I disagree about your take on his playing and the idea that he'll just continue to be bad if given more time.
I never said he won't get better
what I implied is he's so fucking bad right now compared to other NBA players he hasn't deserved the time he's got so far. Forget about upping his minutes. Blazers have to justify that last draft though
Look at this:
Duop Reath is/was a much better C than Yang. The only things Yang did better than Reath was grab rebounds and make assists. But those per 100-possessions numbers are deceiving; per game Yang only averaged 0.4 more rebs and 0.3 more assists. It doesn't matter though because Yang has been so putrid at anything else, any advantage he has over Duop is buried.
another thing about the notion all he needs is more playing time on a consistent basis, be advised that Reath played 258 minutes in 32 game vs Yang with 255 minutes in 34 games. Reath got jerked around as much as Yang but was still able to play somewhat efficient basketball, quadrupling Yang's PER while crushing him in TS%, winshares, winshares/48, BPM, and VORP
remember Keljin Blevins? He was a joke around here and everywhere else as an NBA basketball player. He was so bad he was an embarrassment to NBA scrubs everywhere. But, if you compare Blevins in 2021-22 to Yang this season, Blevins was better in FG% - 2ptFG% - eFG% - PER - TS% - assist/turnover% - winshares - winshares/48 & BPM.....gulp
for Portland, if you disregard Javonte Cook's 83 total minutes, Yang is dead last on the blazers in FG%, eFG%, PER, TS%, WS, WS/48, BPM, & VORP. He would be last in turnovers too, but recently Scoot has galloped over the hill and emptied his six-guns by firing turnovers at innocent bystanders and saloon windows
give Yang more playing time? sure, I like to watch comedy
