The restricted free agent center has not been cleared to participate in scrimmages or any basketball-related activities that include contact, according to his agent, Mike Conley. He has been cleared to run, ride a bike and participate in non-contact basketball drills - shooting, dribbling, etc. - but there remains no time line for a possible return.

"There have not been any setbacks," Conley said of Oden's health. "That's the best way to word it. Doctors really did not give him a hard time line (for a return) ... but he's working hard and trying his best to get back."

And he still gets to keep his handicap parking permit!

It's sounds as if it'll be unlikely he'll be much of an asset this year.

Then what?

cynics:

Well that means he's going to sit out the season and not risk injuring himself!

optimists:

It just means he's taking the safe route!

Tony Danza:

Eh Oh, oh eh!

Greg Oden's agent, Mike Conley, says Oden is still not cleared for scrimmaging and basketball-related activities that have any contact.

There's also this:

Oden’s representatives last spoke with the Blazers in June, when they issued the qualifying offer, and the team told Conley, “they believed in Greg and they’re proving it with the qualifying offer,” Conley said. Conley says his gut tells him Oden will remain a Blazer.

“I think he will be,” Conley said. “I definitely think he will be.”

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Breathe Shooter Breathe. They're simply trying not to break your heart like they've done so many times before, except now they've learned that if they don't get your hopes in the first place, they won't be broken. Not that you ever really have your expectations up high anyway.

Well it all depends on how you listen, as you know our senses can't really be trusted to determine reality... Amazing how many different ways you can say "I'll be back when I'm ready" , I've learned about a 1,000 different ways since buying my G.O jersey back in 2007. No news here!

Anyone else hear the Charlie Brown music? :)

Just kidding.

Oden's plan is most likely to sit out this year and sign with the Pacers or Heat

It's a gamble: do you sit out this season because you don't want to get injured again and you want to get a multi-year contract as a UFA, or do you try to show that you're WORTH it? Probably the first strategy is best, because there's bound to be ONE gullible team...

I made the CB reference, but I have confidence in Oden! He's going to be our driving force deep into the playoffs!! He'll come back lighter than usual and surprise a lot of people! GO BLAZERS, GO GREG ODEN!!!

im sure you could get great odds on that, put your money where your mouth is and make a fortune, seeing as how that is "most likely"

is your inside source telling you greg odens future plans now?

I think that costs him a lot of money in the long run. If he wants rings he could do that with Heat but if he wants money he needs to play this year and show he still has something to give a team other then the promise of "talent".

no MM said its "most likely" he will take a mini mid level deal instead, duh

The lockout started 4 months ago, which was the last time the Blazers should have had any contact with Oden. Maybe the Blazers told him to take it easy until the lockout is over & they can look at him again.

Empty promises are all he has left.

He only needs to con one team into offering him a fat deal. Better to make excuses than to risk exposure.

The hated for Greg on this board is incredible. It's almost as if you people believe he wanted to be an oft-injured bust, destined to break the hearts of the Blazer soccer mom fans...you guys read too much Simmons.

He has no time table for his return because the docs said so, not because Greg did. So blame them. I for one am excited about his return to the Blazers, and I hope he proves to deserve to be in our long-term plans.

I'll continue holding out hope - if for no other reason than I see Oden as the only immediate route that this franchise can take to get where we all want to be. If he can be healthy, the Blazers are back in business. If not, we're stuck.

I used to have sympathy for Oden. No more.

Either get on the court, or admit you can't play and retire. At this point, any other option makes him a liar, thief and con artist.

After the way Blazer fans turned on guys like Zach and Sheed, it just blows my mind how forgiving they are of someone who has done nothing to earn their loyalty.

Any other city would be giving him a hard time.

I completely agree with this. For some reason, Oden continues to be treated with kid gloves by this city and fanbase, in general.

It's been over a year since his last surgery, and he's still not cleared for much more than riding a bike? Perhaps the Blazers can put together a cycling squad to at least get some sort of use out of Oden.

I hold no ill will toward Oden, but I'm pretty comfortable making the statement that his body just wasn't made for the grind of professional basketball. It sucks, but it is what it is.

I don't trust his agent. I wouldn't at all be surprised if he ends up in Memphis some how.

At what point do you "admit you can't play and retire"? And who decides that? Obviously neither Oden or the organization are there yet.

Fans turned on Sheed & Zach because of attitude problems. Oden has made some mistakes, but all in all seems like a pretty nice kid.

Just because you have written him off doesn't mean the rest of us have to.

Good one

I somewhat disagree with the bolded. The organization could have offered Oden an extension; instead, they only offered the Q.O., which they basically had to do to avoid already admitting that drafting Oden over Durant was a mistake.

They had a chance to make a statement on Oden in Portland by offering him an extension. They didn't do that, yet if Oden sits out the year, I can't see Paul Allen wasting another dime on the flake.

You can thank Cho for that. He refused to sign him to an extension.

That's up there with trading Bayless for....I don't even know anymore.
