Gary Payton II Trade to the Warriors

It would not be logical for league investigation to uncover any wrongdoing on the part of the Blazers.
Portland's had little to say but it has been consistent, while Golden State's telling of the events has been......well, interesting and varied. If the NBA penalizes the Blazers for this then I think something is really fishy.

Really makes you wonder who this original source was that had the Blazers injecting GP2 with Toradol and forcing him to play. That narrative's been shot to smithereens but no one's talking about it even though it was believed without being vetted and started the whole road to the Blazers being investigated because Payton is (check notes) sore.

Yep. The Blazers might want to let it lay there but the league may surprise us and decide that there are grounds for disciplinary action against the Warriors.

so, after about 80 hours of Portland being labeled an outlaw franchise....of forcing Payton to have Toradol injections and lying about it....of Payton probably being out for 3 months....of the Warriors being wronged by the dastardly Blazers who shamefully mistreated Payton...

we find ourselves at this point:

* The initial stories and reporting unraveled without the Blazers having to do a thing. A classic rope-a-dope
* Payton might miss 3 months; or he might be back right after the all-star break
* Payton was give an oral anti-inflammatory about at the level of extra-strength Advil or Motrin
* Portland may have failed to disclose this to the Warriors

and that leaves a bunch of questions:

* what were the reasons that Payton failed his physical? Was he given an MRI or just an exam and interview?
* how many times was he given oral Toradol? 56 times? 3 times?
* does the Toradol have to be prescribed by a doctor or can it be dispensed by a trainer?
* Did the Blazers suggest Toradol to Payton or did a player who has had several surgeries ask for it?
* what are the protocols for reporting the distribution of anti-inflammatory meds to players?
* how often are anti-inflammatory meds given to players?
* If issuing anti-inflammatories to players is common, and there is no set league-wide protocol, and can be issued by trainers...if the Blazers did fail to disclose, was that a deliberate attempt to conceal or a simple over-sight?

The cynic in me believes that if the roles were reversed the Blazers would be getting a fine and have to forfeit a draft pick for floating a story detrimental to the league and effectively tampering, but no action will be taken against the Warrios.

I don’t know any of the answers. I think GS knew he wasn’t 100% but didn’t think he was as far away from 100% than he is. I think then it was asked, the response was a lot more optimistic than reality shows. And that’s why GS is upset. Instead of saying where’s he’s at, what he has to do (take) to play, they sugar coated it. That’s what I think. Then GP2 showed up and fails a physical that GS didn’t expect him to fail. I don’t get how people think GS is such an awful, hateful franchise and is willing to potentially get caught red handed trying to fuck over another franchise. That seems a bit risky for GS.
Can't disagree with any of that. Similarly, I don’t get how people think the Blazers is such an awful and stupid organization that is willing to potentially get caught red handed trying to fuck over another franchise. That seems extremely risky for Portland.

More so because the Blazers aren't winning -- they don't have this rabid national fanbase willing to support them in just about anything that comes out about them. In fact, you have more of a movement nationally to see the Blazers fail because fans of just about any team that think they have a path to a championship would love to trade for Damian Lillard. That makes a lot of good copy for national pundits and beat writers in major markets trying to drive views for their social media.

I believe I know the answer to exactly one of those questions: Toradol is prescription-only.

but once prescribed by a team doctor, can a licensed trainer dispense it to players?

I guess another question: is Toradol issued one dose at a time or can a player, say a player like Payton, be issued a bottle of doses and take them at his discretion?

Someone more clever than me should make an account on a Warriors board under the name Toradol, and go just slightly over the top defending the Warriors and Blasting the Blazers, using dumb arguments of course.

This won't completely answer that question but it at least gives a little context, although Schilling was receiving injections.

Can I suggest using phrases such as "not to inflame matters", "sticking to the core of the topic", "I need to inject this to the discussion"

Shouldn’t there be a Toradol shot drinking game? Every time GP2 gets mentioned on Twitter tomorrow you take a shot of your favorite libation.

Every time he gets mentioned you take a shot of Toradol.

Reality is that a hit piece purposefully dropped moments before the Blazers press conference where it accused Portland of basically forcing Payton to play and injecting him with the drug and that he'd be out around 3 months. I've highlighted the parts that have already changed for some reason.

You think that's an appropriate way, and time, for GS to communicate this?

The reality I see is that I watched Payton play 22 minutes the night before where he mugged and played around with GS. And that Portland has no history of forcing players to play injured. And no history of concealing medical information during trades.

The reality is also that none of the players on Portland have defended Payton, but one who was no longer even on the team went out of his way to defend the team and training staff.

And the reality is that the story had come out that Payton had been at odds with the team, and the evidence has accumulated significantly since then to substantiate this (see previous paragraph).

So now we've got Payton and Quick, who both have grudges against the Blazers, coming out strong with forced injections and 3 month recovery times and then GS, butt-hurt over 5 2nd round picks, asks for an investigation over glorified Ibuprofen to help their player save face and deflect attention to the changing allegations.

Did Golden State really ask the league to launch an investigation because Payton willfully took glorified Ibuprofen on occasion? A player who'd played 15 games on limited minutes as he came back from a longterm injury, and anyone with eyes could tell he was playing like a shell of himself compared to last year. Were they not watching? That was public information. Not to mention GPII keeps in touch with people on GS. The amount Payton runs his mouth and complains I'm sure they'd heard all about it. Unless Payton thought taking a pill here and there wasn't even worth bringing up. Maybe it's not thug enough for him which is why he went with the injections in his initial lie.

They said he failed a physical.
Yes they also said he'd be out 3 months. And now, since GS realized they walked themselves into a corner with the whole "3 month" accusation, decide it's really probably just a week or two before he can thug it out again.

Why would a timeline suddenly be changed so dramatically? Weren't they confident enough with that 3 month timeline to go to the press with it? I mean the article clearly said, "But the Warriors’ medical staff, according to sources, is saying he needs about three months to recover". That's reality right? That's what it says.

And don't you confirm a drug was fucking injected before you go to the media with it? What changed? If it had been the truth nothing would have changed.

With the timing and the accusations that have completely changed, GS, Payton and the athletic and of course Quick, look like sleazy sons of bitches, and parts of this whole thing look completely premeditated by some entities who have a grudge agains the Blazers.

It's not behind a paywall, you just have to give him your email and decline to subscribe, then you can read the article.
It was just a timeline. Not super interesting or ground breaking.

Right you are Bubbles.

Is it true the worriers accepted the deal despite their allegations yet still wants the nba to investigate? Hmmm
