Trade Grant to Portland for Mil first done deal

I like it! I was worried about losing the 7th pick in this deal. I wonder if we get Collins with it.

:dunno: Why would we? This deal will have roughly the same impact as Powell or RoCo. Why is everyone so impressed by a trade that won't move the needle?
It's all about expectations.

It's not the 7 pick. It's not even a first rounder this year. If we were resigned to the team getting him, then this is about as painless a way as I can envision it happening.

I still don't see a path where the team is good enough to have Grant be a difference-maker, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

What if this is a big brain move by the Pistons to offer a max to Ant? Or a larger than expected contract to Nurk? That would be a shitty unintended consequence.

There are some people who are seriously counting their chickens before they're hatched on this one.

This was a solid trade, but there's a reason why Grant doesn't have a ton of trade value. He has some warts. So calm down on the "haha I told you so" shit. You aren't there yet. He could demand a max deal. He isn't worth a max deal. The Bucks could lose Giannis for the year and their pick end up a high lottery pick. Don't believe me? Did anyone think the Lakers would have the 8th pick this draft? Apparently Cronin didn't because he didn't get that pick from New Orleans.

Calm down on your gloating because the guy hasn't even put on a jersey yet.

Some salary cap wiz tell me how we get Collins/16 for 7 now. It’s win now after this so go all in.

If you catch wind of that you draft Duren if Nurk or Sharpe if Ant. I don’t see them going for Ant, but I could be wrong. This is a swing at Ayton imo.

If they throw a big number at Ant, you reluctantly match.

if they throw a big number at Nurk, you laugh and let them have him.

Well, Well, Well!!!

Where is that hasty FIRE CRONIN thread????

;)
"I told you so" is so lame when there's nothing really to crow about. Cronin made a less-bad deal than most here anticipated (and that some Cronin backers already seemed resigned to). That's fantastic. Less-bad than what he'd done so far is definitely a step in the right direction.

Im very intrugied as to how, with our current assets, you would maneuver a needle-moving trade?

Dame is staying.

Ant is staying.

Nurk is staying.

With what we have to actually trade, how would you make a move for a more needle-moving player? OG sounds like a #7 +, who else? Ayton? Max deal and wilts in the playoffs?

I didnt want grant, I dont think of this as a needle-mover either. But I also dont know what we CAN do to do that. This trade is about as good as you can get value wise. So can you lay out a couple scenarios that are logic based to get better players? Not just hate on every single move and not give an alternative.

Trading Dame is moronic. There should NEVER be a trade mentioned about him in the next 2 years unless he asks out.

Also, at least Cronin isnt working around the margins. Hes actually gotten what could be an impact player (He'll be at most a #2 here, and its up to grant to see if he can be humble enough to accept that).

Mainly this post is to see if you're just going to complain about everything or actually have a rebuttal to everything you complain about lol.

From a value standpoint, I think it is a fine move. We get a decent starter at one of the forward spots.

I don't see this alone pushing us towards contender status. Baby steps. Let's see what Cronin does tomorrow.

Hoping for Sharpe or Murray. If we take Sharpe it still feels like we are almost running with two different timelines.

Keep that same energy…

Even if he isnt worth the max deal, we didnt lose max value if we let him go. I dont see the issue with that.

The future first rounder for a position of need now and an Olympian that wants to be here and Dame wants to play with...yeah....Roco and Norm got bounced by CJ in the play in series...Roco got benched by Chauncey early...Roco and Norm got bounced early without looking great the last two playoff seasons. In my view we got way better already...Hart and Winslow are two way players ..Winslow is like Igguodala ...Hart is better than pre injury Wes Mathews was...I can't see how you don't see what we're doing here as a complete upgrade .Guys come here and put up career numbers playing next to Dame because of the attention paid to him...Grant may have a career year this season. Enjoy it!

This move is so great because we gave Dame what he wanted and now we have soooo much more freedom in the draft and moving forward. We still need a PF if at all possible so EBEC plus #7 for Collins and #16 seems good and then you draft one of Sochan, Duren or Jovic at 16. Man Im just so excited this move salvaged a really bad situation and gave him options. Also, do NOT extend Grant until midseason. Explain its due to needing to sign Nurk and Simons.

I'm definitely not telling anyone so because I think this is Joe salvaging what he can out of the disaster that was February but a guy that was asking for 112M for 4 years to stay in Detroit losing, isn't going to increase his demands here and 112M over 4 years is like 10M a year less than the max for a player with Grant's tenure. I think we will get him at 4 years 106M, which would put his 2023-24 salary at around 24M.

Dame
Simons
OG
Grant
Nurk

can we make this happen (I’m not against keeping the pick but this is pretty sexi)

Hello,

I apologize if that came off as an “I told you so” comment. It wasn't meant as such, mainly because i never told anyone anything.
However, I do believe that thread was created in haste considering most are of the opinion that there is/was no quick fix to dig out of the hole NO got us in.

My comment was more so about getting excited that the other thread might not get so much attention moving forward. :) Nothing pitted against any specific poster by any means.
