"Nut job kids" might be the most offensive thing posted in a while. There are children out there who have severe mental disabilities.
That should be put away for the rest of their natural life. Our brains are like computers. You don't leave a shitty problematic computer in service at air traffic control and we shouldn't let malfunctioning psychos run around freely. Common sense.

This murderer should never be free. Should never be trusted. Crying and screaming he's sorry isn't good enough.

When you do something I don't like, I'll make sure to correct it by punching you in the face.

If you can't teach kids that there are consequences for their actions without hitting them, then you're probably a bad parent.
It's not hitting. You dont punch your kid. Not being able to tell the difference between hitting and correcting is the problem. Liberals dont get what they want and they throw a fit. See the recent government shut down. This behaviour is a result of not having a black grandma to slap the shit out of you when you threw a fit in the store when they told you no candy.

No mommy was progressive. As the child threw a fit mommy stood in line, and allowed the child his artistic freedom to express himself by knocking all the candy off the shelves. "It's ok hunny," she says to her beta cuck husband, "that's why they have mexicans to pick it up." Now mommy can think about more important things, like not shaving her arm pits and being more natural.

Not a popular opinion, but I hate organized religion. I don't judge people for what they believe in, but when they start to believe that others need ti believe what they believe, it irks me.

Therefore, how is religion important to society?
You prefer unorganized religion?

Only 3 minutes......please watch.

I'm not a gun nut, don't like them and have never owned one. Couldn't watch more than 30 seconds of that clip. There are plenty of reasons to have guns besides "fuck it I like it"

I agree he should be put away. He should also have had access to mental care. This country is not addressing the root of the problems. He's not a nut job. He's a boy who has a severe mental illness, either caused by trauma or just born that way.

Locking him up is something you have to do now, but maybe, just maybe, he could have been helped

Maybe. At what point in medical advancement could society trust a kid like that? You could get every current expert to say he's cured and I still wouldn't let him out.

See that's unfortunate you didn't watch it. Because he said if you keep a gun in a gun safe, it's no longer there for your protection. Anybody breaking into your house to "kill" you wouldn't let you take the time to go unlock the safe and get it. It actually was funny. He also said they need to change the name to Protection Rifle and not Assault Rifle.

I've seen it before. Watching it for a political opinion isn't an option.

The second amendment doesn't say to keep and bare arms in a gun safe.

Not only that there are plenty of times you could get to your gun safe before a criminal got to you. My mom's friend had a dog that never barked. They heard it bark one night and the husband got his gun from the safe and caught the guy. Held him at gunpoint.

See, the dog NEVER barked. It barked a time or two. Not even enough to scare the guy off. Just enough to alert the owner.

I'm telling you these shooter types needed an ass kicking. It would humble them so they don't go to their school with a shotgun pretending they're the the fucking Punisher.

Highly controversial, but I believe he does have a valid point which could speak to the importance of religion to society. It’s a relatively new development that religion has been out of the class room.

Hell even the pledge of allegiance, which is much more recent...I remember stating the pledge of allegiance when I was in school. It’s all liberal arts free choice with very few lessons of discipline in today’s world. Somewhere along the line we redefined what constituted as too much discipline, and now you’d probably be fired if you even joked about whipping your students.
I spent 12 years in Catholic schools throughout the entire 60’s and early 70’s. We had a lot of religion thrown at us, and while I don’t currently consider myself to be of any particular denomination, the foundation I received has been priceless. We were given structure and discipline the public schools legally weren’t allowed to provide. “Punishment” was only meted out in severe cases and was, almost without exception deserved. And if it didn’t always have the desired effect on the miscreant, it served as ample warning for the rest of the class to behave. In high school the Phys Ed teacher had a wooden paddle he used to smack the (bare!!! Do I qualify for “Me Too”???) butts of the guys who cursed or otherwise misbehaved. It wasn’t the sting of the paddle that kept us in line, it was the humiliation of the punishment (news of which would be throughout the entire school before we had even showered and dressed). And any punishment administered was tacitly approved by the parents, with few if any exceptions. It was considered just another tool in the tool box.

