Highkin: Brandon Roy repping Blazers at lottery

You're off base and putting words in my mouth. Just read what @tykendo wrote first.

This place... What does tanking for Duncan have to do with some pouty, ex-Timberwolf? I said NOTHING about tanking or the Spurs or anything.

It is just absurd to bring BRoy back at all. He hasn't been a part of anything for Portland since his T-Wolves days. That's my point: it's dumb. How silly would it have been if it had been Clyde? Very silly, no? But much less silly than BRoy. At least Clyde is arguable the best player to ever wear a Blazer jersey (I'm a Dame guy, but I said 'arguably'). That's how silly this is.
If BRoy's knee's would have held up he would have passed Clyde on Blazers GOAT list, IMO.

Of course, I'd also be happy to have Clyde represent us at the draft lotto.

I’ll never get the love and support for a player who played less games for us than Meyers Fucking Leonard and seems to hate the city and organization.
I never took anything BRoy has done as hate. I always just thought it hurt him to be reminded about what could have been. And I don't think he likes a lot of attention.

Either way. He was one of the best when he wore the pinwheel. I loved the guy and I remember the hurt I felt when he couldn't play anymore. I can only imagine how it was for him.

Call me sentimental, but I'd feel far better about Jody if she figured out a way to bring Roy into the fold.

It's because we won jackpot when he represented us last time. Also I think he joined blazers same year as cronin

Why would someone who doesn’t, never show his face
Who knows, maybe he was upset over having his career cut short from injury. Maybe he wasn't asked politely. Maybe he preferred laying low with family.

Maybe some old Blazers management made him unwelcomed by talking just as you are now. I sure wouldn't want to be involved with an organization if people gave me that impression.

It's odd that you can extrapolate someone not being present into an act of pure hate.

He actually came to one game maybe around Dame's rookie season with Aldridge and Batum...he and Dame talk all the time according to Dame.

I know he came to watch Jamal Crawford which would've been the year prior to Dames rookie season. He just sort of snuck in and kept a very low profile.

This shit is really really weird in my opinion. The dude gave us everything he had when he played here and then he went on to do whatever the fuck he wanted to. Players don't need to stick around after their careers here are done. That is some whack expectation. After our team stops paying a guy, he's supposed to still show up for the team? WTF is that even?

BRoy was pure class when he was here. Him trying to rejuvenate his career in Minny was completely understandable. I don't give one fuck about a few million dollars he cost a guy who was at one time the second richest person in the U.S.

If Roy wants to get involved with the team again and the team wants to pay him to do so, I will be thrilled. If not, good luck to him in whatever he chooses to do, wherever he chooses to do it and if he never does another thing with the team again, that's fine. The guy gave us his fucking knees, for me that was more than enough.

Thanks for articulating that very well. I have many of the same thoughts, just didn't express it as clearly.

That line of thinking doesn't even make sense. We picked an ex-player to sit in while ping-pong balls bounce around. Nobody outside Portland even cares. Do you care who Sacramento brings?
Other fanbases think it's cool if anything.

What does two men allegedly speaking have anything to do with anything? This place has collectively lost it.

Furthermore, I’m an in quotations fan because I think BRoy was a super douche? Half the forum wants to trade the best player the franchise has (arguably) ever had, but I’m not sure they/you deserve a lower tier of fandom because of it.
Yes, but not in this instance.

Why would someone who doesn’t, never show his face
Maybe because it was hard for him to come to grips with his likely hall-of-fame career getting cut short and being in Portland reminded him of that? The fact that you assume he hates the city for no other reason is asinine. You realize this dude is a human being, right?

I guess MM is the dude who wants more time off work to spend with his family, but will straight up hate another dude for wanting the same thing.

The way I see it, B-Roy gave this franchise everything.

If he hated Rip City he would say no to doing this. He’d also NEVER come to ANY games.

This is a weird one

Does anyone even remember a year later who sat at the table? And is anyone superstitious enough to think it has any impact on what ping pong ball falls out?

Ummmmm.... Yes and Yes

Many people here remember Roy vividly there in 2007. One of the happiest days I've had as a Blazers fan the last two decades.

If you don't think sports fans are irrationally superstitious....

I think we all remember the look on Lillard's face last year when they got the 7th pick.

I am going to keep this very simple and honest and IF you do not like it that is tough -- facts are the facts

Roy is a class act he gave his all for the Blazers and if not for suspect knee(s) he would have had a longer career maybe even borderline HoF one too. He is the perfect player to rep the Blazers at the draft and if I am being honest he was my pick since did not think Dame would be doing it but never thought it would happen. My guess who I thought would be the rep was either Billups or Sharpe . Now to the fans who think this is a mistake or a curse or whatever your being silly and no matter what happens the team is letting the best guy rep the team and again -- FACT

maybe brandon roy is simply disappointed that his career was destroyed by injuries, especially considering how good he was and unfortunately, not everyone can accept bad things that have happened to us, some people just cant let it go and move forward and its quite possible that portland trail blazers are a bad memory for him (not that franchise or fans were guilty for anything), perhaps its just difficult for him to come back, watch games, get connected with the organization

im pretty sure he could get some time on tv if he wanted, but hes disconnected from the nba as a whole, so hes living his life and he is/was a bball coach

this entire debate is kind of a tempest-in-a-teapot. I don't get the passion about this, one way or the other

he was a great Blazer player, for a very short time. Once he was no longer a Blazer, he didn't hang around Portland or shot the team or the city any love. That happens. Most former Blazers go down that path. I do think it's telling that we have heard Aldridge praising the team more than Roy ever has. But that's no big deal

so why has Roy been chosen to rep the Blazers at the lottery? Is it just the rabbit's foot factor? That's probably as deep as it goes. But, we have seen over the years, that Paul Allen, Jody Allen, and the Vulcans all seem to have some obsessive attraction to anybody with Seattle connections. Whether it's Bob Whitsitt or Nate McMillan or Kevin Collabro, if somebody is from Seattle they will be heavily favored in the Blazer F.O. and the Vulcan mothership. Brandon Roy is 100% Seattle

I recently had a cathartic moment irt an old job I had, so I can kinda relate. There comes a point where it weighs down enough on you that you build up a lot of resentment and anger. And then you realize it's not worth it. Could be something like that for Brandon.

Legit question -- all the people who think this is a bad idea 2 part question

1st -- I do not understand the dislike for this selection so am I missing something cause to my knowledge Roy has not done anything bad against the Blazers.
2nd --- IF not Roy then WHO cause if Dame is not doing it name someone better / fitting ?

Also nothing I said is really wrong maybe not facts but pretty damn close and I have done the whole facts things a couple times outside of this and should be more careful in using that so point taken.

who cares if he played less games than…anyone? He pulled the franchise out of irrelevancy.

Yeah really seems like he hates the organization considering he’s going to the draft lottery to represent the city and organization you claim he “hates”.

Feel free to attack someone's views about B-Roy, but let's not let that spill over into attacking poster's core identities, 'kay?

My guess is the reason BRoy was not around after he retired was that Paul Allen was pissed and held a grudge when he lost out on the "retirement clause". So no the "Seattle thing" is not relevant in this case. If Paul felt betrayed or "used" by anyone close to him, that person fell out of favor for good. (I have heard this from former friends of his who traveled the world with Paul) If this was the case with Roy, of course he would not feel welcome in Portland.

It is time to set aside the petty bullshit that happened with Minnesota and make him feel welcome. Life is too short to hold on to these stupid feelings.
It's not like he became a Laker and led them to a championship. (No coming back from that) He played 5 games for the Twolves. Yes, it hurt the Blazers, but people need to get over it.
