Gutsy win by the BLazers and they deserve credit.... even though Rudy did everything he could to lose taht game. Heres all you need to know about Rudy.. when he came in they got the lead down from 24 to 7. Thanks for coming. Do I need to say anymore? Its like turnover, awful defense, off balance jumper (that he would miss on 2 legs) and another turnover. He should even play. Bayless who suddenly sucks as well at least gets free throws. Anyone who wouldnt trade Rudy needs their head examined or are drinking kpee kool aod along with a mixture from jason quick. THIS GUY SUCKS! How can anyone not trade him for Butler or Haywood? Thats laughable.

And kpee has already called it a season as i feared. What a freaking pussy that guy is. Really cant stand him anymore. Hes best friends with every player including worthless ones and is not capable of making a solid trade. Now hes ok with missing the playoffs. Why? Cause the fans (like the ones who post here) let him be. They dont demand anything but "next year" which is for losers. I mean how can you not read that piece quick wrote and wanna puke in pritchards face? "Roy doesnt want trades". Really Kev? Could taht be cause Outlaws his best friend? Tell Roy to start playing and they make judgement calls. Cause right now hes a cheerleader. Does kpee not watch us get killed by any team with legit centers? I just hope the players know that all the hard work and effort tehy gave this asshole was for not. What a scum bag. Howard should throw that bucket in his face.

In case you need to be reminded

Yeah let's put Rudy on blast for 2 piss poor games....but while you are at it why don't you add Blake, Outlaw, Webster, Bayless and Batum to that list?

Batum 3pts last night...absolutely fucking pathetic...trade his ass now before he diminishes his trade value any more...

Yeah....Let's all be like Mixum...

Hyperbole much?

when has rudy played well this year?

answer me that.

its a tough question... like asking when the last time bayless made a jumper?

Interesting link there.

Pritchard calls this the most unique trading-deadline position he has been associated with in his eight years in the NBA, the last six of which have been in Portland.

Last year was the unique opportunity with LaFrentz, not this year.

He believes many of the championship pieces, albeit young and still developing, are in place.

He believes wrong.

But his heart is telling him to help this injury-ravaged team that has shown more fight and resolve than anyone could have asked for during such an emotionally and physically trying season.

They could fight better if they had better players.

So far, most of Pritchard's conversations have been surface dialogue. A feeling-out process. There have been, he says, only three concrete deals proposed.

So he is too untalented to bargain down the offers. And I hope this prevents the usual claim from Pritchard defenders that all past possible trades were only rumors.

At the crux of his debate is whether the Blazers can make the playoffs without making a move for a big man. There are some days he thinks the team can. There are others he does not.

Is he mentally unstable? Make a decision and stick with it, you dolt! Is he incompetent to act upon his decisions, or is he incompetent to decide in the first place?

Two of his players have personally told him to stay put. The team's star, Brandon Roy, hasn't talked to Pritchard but said he also is against a trade. Roy thinks the team as it is right now can not only make the playoffs, but also win a playoff series.

That makes 3 players expressing their trade opinions. Who cares what they think? Is Pritchard the boss or not? Bob Whitsitt was too busy to hang around the boys. Pritchard should get busy like him.

Because of losing Joel Przybilla and Greg Oden both for the season, the Blazers are in an unusual position. They need help now, but not next year.

Wrong, wrong. Joel will never be the same and Greg is 50-50 to become reliable.

Still, the trading deadline and the scent of the playoffs tempts Pritchard's go-for-it bravado. He has proven to be one of the NBA's brightest evaluators of talent, and he would also like to be known as one of the bravest at the trading table.

That paragraph makes me want to vomit the $1.99 breakfast I just ate. And it was good. The team cancer is the Oregonian.

"You have to be willing to give up something and lose it for nothing," Pritchard says. "That's high-risk poker is what that is. And that's exactly the conundrum we are going through. We are going to be faced with something that's going to say we will potentially lose a couple of players forever for somebody we will have for 26 games. "And when it's put in those terms, it really makes you think. 'For 26 games ... really?"'

See above about Joel and Greg, you conundrum-challenged coward-chicken.

There is also the lesson learned last season, when two separate NBA sources say Pritchard pulled away from two deals at the deadline: One that would have brought Vince Carter to Portland, and another that would have netted Richard Jefferson.

Hear that, Pritchard defenders? It wasn't all rumors. But you'll keep saying it was.

