I wonder if they're just waiting to see what Detroit does with its capspace in free agency. If they strike out, they can take on the Bledsoe deal and get Cam as incentive.

Deal 1: Grant /Duren/Kemba
To POR:
- Grant (20.9 mil)
- #46 pick

To DET:
- Kemba (9.5 mil)
- #13 pick
- #36 pick
- future seconds from POR

To NYK:
- 2025 Mil first

Deal 2: Noel + Bledsoe
To POR:
- Noel (9.2 mil)
- 2025 Mil first

To DET (absorbed by capspace):
- Bledsoe (19.2 mil)
- Reddish (5.9 mil)

To NYK:
- future second? i dunno, they do all this for capspace.

That would be insane if Joe could pull that off. Fun to think about even if highly unlikely.

Is there any official news of Grant to Portland?

We'd get the pick back we traded to get Grant? Lol. So basically, Bledsoe, the 2022 2nd swap and two future 2nds for Grant and Noel? That would be awesome.

Deal still not official. Probably won't be until the 6th after the moratorium.

I don't think Duren is even allowed to practice in Detroit without signing his contract, which he can't do until the deal is official.

According to Grant's IG, he's stateside, so that's definitely not the holdup.

Still makes me wonder if we’re gonna use Bledsoe instead of the TPE.

Only real benefit there is removing Bled's 3.9 mil from our books, but we can't use our 21 mil TPE for anything else, so not really that significant.

Getting off of that 3.9 is probably super significant to Cronin if they make no more moves this offseason, as that drops the team below the luxury tax and pushes the repeater tax countdown off another year. If you know you're still a year or 2 away, that is very helpful

ask Dame how he feels about that...

we have like the 14th highest payroll in the league right now. good luck in convincing him (or me) that this franchise cares about winning if saving $ is our goal. who cares if we are a repeater next year? we should be. winning teams don't care about that.

To be clear - if Portland ONLY used Bledsoe to facilitate the Grant trade, then his contract would have to be guaranteed for $15M.

If Portland uses the TPE & sends Bledsoe back, then the guarantee can say at $4M

I don't think he'd ask Dame what he thinks about 3.9 Mil. The choices right now are basically to add someone for roughly 5 million or push off the repeater tax countdown this year. I'd bet the plan is to duck under this year. I'd also bet once they signed GPII they moved on from guys like Thybulle. I could be wrong but I don't see the point in making anymore incremental moves this year, keeping them in the luxury tax, when they're not quite ready to really compete. They're better, and likely in the playoffs this year, but it's gonna be another year before it's time to go all in. Also why I don't think he cared much about the hard cap cause this isn't the year they push their chips in

Then forget Dame. Your talk about hesitancy to enter the tax is nails on the chalkboard for ME.

WTF do i care about saving Jody money?

According to Joe Dame knows more about the cap than anybody around ....he's been involved with this whole front office process...was meeting with Joe and Chauncey daily while unable to play...you're talking about a high hoops IQ guy who is invested enough in the team to hang with the GM and Coach for months and months when he could've been hangin' in strip clubs like Harden. ..and people want to trade him? Baffles the mind...Dame will be to the Blazers what Magic was to the Lakers...an ambassador long after he stops playing.
I'll be honest, not sure why this was your response to my post.

after re reading your post I have to agree...I think I was misreading your....first few words there ...I don't care about Jody's money either, nor does Dame I'd guess. My post lacked context in reply to yours...my bad

Having ANY extra breathing room with the hard cap could be significant for moves. That 3.9 could make a big difference.

Who cares what you think.

End of the day, sport franchises are buisness. They have to make decisions based on their economic realities (which you're not privy too).

clearly they don't care about me. but if ducking the tax is a goal for this "business," then I don't feel the need to support them financially any longer. Especially if we are so far below other teams in overall payroll. Clearly it would indicate that competing is not the priority.

perhaps, and i would welcome bledsoe's involvement in the grant trade, but i'm just saying. It won't make THAT big of a difference into who else we can acquire. KD/Simmons/et al are still off the table. Sure we could add Thybulle, but we can do that now.

Don’t we really have the ability to do most anything until the moratorium is over? So that’s our clock?

That's a false dichotomy that you are setting up there.

Portland could be spending $200M is salary & still have a lotto level team.

Just because they 'spend money' doesn't mean that they are any better. Also, if they make a move to duck the tax - it doesn't mean that they are not committed to winning.

The moves we're talking about here are minor and will not move the needle.

Does anyone know if Grant has talked about Portland since the trade? If so, can you please link it?

Regardless, it's a reflection of priorities. As a fan why should i care? And if you're including Bledsoe, you would have to attach an asset like a future pick or Keon. We want to give that up for Jody to save $? Of course that upsets me, and it should upset someone like Dame.

He has only reposted that he was traded to Portland on his IG stories when it was announced. Radio silence since
