Guns Make People Safe

I sort of think of the .223 as support weapon, good for the guys that help but don't necessary shoot all that well.
Mine is the Ruger Mini 14.

I hear yeah with the shot gun. Mine is Mossberg 12 magnum with 24' slug barrel. Usually loaded with 00 Buck Shot.

But my handy tool is the 357. Magnum Carbine. Lever action knock off of the old Winchester model 92. Holds
eleven rounds of .357 or 13 .38 special.
I loaded the .357 rounds for this with Win 296 powder pushing 125 jacketed Hollow points. I think the hitting power is a little better than shown above, with a velocity of about 2300 feet per second. My close quarters boat gun. No testing the hand gun laws with this way.

The .270 Winchester is a long time favorite, maybe even a sniper rifle. I first acquired mine, when I was aboard Ship. It was sent to me later after I was discharged.

Have had the model 99 lever action Savage .308 even longer. Well there are more but enough musing.

Nice! I have a Ruger GP100 in .357 Magnum, stainless, with a 4" barrel. I absolutely love it. I bought it new, and put some after-market Altamont grips on it.

The rounds are 125 gr loads from Underwood. Very powerful rounds, with a beautiful fireball.

In as far as lever action rifles go.....I have a 16" Legacy Sports International Puma M92 in .454 Casull:

It puts out a 260 grain load at about 2,000-2,100 FPS, with about 2,100-2,300 ft-lbs of energy. And, depending on the load you shoot, the fireball is awesome.

I fucking love it. It was a gift from my buddy Ken, who I mentioned earlier in this thread. The front sight came off (red fiber optic), and I need to find a gun smith to put it back on; this time I'll have it pinned in place. Once I get it repaired, I plan to take my first wild pig with it when I can find the land and get the license.

My other guns are a 3rd Gen Glock 22, Winchester 1200 28" 12 ga, Romanian WASR 10/63 AK-47, and a Marlin M60W in .22 LR. The Winchester and Marlin I received in a trade as collateral from a co-worker of mine, who needed a firearm for duty use. I gave him my Springfield XD-45 in exchange for these two guns, and what was supposed to be cash, paid off over time. I would hold the guns as collateral until he could pay off the Springfield.

I left the company though in 2007, and lost touch with him. Trust me...he got the better end of that deal. I've never fired the shotgun in the 9 years I've had it, and the Marlin isn't my type of rifle. Together, they're barely worth $250; whereas I was selling the Springfield to him for $400 or $450, IIRC.

Oh well. I hope he enjoys it...if he still even has it.

If scores of armed Secret Service agents were already present at and securing the Pulse nightclub when the shooting occurred, then I would agree that the two are comparable. In the real world, they are not.

Had it been any FL club that wasn't explicitly gay oriented the terrorist would have been riddled with bullets immediately. Gays need to take responsibility for their own safety like all Real Americans. You have only the rights you are willing to defend. The murders continued FOR 3 hours after the police arrived.

Using the 2nd amendment to wipe your ass? That's gonna piss some people off.

Idaho state legislators are discussing a plan that would allow teachers and possible school level administrators to have guns in their classrooms/school. Only teachers that volunteer would be considered, and then they must complete a training class.

One of the items being debated is if the guns should be locked up in a safe within the classroom, allow the teachers to conceal carry, or some other plan.

The goal is to make the students safer against a mass shooter. In the past, teachers have placed themselves between the shooter and their students. Some teachers have died for their bravery. More students and teachers would be alive today if the teachers were allowed to carry a gun, and properly trained how to use it.

On a side note, I had many wonderful school teachers over the years who were committed helping me become a successful person even though it didn't pay as much as a big corporation. Now school shootings have to be dealt with and these teachers are going to have to ask themselves if it's worth risking a horrible accident to prevent the less likely but increasingly real risk of a mass shooting. Or quit altogether I suppose. That career never gets easier and most of them don't get the acknowledgement they deserve.

Umm, no doubt they are all wonderful. But I don't know that this statement paints the real picture across America. In my town, not rich, but then not the poorest on the coast either. In comparison to the general population, I expect only the owner of Bandon Optical and the Principle makes more money than the school teachers. Perhaps the new Doctor, but I don't think she knows yet, the previous closed the operation in disgust. Maybe the Dentist, but I doubt he knows yet either having less than a year running the practice.