Eventually, probably out of frustration, Pritchard grabbed my pad and pen. He listed the Blazers roster by position, then asked me to circle the players who would be on the Blazers championship team. I circled six: Roy, Oden, LaMarcus Aldridge, Batum, Fernandez and Przybilla. Pritchard would not reveal who he would circle.

The last two will be gone. His mind should be at a far deeper level of detail than this. But as he said, he has only gone through the feeling-out stage, not any negotiating, because he's indecisive.

He then constructed three boxes side-by-side: Untouchables. Players to move. And in the middle, players who have yet to define themselves in either the untouchable or player to move box.

There should be no such class system. He should give thought to any offer. This is as much detail as the average fan gives trades. He should be in a far more detailed mode of thought.

Nobody will know for sure until Feb. 18 comes and passes. But as Roy said this week, "it better be a heckuva deal in our favor to make a move."

Again, does any other team allow players to talk about trades? No, because the GM is the leader there.

"I want to shove my chips in," Pritchard said. "The question is, is it now? Because at the end of the day it's not about making the eighth seed. What it is about is having the ability to win playoff series and competing for championship. "If you start every decision making process with that statement, then things become clear."

Yes, it's clear that all team progress is due to McMillan, not him, because he equates his job with gambling. We need to replace this guy with a talent evaluator good enough not to gamble. Can you imagine if McMillan threw up his hands at every gametime deadline, saying, "All it's about is winning a championship. So I just can't bring myself to gamble my future chips. I'm going to start all the rookies and not worry about this year, since they'll be the ones who win us the championship. Look at this list of players. Circle the ones you would start tonight. See how hard this is?"

Rudy has been playing poorly this year, seems to have really regressed. He did have a few good games here and there.

I think we should keep him though, if just for marketing value. He's a fan favorite...he just needs to be bumped in the rotation a bit.

If the team was struggling to sell tickets, I'd agree. Since they are not, if Rudy can bring in a player who fits this team better, I hope Pritchard would make the move. Since half the state can't even watch on TV (sorry, folks!), keeping a player for marketing reasons doesn't make much of a difference to the bottom-line. In my opinion only, of course.

The only reason that article doesn't make me beat my head on the monitor, is that I know it must be pure PR fluff. (not to mention a healthy bit of misdirection)

"Wait till next year" "Let it bake" "Life is all butterflies and rainbows" "Greg and Joel will return next season, riding on golden unicorns, and lead us to a title"

Now you know how we feel.

Brandon needs to shut his damn mouth.

We have a nice team, that will make the playoffs every year they aren't injured. That is until players like Rudy, Bayless, Batum, Webster and others leave because there is no clear cut pecking order on the roster. Example: Roy is better than Rudy, so Rudy should ne expect to start. Example 2: Rudy might or might not be better than Bayless, so both deserve time.

It would be so much better long term to trade 2-3 of Blake, Travis, Webster, Batum, Bayless, Rudy for a clear upgrade somewhere.

hahahaha mediocre man.... you expect kpee to trade when hes in love with crap players????

I don't think I have ever said I think he will trade at the deadline. Frankly, I would be shocked if he did.

I think he should, and most definately should have last season at the deadline however.

MIXUM HAS A SMALL GREG ODEN!!!!!really really really small greg oden................get it

really small greg oden...

well at least mine works every night and isnt a bust

id rather be smaller like in size like durant then huge like oden

I tend to agree with Roy. Unless its a fantastic trade, I wouldn't bother. This season is kind of a wash for me anyway, just about PT.

Pritchard sent Roy to Quick to cover Pritchard's tracks on his inaction. No other GM lets players talk about trades, maybe because no other writer falls for it. The first article makes clear that Pritchard is strongly against any trade.

Today Nikolokolus referred to the Pareto Principle--20% of the employees do 80% of the work. This team would get just as many wins if we gave away Rudy, Webster, and Bayless for nothing, and replaced them with experienced $800,000 per year journeymen like Juwan Howard. Rent guys and replace them every 2 years when they get too old. We'd have just as many wins, not just now but forever. We need to build the Pareto Principle top 4-5, not the bottom 10 out of 15.

