Two seasons ago Hassan Whiteside was considered a garbage man role player who wouldn't stick, so values also change ...nobody would max CJ 2 years ago...he made the leap from bench warmer to starter. Stability takes foresight

We haven't had this kind of bench depth in ages if ever...I don't see any Soccer Mom false joy in anticipating success...there's just more stupid money available this offseason so unlike some, folks need to stop thinking in 2010 dollars and realize, the money is changing and besides, it's not our money anyway...be as fiscally responsible as you want with your own budget but I'm glad to see Paul Allen prime the pump and keep players in town.

As you always point out, we don't land FA stars, so if we want that legit 3rd option........we need an abundance of depth first.
Trading is our only option and Neil knows it. The key IMO is being patient for the right deal. Stay competitive as best as you can, build the depth, and wait for the right trade opportunity. If it doesn't come, then so be it. But it is still our best option.

I prefer it over blowing it up in the hope that your very young lottery picks pan out in 5-7 years.

As long as Harkless continues to receive ample playing time I like this. Not because I want him to "earn" the money, but because I think he checks out completely when he's buried in a rotation. He seems like he needs to be consistently active to stay engaged and productive. That may be a tall order with such a deep roster. We shall see.

Well he does get some revenue from the basketball team. It's probably not enough to come out even, but I am sure it's close. As people said about Howard Schultz when he sold the team to the OKC group because he was losing money, "you don't own a basketball team to make money." Howard thought he was going to, one of many errors in the creation of the Zombie Sonics. Paul Allen knows better by now, owning two teams and all.

All things considered, if we had said that we'd retain Crabbe/Harkless/Leonard for an average of 12.5 each, I think everyone would have been okay with that. It just so happens that Crabbe got a lot more than that, and Harkless/Leonard got less than that. Neil did a great job retaining Harkless/Leonard for fairly affordable contracts.

That is pretty fucking ridiculous...almost half a billion dollars allocated to 6 guys to play a game...still I'm happy to have our guys back...and glad I'm not the one paying

IMO, the only player on the team who is currently overpaid is Crabbe, but there remains the possibility he lives up to it this year or next.

I just don't think you can pay your backup 18.5.... so it means you either trade him to a team that wants to start him, or you trade CJ.

I guess he could start at the three.... but frankly I'd rather play Harkless at the three.

I think Turner is the perfect backup point/two guard. He can play minutes at both spots.

I don't get people complaining about the deal. It's a fair contract, in current climate it's even a friendly contract which we'd have no problems moving on. The more assets we have on good contracts, the better. We're not getting a FA star, so we may as well try to succeed by adding depth to the team or build up assets to trade for a star caliber player.

Can't imagine it will stay this way. However, we only need to be under the tax line at the end of the 17-18 season, so there will definitely be a trade in the next two years.

Is this assuming the Cap stays near the same? Because i'v heard multiple times on different podcasts before FA that the cap is expecting to take another large jump of 10m in the next few years.
