Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Last thing (then I'm done I swear) . . . if you listened to 750 during the draft, it was so obvious who Mike and Mike thought should be drafted (Lillard and Leonard). I swear these two picks were decided before the draft even started. They started talking about and pushing Leonard right after Lillard was picked and they never even talked about drafting Barnes while the Blazers were on the clock for the #6 pick. They knew.

Alright done. Go Blazers!
Both Lillard and Leonard were dressed for Blazers success during the draft. They knew too.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Oh, hell no! :(

Hire The Glove to coach him up. Lilliard already idolizes the guy and worked with him apparently during the lead up to the draft.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

I am all over hiring Gary to coach Lillard and Joel to teach Leonard. Worth every penny. Sadly, the Blazers have shown no such inclination to follow such a prescription in the past.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Actually I think it's kind of a bad idea to have a team pay for a personal development coach, too many opportunities for conflict with the real coach and the real possibility that you'll piss off the other players on your roster by giving preferential treatment.

If Lilliard or Leonard want to hire their own guys then they absolutely should, but I don't really think the team needs to do that for them.

Hadn't thought of it like that. IOW: Do it in the off season.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

How 'bout Shaw as head coach, Grgurich as lead assistant, Payton as guard/defensive coach, and keep Buck around to work with our bigs.

Grg's has never been a lead assistant and he's never wanted to. He's a player development guru.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Whatever they do, I want Przybilla on this team working with/practicing against Leonard. I'll stop repeating myself now. :)

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Can we hire the Suns' medical staff as our head coach?

Agreed. But I want Joel back with or without the drafting of Leonard. Been saying it since we traded the guy. He's one of those guys that teaches toughness and the concept of team - he always has his mates' backs.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Yup, I always thought Joel was the driving force behind the culture and camaraderie that the Roy-Era Blazers had. He gave us that toughness and attitude, and I think developing that with this group of guys will be very important. I also think Przy will be crucial in helping Leonard harness his emotions and develop defensively.

Plus they can talk about where to get suits and stuff ...

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

I would have taken him at 6 and then would have done everything I could to move up to 7 or 8 to take Lillard. To me what was missing in this draft and has been since KP has been gone was a real lack of creativity.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

I think Lillard would very likely have been there at 11. Toronto is planning on getting Nash and wanted a wing, Detroit wanted a center, NO wanted Rivers. Golden State is the only wild card, they might've considered Lillard at 7 but if they passed I think we would've got him at 11.

Barnes instead of the multi year project Leonard? Oh hell yes!

I totally agree. KP would maximize the value of each draft pick. Since then the Blazer draft scared, they are scared someone else will take Nolan Smith so we reach for him 18 picks early. They are scared we won't get Lillard so we take him much earlier then other teams. KP was finding ways to get the players we want at a valuable draft position. It takes risks to win a title. Playing it safe is a road towards mediocrity.

That's funny because IMO playin it safe would have been to take a "meh" forward who most think becomes an average starter in the NBA, at a position where we are likely ready to pay 10 mil per season to our SF we have - NIC. The risk IMO was taking a guy at a position of need who also was likely rated my most NBA guys as being at the same "tier' as barnes, that being Lillard. We will have our answer over the next few years.

Absolutely. Taking the #1 HS prospect of his class who went to UNC over a no-name PG from a no-name school is the definition of 'playing it safe'. Not 'playing it safe' is having the no-name PG from the no-name school rated at or above the UNC star, and then sticking to your evaluation and/or need and picking the no-name PG. Anybody remember how Barnes was a pre-season All-American as an incoming freshman at UNC? He obviously never lived up to the hype associated with him, and I think that can be viewed as a negative when looking at him as prospect.

The Associated Press' 2010-11 preseason All-America team, with school, height, year and votes from a 65-member national media panel (key 2009-10 statistics in parentheses):

• Kyle Singler, Duke, 6-8, senior, 62 votes (16.5 ppg, 7.7 rpg)

• Jacob Pullen, Kansas State, 6-0, senior, 53 (19.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 82.2 ft pct, 1.8 steals)

• Jimmer Fredette, BYU, 6-2, senior, 49 (22.1 ppg, 4.7 apg, 45.8 3-pt fg pct, 89.2 ft pct)

• JaJuan Johnson, Purdue, 6-10, senior, 46 (15.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 50.7 fg pct, 2.1 blocks)

• Harrison Barnes, North Carolina, 6-8, freshman, 17 (19.7 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 60 fg pct at Ames (Iowa) HS)

In what world is drafting Lillard over Barnes "playing it safe"? Besides, passing on Barnes pretty much guarantees that Batum will be matched as a RFA.

KP just got done drafting Miles "Fucking" Plumlee with Perry Jones still on the board ...

I think KP's drafting is forever going to be impacted by taking Oden over Durant, and he'll shy away from guys with injury concerns.

Well said, Papa.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

lol, we will see this year....

Would have been nice to have him if they trade away Batum....

Would rather have Lillad if he turns out to be a decent PG then barnes anyway since all of the good PG FA are gone and there isn't one thats on a better level then Lillard coming out next year.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

I think Barnes signed already....

Best hope for POR is to extract Derrick Williams out of MIN, in addition to a 1st round pick for Batum....

If we took Barnes we could've signed one of those free agent PG's silly.

Bump :devilwink:

...is Draco eating crow yet?!

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

To quote peeps who were worried we didn't maximize value.... I'm tempted to say we did.
