Stotts just had two of the historically WORST defenses ever in the history of the league. Hard to see this when you bin these into top/bottom 10.

No one is calling MDA Thibs, but he's a step above Stotts (and quite a big one).
Nope. A baby step maybe. Also remember roster construction

Getting MDA he had losing record one year in Denver and 3 years in New York and 2 years he had losing record in LA. Now he was successful in phoenix and Houston. So if he comes to coach the Blazers it's not guaranteed if we will have winning record with him.
He didn’t having a losing record 2 years in LA. He had a losing record once - the year Kobe played 6 games.
16 years

2 top 10 defenses
7 top 20
7 bottom 10

Stotts in 13 seasons:

2 top 10
3 top 20
8 bottom 10, not four
why don’t you compare Stotts entire career like you’re comparing D’Antonis? Not just Stotts time in Portland.
Let me fix the numbers for you.

Stotts bottom 10: 22, 25, 23, 29, 26, 24, 28, 29 and one year he was exactly 20th.

Becky is going to win out. Jody is the owner and Chauncey has the dark past.
if its true that jody wants becky and that olshey wants billups, i assume that olshey doesnt want to go against jody or he could be on a thin ice

but if he goes with becky, he will likely be in jodys good graces

If Neil wants Billups, he should push for Billups. Being in Jody's good graces won't mean much if the team is bad. Olshey is the first person getting fired regardless of who the coach is or where he stands with Jody.

In Portland, there is a growing belief that Jody Allen, the team’s owner, has a strong interest in Becky Hammon, who has been an assistant coach in San Antonio for seven seasons in her quest to become the first woman to serve as a head coach in any of North America’s four major men’s team sports. Neil Olshey, Portland’s general manager, continues to be relentlessly linked to Chauncey Billups, the former N.B.A. finals M.V.P. working as an assistant alongside Atkinson with the Clippers. As for the Portland star Damian Lillard, who initially voiced public support for Kidd before Kidd withdrew from consideration, we await an updated preference.

Sigh. Honestly I find it really tough to believe that Jody Allen went from being super hands off and not really caring about the Blazers (outside of financially), to suddenly pushing for a head coaching candidate, and one that just happens to be female. And to be quite honest, I don't really trust Olshey's evaluation either given his track record. So between Jody, Neil and the Vulcans, I don't really trust that we are going to hire the best candidate. I just don't trust anyone's decision here.

I'm not going to pretend to know Jody or her politics, but if she's someone who doesn't know much about ball, she could see this as an opportunity to put her stamp on the team and do something she's passionate about. Think about it, if you were a woman and you had a chance to advance women's rights and pick someone that's widely respected, wouldn't that make you sit up and take interest? The Blazers were Paul's toy. I'm still not really convinced that Jody is that interested in the team. But I don't find it outside the realm of possibility that she could see this as a way to make a lasting impact from outside Paul's shadow.

If he goes ahead and hires Billups and we bomb next year he is through.

i don't buy this report for a second. i think it's the same deduction i tried to make yesterday after seeing the SBR tweet. if anything, Jody does Becky a disservice by staking this claim about hiring her just cuz she's a woman.

I think Olshey will get his way in the end but the leash will be extra tight. I think Hammon would’ve already been hired if that’s what Jody wanted.

Not necessarily. They're going through their process. They're doing second interviews. I don't think they'll announce a hire until they have completed their interview process, regardless of who that may be.

Agree with you.
But then he looses the playing card of 'the owner made me do it'. (Think Crabbe).

If it’s Hammon, would not be shocked at all if Lillard says I’m out. That says rebuild to him.

Nah. That would make Dame look like a giant tool if he immediately quit as soon as they hired a woman coach. He wouldn't do that. He would wait a year and if we didn't do well he would privately ask for a trade.

I'm not the one who suggested she got an interview only for "good press" because she's "the woman."

To be fair, the post did not include the word "only".....which makes it quite different. Could it possibly be one of the reasons? Well, if Jody wants her because she would be the first woman, it would seem like that is at least partially true.

I want the best coach. Don't care if they are a woman, a minority, an ageing white man or a trained octopus. This hire should not be about some type of 'first'. It should be about getting the best coach.

If they care about keeping Dame happy they will hire an experienced coach like Mike D'Antoni. Mike D'Antoni has the experience edge over all the candidates. Frankly, that might be why D'Antoni is considered a finalist.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but you’re probably right.

His combine record in LA was loosing record. Yes he had a winning season but his 2nd year was so bad that wind up with a loosing record.

The one full year he was there he had no Kobe and the roster outside of Pau Gasol was pretty scrub

Yes, it has been established that he is a poor defensive coach and it seemed very important to our piece of shit GM that we address that with this hire. MDA is not the answer

MDA is not a defensive coach, but he realizes that and gets a defensive minded assistand like Bzdelik. https://www.nba.com/pelicans/video/.../1588099698520-jeff-bzdelik6zatarains-3193074

I wish Stotts would have hired someone like this and then I'm fine with an offensive minded HC. But he didn't/wouldn't.
