You don't think it is? For one, there are significantly less options with the Bledsoe contract.
it is, but not to the extent that some people are thinking. bledsoe contract is essentially worthless now. i bet he gets waived and we eat the 3.9 mil.

but we can ship out hart + stuff for a better positional fit and still stay below the hard cap.

while this removes us from the running for KD or any 30+ mil player, moves are still possible.

Ayton + Payton II >>> Nurk + Hart

All day long. Our talent level just massively took a jump.
And I really think Ayton's drama was because he wasn't given a contract extension to start the season like other Suns on the same contract as him. I'd be a little peeved all season too.

I took a look at reasonable wing targets given the salaries we have to offer.

Don't think anything is happening lol.

this is easier said than done, and practically impossible unless you're expecting to get nurk for less than 10 mil
What are you talking about? A S&T? We have Nurk’s bird rights and go way past cap and into LT to resign him. It can be the last thing we do for the summer….

Here's GPII's defense in the playoffs alone:

the GP2 deal triggered the hard cap. we can't exceed 157 mil. we're about 20 mil from that now and have no centers signed.

order of operations is irrelevant.

I didn't know that GP2 is more than 2 years older than Josh Hart. Dec '92 vs March '95

hart + winslow + keon for Barnes works. but ya, i think we're pretty much done til the deadline.

You need to also account for the empty salary slots, so it will add a bit of salary.

But IDK why you would do that, Hart by himself is better than Barnes.

Look at the small forwards in this league. How many of them could GP2/Hart not guard? LeBron? That's probably it? And Bron plays PF mostly now anyways. I get you want length/big wings, but GP2 is legitimately one of the best perimeter defenders in the league. He plays like a PF.

i think they're equal talents, but barnes is taller. really the only reason, but i'm torn.

think you're higher on ayton than i am. but fair opinion.

trading hart + double S&T nurk for ayton is also not an easy feat now either.

None of these deals are official…OOO does matter since moratorium isn’t over.

Getting Thybulle would not have hard capped us. And his salary this yr is half of GP2's
if we could have gotten thybulle for a few seconds it would have happened already. This is the next best thing. We're short on rotation minutes as it is.

I'm a big Nurk and Hart fan, but this is a clear upgrade that makes us much better in the now and the future.

Torey and Eric are wrong. Ant hasn’t been signed yet. None of these players have. I believe July 6th is the first day contracts can be signed.
This is why I get so triggered by sign and trades. You can NOT sign and trade your own free agent like a player under contract. In order for this to happen, Ant would have to back out of his deal with Portland and then meet with Brooklyn, without our suggestion of doing so, and then not only agree to a contract with them but then also get Portland and Brooklyn to work out a trade. On top of that, both teams would be hard capped (Portland from GP2, Brooklyn from the sign and trade) and both teams would have a very difficult time staying under that hard cap line.

Contracts can get backed out on but not an agreed upon trade in order to then try and sign and trade that same player elsewhere. Not gonna happen.

Exactly. And this happens all the time. The idea that we can't trade Simons til January when we haven't even signed him yet is ridiculous.

What good are Bird Rights then?
For when you aren't hard capped. In this situation, prior to the GP3 signing we could've signed Nurk to a max if we wanted to. Now, it's around $18 million if we simply cut Bledsoe and a little more if we cut and stretch Bledsoe, but the closer his contract is to that $18 million the less wiggle room they have for the entire rest of the league year.

It happens all the time? So then you should be able to site other times where a team's own free agent agreed to a deal with that team, then backed out of a deal and talked to another team that just happened to be the one team his old team needed him to talk to and a sign and trade was worked out?

Happens all the time... And the word is "cite."
