Just out of curiosity what other teams out there have enough cap space to sign Batum if Minni never comes up with an offer? Not saying anyone else would, but who has cap space left?
@brianfromwa @jwquick Wrong. If a player is waived with non-guar salary, his non-guar salary comes off the team salary when he clears @LarryCoon #FAQ63
I have the new CBA. What Brian is saying is all fact based on the new agreement
Is this true?
Brian are you getting your information from the old cba or the new?
Wrong? That's the same thing Jason Quick said.
The CBA says all money, including non-guaranteed money, stays on during the 7-day process....then you get relief after the player clears.Quick said:only guaranteed $ stays on books during 7-day waiver process
keep hammering that same bent nail
Where did you get it?
I assume Brian is mostly going off cbafaq.com and other knowledgeable media.
But Brian, until they release the CBA this Minny cap 7 day crunch is all just fan speculation; you and Storyteller were both very adamant the max Blazers could offer Hibbert was $53M... now Larry Coon updated his FAQ that there were increases to max contracts even with no increases in cap.

Trying to help, someone asked about it and I had the page still up. I've quit questioning it. That ship has sailed for me.
the 6% raise to the max was a one-time thing that was set up b/c of the shortened season. Nothing had come out about it until the 9th, though there had been rumors. There were also rumors that the cap was going to go to 61M. Obviously that didn't happen. I don't go by rumors, I go by what the CBA and the FAQ says. And Coon (who has the hard-copy CBA and has had it for months) put into his FAQ the waiver requirements.
Look, I've said all day today that if there's a super-secret way that Kahn can make an offer by immediately clearing cap space -- I don't know about it. I've also said that I don't get the NBA League Office transaction feed...if they waived Webster and Miller last week and no one tweeted or wrote about it I wouldn't know that either. But based on the info that's out there and the CBA FAQ interpretations, that's the best I can come up with.![]()

I love S2! I'm not very educated, but I know hoops and am a fucking baller! I run The City of NERDS that is S2! #FAMS
By that logic (fear of injury I guess) he also would not choose the QO. Too risky. One more thing that everyone is forgetting about is Batum said he won't scrimmage or play games with Team France until he has a contract. The longer this drags out the more it's going to hurt him for the Olympics this summer. He's waiting for Kahn to summit the offer more than anyone else is.
Jason Quick @jwquick @brianfromwa Getting from 2 highly qualified and highly placed NBA individuals. Did mess up on the Martell $; In car and didn't have notes
So if Jaynes isn't totally full of crap and MIN has now included a player previously not available, then who could it be?
Some speculation was that it could be Pekovic...
Great stuff, everyone. Especially Brian From WA for the great salary cap analysis.
Tell me if I have this right: in order to make room for Batum, the Timberwolves would have to unload multiple players and maybe have to wait days for them to clear waivers. But that would all probably be for naught, because the Blazers can, and have said they will, match whatever Minnesota offers.
To add insult to injury, because the Blazers have three days to match the offer, and because Portland - unlike Minnesota - has cap room, Olshey can wait three days to match Batum, adding players along the way, and have no problem going over the cap to sign their own RFA. In short, the Blazers basically could accumulate players while this whole fiasco plays out (and would most definitely wind up with Batum in the end), while the Timberwolves have to dump players to even make a valid, plausible offer (and would most definitely wind up without Batum in the end).
It's kind of shocking how transparent Minnesota's bargaining position is, once all the facts are in. The "trade kicker" is an interesting gambit, but given how far from an actual offer Minnesota is, I'm sure it did little more than raise a quizzical eyebrow at One Center Court.
