A must-watch for any basketball fan. If any fan of hoops hasn't watched this film, there is something wrong with your fandom, or you're too young to know what this movie means.

Another must-see for anybody who has owned their own company, or who wants to some day.

Exit Through the Gift Shop is a recent one that was pretty good.

Any doc narrated/directed by Werner Herzog is a unique experience. Grizzly Man, for example.

Has everybody here seen Hoop Dreams? If not, you aren't a fan of hoops, at least at the molecular level.

I saw it when i was a kid. Loved it.. Sad neither guy made it to the nba. One of them made it to slamball at least

Uhhh, why are you acting like you're teaching us about Hoop Dreams? I've seen it numerous times.

The other one became a minister last I heard (maybe about a year ago). And, yes, I'm sure everyone here knows and probably has seen Hoops Dreams. Great sports documentary but also a great documentary about poverty in an American inner city.

Some that I have liked: "Lucky" about the lottery; "Superheroes" about people who roll play as superheroes; "Monster Camp" abour some LARPers; "Bastards of the Party" about the history of inner city gangs; "King of Kong";

Another sports documentary I really liked is Up for Grabs about the dispute over t he Barry Bonds homerun ball.

Perhaps some of the younger posters here haven't seen it. It's been 20 years since it came out. You asked for documentaries, and I listed two. If you don't want people to comment, don't start the fucking thread.

I think the first time I watched it was in high school health class or something. I'm sure there's good fans of basketball out there that haven't seen it though.

Perhaps, because of your seeming additive comments? :dunno: I've been an ardent fan of hoops for over 40 years, but have never seen Hoop Dreams.

Something that's not a good documentary is Oliver Stone's untold history of America.

Factually incorrect and full of conspiracy theories.

This is a several part documentary on Showtime, FWIW.

He makes a good argument that it was the USSR that won WWII and not the USA.

I don't agree with it but he brings up some interesting points.

I think he got that right. USSR withstood the siege and in the end it was a race to the heart of Berlin.

His love of anticapitalism shows in how his version of history is distorted. The USA sucks, the USSR actually won the Cold War. USSR had society right. Stalin was brutal but doing the right things. Etc.

He continuously tries to make the case that the USA always was a Progressive society and there was a vast right wing conspiracy holding us back. That the govt. was hijacked by the right even with how FDR replaced Wallace with Truman as VP. Anyone with a clue should see through this BS. The nation was founded on principles of Liberty, small federal govt., and states were the seat of power. For the first half of our history, elections were about constitutional questions and issues. The progressive ERA didn't begin until 1890 for crying out loud.

Oliver Stone believes JFK is a docu-drama.

Want a terrible "documentary" that has been debunked? Try Fahrenheit 911. What a joke that movie was.

"Now watch this drive"

I have not seen hoop dreams therefore all of my basketball fandom is just programming as I am a cold an emotionless robot who often falls asleep while making love. beep boop.

You haven't missed much. It's somewhat interesting, but it's oversold as being great.

Here, watch this 1985 HBO documentary about my close middle school friend Roger Stillwell, a 6 foot 7 Chicago Bears starter who died a slow death from a game injury, and NFL all-star Jim Otto, whose leg was amputated in 2007.

This is Spinal Tap, Best in show

On a serious note, I usually only watch sports related ones, so Hoop Dreams, Baseball and Olympia are all great