In general the local school teachers make nearly twice the average of the local population. How much here is fair?

Wow, coming from you this is funny. Who ever said life was fair???? Is it fair that CEOs make tens of millions of dollars while their employees make minimum wage??? Is it fair Trump is going to be president with 3 million less votes than his opponent?? It's just the way it is. Maybe your towns former doctor and dentist would have succeeded if everyone had health care. Would that have been fair?? These teachers went to college and racked up debt. They, like everyone else get paid what the market dictates. After listening to your takes on life for the last year and a half you are the absolute last guy I would expect to whine about "fair". Wow, you sound like one of those liberals you are constantly deriding. Like life owes you a living and your version of "fairness". Your comments about "fair" are absolutely astounding.

I don't know where local is for you but Oregon teachers are required to have a master's degree or at minimum a 5th year. Now compare them to other jobs requiring that level of education and tell me if you still think they're overpaid. Graduate school is expensive!

big high five for! You rock!

Serious now, I do not like the 5.56 round for home protection. Plus it is not a good hunting round for anything other than coyotes.

One of the reasons the military went to the 5.56 round over the 7.62 was it was more probable to wound an enemy than kill him. If you kill an enemy in combat, that’s it, he is done. But if you wound an enemy in combat, you will take at least one other solider out of combat, and possible more, to give aid, then remove the wounded from harms way.

Why would you want to use a round designed to wound an intruder? Sure you can hit him multiple times, but I am of the old school, 1 shoot, 1 kill.

They make the AR series in larger calibers, which is what I would have if I bought an AR type weapon for home protection. The 7mm or larger would be a good round for a lot of things, including hunting and home protection.

Just my opinion.
I appriciate your opinion. However. In the event of zombie appocalypse. 5.56 is going to be easy to find in the us. Tbh, i just want an ar-15 because of the bad press they get. I have my .270 for hunting and my 22lr for cheap plinking. Just want to add another size to the arsenal. Options never hurt.

I have the Mossberg 500 with interchangeable barrels. One barrel is for home protection, and the other for bird hunting.

I like my weapons to be able to cover several positions, the same way I like my basketball players.

I would love to own the 590A1, nice shotgun, and an excellent home protection weapon.
Ive got a benelli nova with home defense barrel and extended round tube. I keep 8 shots in it incase of a late night visitor.

Thats anothe thing i like about the ar15 m4 platform. So many accesories available if i need a light and laser and red dot ect. I can get it all easily. Wouldnt mind the grenade launcher on the bottom, just in case.

Thank god our government respects our right to privacy and wouldn't ever create a simple database of ip addresses and mentions of weapons. I mean no one would ever think that might be a way to prevent terrorism. Mentions of weapons and tie that to IP addresses of the person making the post. Nah. The government would never want to know who owns what weapons. Never.

Where you been? They been requiring all your info every time you buy one for over 30 years.

So you mean, the locals should have no say? The teachers are entitled to what ever pay they deem right and just for their education? Dang man! It doesn't work like that for anyone else.

Government knows what i own because all my shit was purchased legally and registered. They dont need to go through the hassel of tracing my ip.

Sure, Oregon set their standard. If a teacher can't recoup the cost of their education that career will stop attracting people to it. I guess Oregonians could decide to lower the standard to a BS/BA or HS diploma but they haven't show any indication they want to do that.

Let me add right here that I feel I got an outstanding public education and I don't have any children myself but firmly believe education is the way out of poverty.

I hear that. I guess killing stuff loses it's appeal when your eating well enough. Never did look on it as a sport.
Me either. My buddy keeps trying to get me to join a hunting club for $1200 a year and im like even if i fill all my tags im paying more per lb than beef at the store so why would i do that?

Between your post about threatening to kill people in the PP thread and your gun posts here I imagine you've made a few different databases.

Yet the government still employees me. But they also employed a muslim terrorist as pesident for the last 8 years, so i see your point.

And i never threatened to kill anyone, im too lazy for that, i suggested people take personal responsibility.
