Greg Oden cleared at "end of summer" for basketball activities

I think some of you are not realizing that Oden had his surgery only in late November.

Given the general 1 year recovery time, I think this estimate is quite generous.

Oh right! I guess it faded into the mists of history that he didn't have microfracture during the summer like last time. It all makes more sense again.

Q.O. ... no play ... UFA

I'd be shocked if this doesn't happen.

Why would that help Oden?

Q.O....No Play....UFA....= muted interest from the few GM's with cap space.

Q.O.....Play for a couple of months during the shortened season....Run off a string of ten straight games of double doubles....UFA....= a fucking feeding frenzy.

Unless Oden truly cannot play well, why would he leave ten of millions of $$$$$$ on the table as an UFA, just to sit out an already shortened season?

He can't be a RFA in summer 2012, at least under the current CBA. Unless I am misreading your post? If he accepts the Q.O., then he is an UFA that summer. If he declines the Q.O., then he is an RFA as of July 1st, or whenever the lockout ends.

Plus, if he really wants out of Portland, then being a RFA this summer puts that decision out of his hands.

Ah crap. I put RFA, when I meant UFA. Obviously if Oden accepts the Q.O., he will be a Unrestricted FA in 2012. I will edit.

I figured it must have been an error, since I know your level of knowledge. The key still, IMO, is whether or not Oden wants to stay in Portland for up to 5 more years. He's going to have to make that decision in the next 42 days. At that point, we'll have some clarity on Oden, which will be a relief, either way he decides.