We've heard "next year" ever since Whitsitt quit almost 7 years ago. That's the last time we heard about "this year."

you wonder why its always next year? our fans accept that so kpee gets a free pass. people buy tickets and settle for it.

it will be the same next year too. oden gets hurt by xmas. roys hammy acts up by all star break. joel is a shell of his former self. too many players want pt. i can see it now. nothing will change. kpee will sugar coat on why we shouldnt deal cause hes chicken shit.

So you think Portland would be better off with RJ or Carter instead of Miller? Jefferson is available, by the way... wonder why.

I haven't heard anything about RJ being available. I haven't even heard of the Spurs even looking at trading at all.

Every time a thread about Pritchard comes up, someone says, well what exact trade was (is) available (now, or when we had LaFrentz, or whenever). Can't just rely upon an old thread in which many posters had read the same thing.

Even if the response is to cite the trades available at the time, which would be proven to a court's satisfaction because multiple writers got the same information from multiple GMs, the answer is then--

Can you prove that the articles existed? So a past article is linked.

Can you name an unnamed GM, not just the multiple writers vouching that they heard this from multiple GMs?

Even if that is provided, then--

Do you have the exact quote?

No. And even if we did, I can imagine the next objections from Pritchard defenders--

Can you get a sworn statement from the GM that the reporters aren't all lying?
I want to see the paperwork submitted to the league.
No, a copy won't do, don't you have the original?
You do? Not certified by a Notary Public? Well forget it then.
Alright then. All the reporters were lying.

So my point here wasn't to say that Carter and Jefferson aren't taking time to adjust to their new teams. (Actually, it's the guys we would have given up, Fernandez and Bayless, who are taking far more time. We still would have come out ahead on the trades.)

My point is to show that here again is a reporter (Quick) who will be called a liar in a future thread when Pritchard defenders again challenge us that any possible trade Pritchard could have ever made in history was all rumors and lies. (Even if it were true that no offer has ever happened, it'd be because of his inaction in negotiating to make offers happen, as he often admits, such as in this article.)

But it doesn't surprise me that his defenders (any of you personal friends?) will twist it this way and that. If there's anyone who's good at making friends, it's Pritchard. Whitsitt used to stay in the office, too busy running 20 companies for nonsense.

"Next year" is PERFECTLY reasonable.

Even setting aside the number of injuries we've had, this team is still very, very young. We might make it into the playoffs in spite of being decimated with injuries and next year the team should be both healthier AND more experienced... while losing almost nothing unless they trade them away and/or let them walk.

If the team can improve this year without costing us much of anything in the future? Great. Trade Outlaw/Blake to get something for this year, sure. But don't move guys who are less proven (in good ways and bad) just to get a bump up this season.

^ (jlprk) Feel better for having shared?

I don't think many of us who have defended KP against the unending no-trade blather on this board would argue that there haven't been deals available to be had. KP even says as much in Quick's article that there are deals he could make today if he were willing to pay the price of multiple young players. I believe that the comment regarding Jefferson and Carter wasn't saying that those players couldn't have been had last year, but that they wouldn't have been worth the price. Their stats this year indicate that KP knew what he was doing in passing on guys who are on bloated contracts that aren't worth the declining production they bring. Are Fernandez and Bayless better than Carter and Jefferson right now? No, but they're young enough and talented enough that they have upside. Carter and Jefferson don't. They're also a whole lot more affordable than these falling former All-Stars.

KP may or may not make a deal before the deadline, but he's certainly not going to make one just to satisfy the message board BS that gets posted here on a daily basis.

Previous Pritchard threads have had his defenders challenging us to precise details and proof about any unconsummated trade we remember the media having reported, no matter how many unnamed independent sources verified it. They won't even admit in the abstract that there have ever been any such trades, without proof. So I'm glad you're more honest about it, e-blazer, but some others are more rigid.

The "upside" of Fernandez and Bayless has definitely fallen below last year's "up," and is still declining. Sell while the value is high. Rudy won't stay beyond his contract anyway.

this team is still very, very young.

A perennial excuse, and whose fault is that?

A perennial excuse, and whose fault is that?

That's not a perennial excuse. It's about three years of that excuse. The PatterNash teams were not particularly young and certainly not any good.

As for this year... there is no "fault" for being young. Why would there be fault?

A young competitive team promises to be at LEAST as good for many years to come. A young team like ours, with so much potentially starting-quality talent, has a chance to be something spectacular.

In the mean time, we're in the playoff hunt in spite of a tremendous amount of injuries.

Why is there fault in that?
