of the officials. Washington chipped and hammered at the lead -albeit with some helpfrom the boys in stripes- but our offense looked out of sync during that time. Too much forcing. Not enough ball movement. The Blazers wants away from everything that built the lead and battled the runs in the early 3rd quarter.

But again, if the refs don't keep them in striking distance, they never get over the hump. We recover and hang on to win by at least 6-8 in regulation.

True, but basketball is a game of runs. Peaks and valleys. I still think we had played well enough to win overall. The reffing affected how we defended and how we were able to score, and ultimately affected the outcome of the game. Sorry if this comes off as me arguing with you, I'm just pissed off right now.

You'd have a better point if it were just one blown call at the end of the game, but there were so many blatant non-calls and phantom calls against Portland.
