It's only imaginary when you have it.

Not so much when you don't have it (ask Kahn).

So true. Still mind boggling that Minnesota actually tried to use completely imaginary cap-space to sign a player to an offer sheet. Never seen that one before.

We have been sold this song and dance before. Remember? Trading zach people were saying we would have 2 near max contacts in cap space....result....andre miller. Then this summer we had as much cap space as anyone...result.....resigned batum. Yay.

And we won't have it until next summer. Amount we have not guaranteed. Its a good free agent pool wouldn't mind batum hitting the bricks personally

Well in reality we didn't have the cap space we wanted because Miles played 10 games for the Grizz remember? Now if our cap space had Mile's contract deduction; we would have had some significant cap space to land a top tier talent. Before that; we've only dabbled with 7-8 mil free. And in all reality; Andre Miller was a good pick-up if you ask me.

Not for two years of being so scared to make moves to preserve the imaginary cap space. Its like building through the draft...extremely overrated

"I'm very happy about it," Batum said, "so we will see what happens tomorrow with the physical, and I'm going to talk with the media Friday before I go back to France, so you will know everything Friday."

Sounds like Batum isn't being forced to play anywhere. Looks like he wants to play in Portland. Another spit in the eye for Haynes and Khan

OKC looked like they did well building through the draft. Also, if our pick was Durant instead of Oden; we would be in a much better place right now. Also, Roy and Aldridge were very good lotto picks.

Why in the hell would they not give him his physical today before the deadline to match?

Maybe if KP could have gotten over his infatuation with his stable of drafted players and been willing to make an unbalanced trade (without just offering garbage and expirings or cap room) then that cap space might have been a useful asset, but instead KP convinced himself that he could sell Portland to Hedo. When that failed he just started flailing trying to make a splash (chasing David Lee, etc.) and got (somewhat) lucky when Andre Miller practically begged him to sign him.

With Olshey, he knew this FA crop wasn't great and loaded with a lot of RFAs, so he went hard after the one guy he thought could be a difference maker and when that didn't work he got the best SF free agent on the market for a slight overpay. I get the feeling Olshey understands that trades are going to be the way forward, and having some cap room next summer might help facilitate a winning play.

Okc tanked 4-5 years in a row to make seattle relatively apathetic to their move. Sure, if you can land 3 top 5 picks then it's not bad I guess. But then you are in franchise and league historically bad territory.

Okay, so if we aren't too concerned about cap space; the Batum signing isn't a big deal to you right? Since we shouldn't be concerned with saving money; we don't have to worry about a couple extra million right?

The infatuation was also with preserving the cap space for two years. No real target, no plan, was relatively useless. Damn you tom penn, cap genius.

This thread has me feeling like this!

Komic-Kahn! Brilliant!

I think he has empty cap space between the ears.

If you really want to pass that off as the reason that Howard Schultz sold the team to a consortium of OKC oil men and then they subsequently moved the team, you don't really get it.

That team was on the move if they had sucked or not and was a done deal before the ink on the bill of sale had dried.

Did anyone see Adelman watching Williams last night in Vegas?

He looked downright depressed.*

Spoke to Minnesota GM David Kahn and he says they're prepared for whatever happens when it comes to #Blazers matching Nicolas Batum.

Sorry dog your barking up the wrong tree. I know your not anti gay. I read you whenever you post. I just thought it was weird that you are cool with gay people, but needed to spin her pro gay post it into a disagreement. At least that how it seemed to me. Your, if........fucking idiot, is weak sauce btw. Peace.

Cool. I'm glad to see I misunderstood the issue with my post.

If we match, I really hope Nic lives up to the contract. At this point, I maintain that we should let him go, because I think we're not a deep playoff team if he's one of your three best players and at that salary, he should be at least your third best player.

Guess it really depends on how you look at it. If we still have an opprtunity to have 15.9 mil free next summer; then it's really a moot point. Also, Batum is a great wing defender and probably our deadliest eye from the perimeter. As much as I don't like over-paying; we still might be in good shape.

At this point that is how I feel too. Like you, I was against overpaying Batum, but it doesn't look like it is going to cripple us at this point or affect our cap situation that much and we could still feasibly pursue a high paid FA next summer if we move a contract or two.
