Hinrich telling friends ...

You'd rather put your "best perimeter defender" on Ray Allen, who still kicked ass, over Rajon Rondo, who averaged a triple-double FOR THE SERIES?

The majority of the time when Hinrich played, he did so with Rose and Gordon. Pierce, Rondo, and Allen made up the bulk of the Celtics minutest at the 1,2, and 3. I'd want Gordon and Rose guarding the least threatening offensive players at that time.

I don't have anyway of proving who Hinrich was guarding the majority of the time. When I watched the games it appeared he was guarding everyone from Pierce, Allen to Rondo. When he was in the game, he did, overall, a wonderful job of doing so.

I can live with your opinion. I just don't think mine is so outrageous, considering the way Rondo and Allen killed the Bulls while their "best defender" did nothing to stop them, coach's fault or otherwise.

Over there careers:

Kirk: 0.08 FT / min
Steve: 0.037 FT / min

Kirk is over twice as good at drawing fouls on the other team compared to Blake. That alone could have been huge in the Houston series this year, where we were struggling to find somebody other than Roy that could attack the defense.

I could live with Harry Potter if and ONLY if it is Blake and maybe Channing's non guaranteed deal for him..no Outlaw included

It's hard to say, though, whether he did or didn't do anything to stop them by looking at the stats. Hinrich played reserve minutes and spent time defending all three players (different amounts of time for each). Even if he defended them very well for the minutes he was on them, each of them (Rondo, Pierce and Allen) would have had enough minutes not being defended by Hinrich to go off.

Personally, I don't think the numbers put up by Allen, Rondo and Pierce for the games tell us how Hinrich did defensively. Unless we can find their numbers for the minutes Hinrich was on them, opinions will basically have to the province of what each person witnessed while watching the series.

My own impression was that Hinrich did a very nice job making his defensive assignment work hard for points and those three players had a lot more trouble scoring against him.

I don't see it, at least in terms of stopping a Rondo or Brooks. Oh well, let's see what happens. If they don't trade for Hinrich, I guess my world is closer to to Pritchard's than yours.

Dang it. I didn't think of that point. :)

Many of us commented, especially during the Houston series, that the Blazers needed more toughness.

I like the Hinrich/Joel comparison, Kirk may not be a huge upgrade over Blake in terms of offensive stats and he is no Rubio/Sessions, etc. in regard to pure PG ability but he is solid and, IMO, brings better defense and just as important, brings much more toughness to the team - a degree of nastiness I believe the Blazers needs.

I'm not going to whoop over such a move, but I believe it is an upgrade.

Blake played the entire Houston series with a RIGHT shoulder that required surgery after the season ended and has sidelined him this summer. Let's at least give him some credit for being tough over a guy (Hinrich) who missed 32 games this year. If tough is what you want, to not give Blake credit is almost unfair.

Different toughness, I'll give Blake toughness for playing through pain/injury but he isn't tough as in someone willing to go head-to-head with opponents; Hinrich is; enforcer type toughness, not toughing it out toughness.

Really? Hinrich is an enforcer? How so? Blake has been undervalued his entire collegiate/NBA career, yet he won an NCAA title and PG'd the Blazers to the second-best record in the West. How do you know Hinrich is tougher than Blake? Is it his lack of starting this year?

I think it will be Outlaw.

Maybe add #22 and #33 for #16 as well.

That "writer" also said that OKC acquiring the 14th pick from the Suns. (No word on this at all yet)

As well as...
Blazers are willing to pay Andre Miller 10-12 mill to start. . .interesting . . .

I don't think Chicago would do that.

They are pretty motivated to get under the tax threshold. HInrich and Thomas makes a lot of sense for that package. Hinrich and 16 a little less, but maybe there is cash involved.

hinrich and 16 makes more sense for portland especially if they can get blair there.

and with blake and outlaw not being guaranteed, that helps the bulls shed salary if they let them walk.

I am not the world's greatest TT fan - but he is more likely to be a productive backup PF than anyone we would take at #16 for the next year or two. The big issue, of course - is will he be re-signed?

But, he can always be used down-the-line as a trade chip.

Personally, I would prefer a Kirk + 16 than Kirk + TT - but for the short-term - it is not that big of a deal.

If you don't like Travis Outlaw then I don't think you will like Tyrus Thomas. Tyrus is actually a bigger bonehead than Travis.

I've read on another board that the Lakers are trading for Hinrich. Just sayin...

It's probably Hinrich for Blake and Outlaw.

If Bulls don't do a follow up involving Deng or Salmons, they'd probably just cut Outlaw I'd assume. If Tyrus Thomas is involved, I think it would probably be in a three way with the Suns. Otherwise, at the very least, Bayless or Fernandez would be coming back Chicago's way.

I think TT is Travis's negative - he is Travis Outlaw with a defensive game and sporadic offense. Travis is Tyrus Thomas with an offensive game and sporadic defense. I get the feeling that Travis is less full of himself and thus probably a better locker-room guy - but there are reasons to agree with your assessment. TT is not the smartest basketball player on the court... at any given moment...

For the record - I like Travis a lot - and would rather have Webster go out in such a trade - but since Chicago's intent seems to be cutting salary - I doubt this would happen.

I'd be pretty pissed at the Blazers if we dealt Fernandez to get TT.

Something interesting I pulled from RealGM:

This isn't to say that Kirk Hinrich isn't being traded. However, sources close to me have confirmed that several recent rumors floated about the Hinrich situation are complete fabrications.

The first is that Kirk Hinrich told friends that he expects to be traded to Portland. Kirk said no such things to his friends. Either Adrian Wojnarowski pulled it out of thin air, or one of Kirk's "friends" did, but there's no truth to the rumor.

The second rumor is that the Trailblazers are concerned about Kirk's character. Kirk knows Kevin Pritchard well since they both played basketball for Kansas. The idea that Pritchard has character questions about Hinrich is ridiculous.

Doesn't mean that there isn't a trade coming, but that friends rumor may not be true after all. This, of course, is still more RUMINT.
