Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

This "offer" was a weak attempt to get Portland back to the table for a S&T.

Wow. Not coming through and at least trying to make the offer to Batum makes Minne look shady, shady, shady. If I'm an agent, going forward, I'd tell Minne, "We can't even talk until you have the money to sign my player."

Imaginary Cap Space is one thing. But an imaginary signed offer sheet that can't be turned into the league is one of the funniest things I have ever heard of.

Other than a single tweet, has it really been confirmed that this won't somehow get through the league? I understand the rationale of why it would be invalid, but has there been any real confirmation that either the Tpups aren't going to submit it, or that the league has voided it?

"I can have the money next Tuesday, Dave! Just give me a chance to make right!"

I'm guessing it's known that they can't afford it yet. But you're right that none of the media folks have said anything about them actually being afford it.

No. The league won't comment on it until it's submitted. IMO it won't ever BE submitted, b/c it's invalid. But no one's going to say that.

+1. I really have no clue how they'd be able to, unless there's some odd rules we have no clue about. From what i can see, they don't have the money for it. So while they might have gone through the process of having Nic sign... I dunno. One last All in with their chips to try to get us to fold, I suppose.

Next will be that we didn't tell them about Roy's knees, even though he wasn't traded...

Exactly.

I fully expect Kahn to ask the Blazers for compensation for Brandon Roy's lack of knee cartilage.

That's actually pretty ridiculous if true.

I question how true it is though just because Zgoda essentially got kicked out of the inner circle when Kahn was hired, and his articles and tweets do nothing but bash the shiite out of Kahn because of it. He's about as bitter as bitter gets.

We should be trying to get back compensation for being stuck with Babbitt!

That's funny. It's rumored that Kahn went through the same things when Paul Allen bought the Blazers...

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

I don't think he'll take the QO. We'll offer him a five year deal averaging $8-9MM and he'll jump on it.

I think you could be right. Batum would be wise to lock in the sure thing now, rather than risking injury and getting paid nothing. It's not like he hasn't seen firsthand how things worked out for Roy and Oden.

Interestingly, there's not much chatter from other teams about Batum. It's not like there are dozens of suitors looking to follow up Minnesota's act. Some teams are probably taking Portland at their word that we'll match, and others probably just don't think he's worth much more than $8 or $9 mil/year, so why overpay for a guy who isn't ever going to be a superstar, and doesn't play center or pg.

didn't know that, thanks for the insight...but it's always interesting to me who buddies up to whom. The mutual circle-jerk between Jaynes and Zgoda the last few days has been sickening.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

I'm sorry, but you're an idiot if you actually think players that aren't on rookie contracts and are comparable to Leonard, ie Batum, would get contracts similar to what Leonard is being paid.

Talk about fantasy land.

I merely pointed out that a player with more actual value (Leonard) is currently available (via trade) for about 20% what Batum is "demanding". That clearly establishes Batum's actual worth to an intelligent GM. Paying $10-12 mil when you could have a same or better player for far less is why we are a cellar-dweller.

Come on, let's be honest. It's Portland and Minnesota. No one gives a crap about us. They're worried about Dwight Howard, the Heat, the Lakers, and the Knicks. We're nothing but a blip on the radar.

So you get a couple writers that want attention, so they're definitely feeding into it. And of coure, both of our GMs are giving them plenty of material to work with.

Zgoda was dead set on his belief that Rubio would never play in Minnesota, that Adelman would never coach the Wolves, and that Love would accept the QO or force a trade. Pretty sure he also said that Kahn would have been fired along with Rambis.

This whole thing reminds me of the Darius Miles resigning. Division rival Denver was the only other team seriously interested in Miles. Rather than lose him to a rival, Paul panicked and we overpaid for a young, inconsistent small forward that had shown flashes of promise, but never put it all together for any extended period of time.

It seems like Minnesota is trying the same thing, drive up Batum's price so we overpay to keep him. It's not a bad strategy - either you steal a piece from a division rival and weaken their roster, or you force them to overpay and hamstring them financially for several years.

I just hope Paul has learned his lesson and doesn't panic again. Of course, Neil Olshey seems a lot less panic stricken and more competent than John Nash.

I'm going to miss Farmer Chris.

Using Laker records on behalf of a different franchise was absolute gold!

What do you plan on trading to the Spurs for Leonard that you think they would actually accept? Unless you're moving Aldridge or multiple first round picks, they'd laugh at you. The reason why? Because Leonard is a good player that is currently getting paid WAY under market value. Leonard definitely isn't "available".

I think that is the money quote. And seems to have the juice to both say what he wants and get PA on board with it.

Actually I remember this being reported back two years ago after the trade had been consummated and Martell missed all of that time. My only question is that even if Martell had a back problem, why the hell did the Wolves physician sign off on his physical?

Actually it's all about Happy Valley, and Blake Griffin's knee today. So I guess I'll agree with you on something.

Uh oh... This Timberwolves fan sounds reasonable... What's going on here?!

"Farmer" Chris is the host of the local morning show. He's paid to be a troll, basically. That and he's the lead singer of a horrible band, Rocket Club.