The nuns, priests and brothers who taught us were, in general “social justice warriors” (in the very best use of the term) who did their best to instill in us respect, social awareness and racial equality. They weren’t perfect but my memory is that, with few exceptions they were a cut above (Make all the pedophile priest jokes you want. You’d be wrong....). I still remember when the words “under God” were eliminated from the Pledge of Allegiance. It was a shock to a young kid whose education was wrapped around religion and I wondered how a nation could succeed by booting God out of its’ structure. And I can’t help but wonder if, in 2018 the chickens have finally come home to roost because of those decisions by our government and a few disgruntled (and faithless) squeaky wheels. Because if there is one thing that has become exceedingly clear it’s that America in general is becoming a more Godless place, and the right wing evangelical hypocrites only make the problem worse by being anything but “Christian”. Any country that proudly proclaims, “I’ve got mine, now fuck everybody else” certainly doesn’t truly believe in a higher power......While I do not advocate religion in public schools, I strongly support some sort of moral and ethical code be taught and enforced, and that corporal punishment (within strict limits) be reintroduced. What we have now certainly isn’t working.......Right now our public schools are no more than minimal supervision holding pens for adolescents who have nothing better to do and no place else to go.

It's funny to me they want to strip God out of school but in prison they issue bibles cause they think it will help.

I worked with the Gideons for a while...in most cases, it's not the the "state issues them", it's that the "state (or hotel) allows people to donate them, and makes them available)" (whether through prison issue or in your nightstand or something).

And some people do get help from them. If only one does, it's kind of worth it to those folks.

Nice contribution UCD!

But at the risk of detracting from your message, and I hope I don't. I have to wonder how you and I have such different memories of the Pledge of Allegiance?

I remember when the words, "under God" were added to the pledge, in 1954 I think. I thought it was a mistake to do it as it muted the meaning of the pledge with a commingling of the allegiance. The pledge was originally to the concept of united States by individuals of independent States regardless of their relationship with God.` The Atheist, Christian, Jew, Buddhist could all pledge allegiance to our Country. These words have not been removed, have they? Did I miss this?

Wow, now I’m confused. As I recall, “under God” was removed from the Pledge late in my grade school years. Yet I can find no reference to support that anywhere. I just remember it was a big deal and we went along with it. Supposedly it had to do with separation of church and state. But I haven’t heard the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance for decades......

From Wiki

"The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag—"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."[10]—should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute. Members of the Armed Forces not in uniform and veterans may render the military salute in the manner provided for persons in uniform.[2]

I wish you were right! Not for separation of church and state, but for clarity. Trying to get double duty out of one pledge makes it hard for some people and unclear to others. And perhaps all do not need to pledge our nation is under God. That is not really within the power of an individual to pledge anyway.

We said under God in the 80s and 90s

I guess but what are the odds that the few nutty kids that would do such a thing wouldn't stab mom or dad and steal the gun anyway?

I don't think there's any easy answer but a nutjob kid could get a kitchen knife easy enough.

We could pass laws all day but would it really help?
There is no “fix”. There are just steps to lessen the number of nut jobs who get ahold of guns and steps to lessen the numbers killed when the nut jobs go on a spree. If we have 50% fewer NJ’s getting guns and those that do kill 50% fewer kids, that’s a win although we will still have tragedies.

I worked in a jail. When someone goes to supermax they are allowed hygiene items and guess what? Religious reading material only. Now i get that religious material cant be taken via constitution. But i wonder why prisons and jails want them to read tge stuff. Perhaps, just maybe, when you realize you arent the most powerful being in the universe, you get humbled just a bit. Everyone has a god, for some it's their ego. For some, money.

Well, it seems you already answered your question.

Jesus will have a tough time having any impact on society with you on board.
Why does everyone need to believe in the same shit? Why is religion important to society? You didnt answer the question.

Sure I did. If you hate it.

But I did ask myself that very same question once. It took six years to answer to my satisfaction. No quick solution to the question,
it takes much reading and much thought too. I don't think anyone else can do it for you. I wish you well and hope you like the answer you find.

At this point I'm questioning whether you have an answer. It's not important. It's divisive.
