In other news the White sox & Melky Cabrera have agreed to a 3 year contract reportedly for $42M

Two thoughts.
1) On paper the WhiteSox are now just about as good as any other team in the A.L.,
...and they may prove it.
2) The games aren't played on paper. lol
And #3 would be, $14M per DAMN! it pays to cheat.

...all things considered, I'm not jumping for joy over this deal.
It's way over due to create performance based contracts in lieu of multi Millions year after year. Give Heady say, 10 Mil a Year, loaded with incentives, for Games Played, B'Avg./ Fldg. Pctg./ RBI's/ Runs/ you name it.....
We used to get paid for our performance via fat bonuses, upon completion of a Performance Mgmt. Plan...I've always felt the best way to pay if for play, and rewards upon excelling....
We can talk about the contract all we want but I'm just happy to have Headley. Great glove, solid clubhouse guy (a gamer) and 20HR potential all while working pitch counts. Gives options for Prado and either Refsnyder/Pirela without having to rely on either out of the gate. I much prefer having a debate on him being signed one year too long that about him signing elsewhere and what it means for the Yanks.
How exactly did it "pay to cheat"? His suspension was also a fine. Didn't that cost him money? Than afterwards he demonstrated his ability to produce at the plate, conforming to the new drug policy.... Thus showing his ability was independent to the perceived " performance enhancement". Your statement is pure hyperbole.
In reality it pays to produce and be a stand up guy, owning your actions. Isn't that the message MLB wants to send? Don't cheat, well catch you. If we catch you, you will do time. After you do time, we will take you back, watch you closely, but you have every opportunity to succeed....and your success will further diminish the desire to cheat.
We can't keep convicting these guys based on past transgressions, otherwise make first offense a lifetime ban. Happy to discuss the latter option with very specific criteria.
And of course you knew I was going to say this....![]()

Bern I see your point & I really hope this signing doesn't take away from giving one of the kids a solid chance.
Wait...you want to pay based on performance? How dare you suggest such an overtly capitalistic concept. What's next, some form of profit sharing dividend related to franchise earnings? No way the communists in the MLBPA go for that.

Well excuse me Father Flanagan but that's that's some of the dumbest crock of shit I've ever heard. But coming from & your habit of disagreeing with just about everybody I shouldn't be surprised. With that said......
1) Which to you and I would have been equivalent to perhaps $100.00 Holy shit that had to hurt.
2) If he was a STAND UP guy he wouldn't have cheated to begin with.
3) And we'll give you enough money to last you a lifetime.
