Partially guaranteed player is the question, not guaranteed or non guaranteed.

This is all very interesting, but if Brian's information turns out to be correct, the best it does is buy the Blazers a week while the T'Wolves wait until the players they waive clear waivers. Well, that and make Kahn look like a nitwit, which is always fun. Either way, it's time for Minny to put up or shut up, shit or get off the pot, or whatever similar euphemism works for you.

It's all down hill from here I guess. They said they'd file it by the end of business yesterday but it never came. Everything now is an empty threat since they got called out on their bluff.

Olshey should start asking for the moon. We want Pek, DWill and 2 Draft Picks. If you don't get a S&T done by the end of today, we are done
talking. Just sign the offer sheet so we can match. And then watch Khan panic. LoL.

there's no such thing as "partially guaranteed." Webster and Miller have contracts for 2012-13 that consist of 600k/848k of guaranteed salary, and the balance of the 5M or so non-guaranteed if they're waived by whatever date that MIN renegotiated the team option date for. Coon confirmed that, yes, 7 days after being waived the balance comes off of MIN's books, and all they are left with is 600k/848k on the cap. Very same situation as Ryan Gomes for us a couple years ago.

So the 600/848 come off immediately and the rest comes off in 7 days?

the 600/848 never come off this year. they're guaranteed. The balance of the contracts (the "non-guaranteed" part) comes off when waivers are cleared.

So today, Webster and Miller make up $10,816,000 of MIN's 53.6M cap number. If they were waived this very second, that 10,816,000 stays on that 53.6M cap number until they clear waivers 7 days from now. 7 days from now, all of the non-guaranteed money (all but 1.448M) comes off their cap number, leaving them at 44.3M and giving them 13.7M in cap room to do with what they please. They could offer Nic a max contract then, if they wanted.

But until 7 days from when Webster/Miller are waived, MIN can only offer a 4.4M starting salary, which comes out to be about a 4/20M contract.

I wonder if Khan's capologist is running off old info like Penn is...

Wow there has been a lot of confusion on this. The Media/fans have been so far a part on what they think the rules are. Understandable since it is kind of a new topic. Thanks for the explanation Brian.

The problem is the Wolves also agreed to pay Roy $5 million per season and agreed to terms with the Russian guard, if they put out the offer to Nic they don't have the money to give to Roy. Do you think Roy wants to wait 10 days to sign a contract that is contingent on us matching Nic? The Wolves would also lose out on a chance to sign Cortney Lee and/or Steisman the Boston backup C.

I think it's been reported that Shved's going to get the Room Exception after they're done. But you're right about Roy.

I thought I saw he was getting a 3 year deal, and thought the room exception was only 2, starting @ 2.5. Thought I read he was getting 3/9 somewhere, but could be wrong. Will try to see where I found that at.

Yeah, what about renouncing?? RT @cheddar30: @BrianFromWA Amnesty it comes off right away. Non-amnesty it comes off when clearing waivers."

LOL Dwight is trying to call you out

That makes sense.

I still think Roy would flip out if he has to wait 10 days until he can get an offer and only as a plan B option if the TWolves don’t get Batum. Even if Kahn found a loophole to get this done in 3 days Roy might consider signing at Golden State for the MLE in the meantime or something. I’d imagine Roy was originally told by Minny they are going to try and get Batum in a sign and trade before finalizing his deal. Roy thinks he will be the starting SG, not plan B if Batum is matched.
