During Sports Sunday Canzano said that he has talked to a few execs and said that if this team lands a huge impact player in this draft (Durant/Rose/etc.-like) that it would reinvigorate Paul Allen's interest to make another run.

There is only one player in this draft that would be that impact player. He wouldn't be that right away but he's going to be a huge defensive impact when he puts on weight.

Ah, to hope. But hey, after what this franchise has been through we deserve a little luck.

now the question is.... if we get lets say the 4.... and the 8 or so? is that enough to move up to number one? Granted it depends on the team... but is it worth it and is it enough?

If you could move up and get the number one, I'd trade Aldridge for someone like Wall.

wizards just got nene i don't think they'd trade for aldridge... i know you said someone like wall but just saying...

Nene is nowhere near as good as Aldridge..... but I'm not sure they'd want Aldridge in his prime with nobody else around him. The trade doesn't make sense for them. Rondo actually does.

If POR wins the lotto and I'm Anthony Davis, I'm going back to UK for soph year or covering myself in bubble wrap for a long, long time.

I don't think Sean Deveney is the only person who thinks that way ... players in particular can tend to be very superstitious folks and I'll bet there are more than a couple of bigs in this draft who genuinely dread the idea of getting drafted by Portland.

Everybody says that this is a great draft. It may be a DEEP draft, but if Anthony Davis is the prize, it's a bit light at the top. In 2003 he would have been about 5th or 6th pick, tops.

[And please, no "not bad for a 10 year old!" jokes.]

its amazing to think that we have a legitimate shot at two game changers, now all we need is a little luck

I haven't paid much attention to this draft class. Someone told me that the top 5 draft prospects are game changers. Is that true?

not really, its a deep draft, but no clear mvp types at the top imo

I think Indy is going to get him.

crap, he has the height for sg almost too

whats your picks for the zurs if we get around #5 and #10 right now nik? i think some combo of lamb/barnes and sullinger/robinson would make me fucking cream my fucking jeans

Probably not, but I think there are maybe multiple future all-star types in this draft (3-6?)

im not as enamored with davis as most but yeah, i could see him, lamb or barnes becoming all stars, maybe robinson, maybe drummond, and depending on the system, rivers

Hmmm ... I don't know I guess it all depends on who is actually available. So assuming Draftexpress.com's 2012 mock is something to go by. and Givony has us taking Barnes at #6 and Terrence Jones at #11 I think that gives the Blazers a pretty athletic and long (if a little bit light?) team moving forward with the following starting lineup:

PG: TBD
SG: Nicolas
SF: Barnes
PF: Jones
C: LMA

That looks less than ideal on paper, but maybe if the Blazers can get some help in free agency to shore up some holes it could be doable?

If we got all the stars to align, I'd like to see this team draft Drummond at #5 and then take Bradley Beal around #10 ... lots of "ifs" between now and that happening though.

Andre Drummond looks like he could be a better prospect than Anthony Davis imo. He has the physical makeup of Dwight but faster and quicker. Of course, he doesn't have Dwight's defensive presence, but he's only 18 or 19.

But with that said, I doubt Drummond drops to 5. A team will draft him in the top 3, book it.

I think Perry Jones has a higher ceiling than anybody else in this draft, but he seems to be climbing the draft boards.

He was actually dropping throughout the year. He reminds me a Anthony Randolph. If he were there in the early teens sure, but not at 5-10

I see more of a Lamar Odom, because Jones can handle the ball and create his own offense. Maybe a taller version of a Rudy Gay?

Not much shorter though. Jones is a legit 6'9"

Yep.

Regardless, of the players considered lottery picks, or around the lottery, only a few players names could be called that I would be pissed about.

1. Tyler Zeller - White center
2. Cody Zeller - White center
3. Myers Leonard - White center
4. Bradley Beal - Short SG
5. Damian Lillard - Too slow for PG

I wonder if Sean Deveney has heard of Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge? LA had a heart scare his rookie year that kept him out a while, but in the 5 seasons since he's only missed 12 games. Coming out of college the former #2 pick was listed as taller and heavier then Anthony Davis

If Portland were to win the lotto and select AD, I'd assume that Davis would be on the high post with LA primarily down on the low block. Anthony will have to put on some weight to hold his ground vs 4s or 5s, but thats probably just a matter of time.... they'd seem to be a great combo

I think because he is a center. Martin, Walton, Bowie, Oden. Not the best track record for taking centers that high. It was a great line by Deveney, and one that was repeated during the Kentucky game over the weekend

I have a solution. Portland will now have two power-forwards from this point to infinity and beyond.
