I have 335 points. And 4 referrals. And a rep power of 2. Somebody please explain.

And I too thought this thread was about my boy's cock!

3 years 25M with incentives to go considerably higher is my guess as to whats eventually settled on. Greg has national marketability... if he stays healthy he will dominate and be the face of the franchise

I fear our definition of a "decent sized" extension is nowhere close to what Oden and his reps consider his due as the #1 pick.

It would be logical for Oden to want to re-sign before the new CBA - but logic often gets lost in contract negotiations. From his POV, once he hits the free agent market, it only takes 1 team to make a really dumb offer. I don't doubt he has people in his ear telling him to take that risk.

Good point. If I'm GO's agent I don't take anything under 10/mil year. Big men of questionable talent get some ridiculous offers. Someone will pay big bucks for Oden (big man with talent but questionable health) . . . the real question is should it be the Blazers.

As said, a lot of teams dropped huge numbers for big men . . . but that doesn't always mean it was the right decision.

I think it would be foolish not to offer GO a decent deal. My feeling is he'll be a guy who misses several games every couple of years. I'm honestly fine with that as long as we get the 2-3 years of GO healthy and at least 1 championship. Similar to what Walton did, just get us a damn championship. I no longer have hopes of a dynasty. I think many of us (me included) started counting our championships the day we won the #1 pick. Unfortunately there is a lot of luck (staying healthy being the biggest) that also goes into winning championships. Injuries are such a huge factor in being able to compete for championships. Look at Boston, had Garnett (who I can't stand) stayed healthy last year we could be looking at a 3peat for the Celtics.

Unfortunately I think we'll have to worry more about Roy staying healthy.

I'd offer an extension up to about 8 mil per year. If he wants more he can risk having another injury.

I don't mind us having to pay more next summer if he has a break out year, I'll just be glad he is playing.

I'd make him earn it. If he has any motivation issues, the prospects of mo' money could be exactly what he needs.

I voted 'no,' but I'd be okay with a contract filled with performance based incentives.

It's a sliding scale. A shorter contract and the Blazers can pay more. But if Oden wants a 6 year deal, with his injury issues, the Blazers would need to pay less. Example, 3 years 27 mil. 6 years 42mil. And of course some of that money would be dependent on number of games, but he is not going to sign anything that is too heavily weighted towards incentives.

I have a hard time believing that Greg will sign for less that what the team paid Marcus.

Go Blazers

Portland is a pretty good destination for a lot of NBA players. But not a top destination. Call me insecure, but the risk of letting potentially great players become a free agent always worries me. Lock them up long term until they get used to the rain. (It takes about 8-10 years.) Sure we end up over paying a little. But that is what it takes.

There is no risk of losing him, as we can match whatever offer any team gives him. We can, however, potentially risk the chance of overpaying him.
