Hopefully some of y'all can quit dogging Terry MF Stotts now

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

We're one of the last 4 teams playing, without out franchise center. I know we have great players, but I'll take Stotts over anyone else currently available. He's done a great job this season, we're in the Western Conference Finals guys.

Literally, anyone else currently available would HAVE NOT employed the strategy to let Steph and Klay shoot uncontested shots all night.

But are you 100% certain that "literally, anyone else currently available" would have got us to the Western Conference Finals? I'm 100% sure that Terry Stotts did.

I’m pro-Stotts, yeah he has a lot of faults but he’s an upper level NBA coach. I mean, if we missed the playoffs and fired him this season hypothetically, he’d have been hired by the Lakers the minute Walton was fired.

If by upper level you mean 14th out of 30 than I totally agree! :)

Outside of Pop, Bud, Stevens, Kerr, Carlisle, and Spoelstra who is better?

Seriously wanted Bud when he was leaving Atlanta. I think @BonesJones was of the same ilk. He was available and Stotts was coming off another Playoff sweep. I also think Messina would be quite good. As for who is 'better', someone who doesn't let Curry shoot practice shots all game comes to mind.

John Beilein.. seriously though I like Terry just don't think he's great enough to get us to the next level. Always been of the opinion that defense wins championships.

Stotts 'coached' us to the #3 seed? He tried to get the #4 seed by sitting out top 9 players in the Final game and then Simons went out and messed that up.

'Almost everyone' forgot that OKC hadn't won a series without Durant.....ever. Non-Spock memories.

And I'm not 'trashing' him. Many people (me included) are pointing out VERY legitimate questions as to why you would defend 2 of the best shooters in the league with that type of defensive game plan. Seems like an extremely legit query to me.
OKC had only played 2 series without Durant. Not a big sample size. And if it weren’t for Stotts’ coaching, that streak would’ve ended at 2.

I don't disagree with that at all. I didn't expect Portland to win this game or the series. HOWEVER......a coach's job is to put his players in the best position to win and by Stotts doing what he did, they did not have that opportunity. Blazers winning games because CJ gets hot or Dame hits a 37'er is not coaching. Coaching is about schemes, adjustments (Stotts rarely makes them) and relationship. Stotts is good at relationships. I don't see much from the other two areas.

I've said this before. It's not that Portland lost. It's more about HOW they lost.

And we should definitely not keep a coach because the players have a good relationship with him. Giannis was frustrated when Kidd was fired, look where Giannis is now.

Not saying fire him for nobody though. There needs to be a solid replacement if so. After all he has been successful this year, but I believe he owes way much to Dame and CJ for it. Team is at the bottom 5 for assists per game consistently.

Lets fire the coach that has gotten our team to the WCF for the first time since 2000. Portland fans....
It's the way fans are after any loss in the playoffs. Just wait and read if they lose game two.

For several years now, people have said our shortcoming is lack of talent. I've long been of the opinion that we have plenty of talent to be competitive. We've been held back by two things: lack of compatible talent and inflexible coaching. The first one appears to be sorting itself out this year, resulting in some playoff success. The second one may have gotten worse.

The messed up thing is that this WCF appearance will buy Terry/Neil even more time. Expecting status quo this summer.

Here is Neil speaking about this summer:

“As of today, we have limited tools at our disposal,” he said. “Maybe there are some cap gymnastics we can pull off to create some more cap flexibility. That’s an offseason conversation. But also, it’s a fair bargaining. These guys came in here, one without Bird rights and the other on a buyout for a pro-rated minimum, and these guys capitalized on it. God bless them,

“That’s how this is supposed to work. They’re giving us a chance to win and we’re giving them a platform to showcase themselves prior to their unrestricted free agency.

“Look, if we can pull something off, we will try our best to pull it off but if not, then our job is to go out and find other versions of them next summer.”

So this is it. No big fish hunting for us.

Oh boy, some of these quotes from Quick's piece are damning of Terry. https://theathletic.com/978888/2019...-and-looking-toward-terry-stotts-for-answers/

“We can’t sit back and wait,” Harkless said. “We don’t have that luxury, not against a team like this.”

The points of emphasis Wednesday will be the Blazers’ defense, in particular, the ease and the space in which Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were able to shoot, and ways to free up the burden on Lillard, who was once again muffled by an opponent’s kitchen-sink tactic.

The gist of the Blazers’ disgust and frustration from Game 1 resides in this: Why was it so easy for Golden State to double Lillard, but so hard for Portland to take away space or make things tough on Curry or Thompson?

“We let our stars get doubled, and let any other star go olly olly oxen free,” Turner said.

“It’s hard enough to get them to switch the pick-and-roll defense,” Turner said. “That’s something I’ve been questioning for three years.”

“I hope so,” CJ McCollum said when asked if the Blazers could all of the sudden start trapping. “I hope so. It looked like it was easy when they were doing it.”

“I feel like we can make it more tough on Steph in the pick-and-roll, for sure,” Harkless said. “Whether that be trapping or whether that be playing up a little bit more, we have to do something, because he can’t come off and get three, four clean looks like that.”

That’s when Turner piped in that the Blazers might have to look at playing a small lineup more often.

“Yeah, we might have to go small on they ass,” Harkless said. “Start ET at the five.”

Harkless chuckled, indicating he was joking about using Turner at the five, but his point was made: The Blazers’ defense was too soft, as in allowing too much space.

But later, he revealed that softness might include more than defense.

“It’s tiring,” he admitted afterward. “But that’s part of it. You get attention. I mean, it’s clear they are trying to take me out.”

It’s similar to what he saw against Denver when the Nuggets sent two defenders up high — near the logo — to cut him off and try to get him to give up the ball.

“You are going to be tired. I just played seven games where they were sending bodies at me,” Lillard said. “OKC was sending bodies at me, but the floor was just more open. And today, it was worse than Denver. There were three people guarding me.”

Lillard said he had already talked to Stotts and scheduled a film session so they could devise a plan.

“Just to see how I can break free just a little bit,” Lillard said. “If I can just break free a little bit, get some space to get a quality shot. Because they are loading up and not letting me be the one (to beat them). They don’t want me to get a shot up. Like, you see tonight, I didn’t even get that many attempts up because I couldn’t get a shot up. They wouldn’t allow me.”

“We just have to figure it out,” Lillard said. “The easy thing to do is for people to say, ‘Dame has to do this, Dame has to do that.’ But there’s nothing there. So we just have to watch the film and figure out where I can get some better opportunities.”

Wait wait wait.

Dame had to "SCHEDULE" a film session with Terry? WTF is this madness? The star has to take time out to ask for a special extra film review? In the fucking conference finals?

Why did Terry not do that first?

And Moe's suggestion of ET at the 5 is something I'd seriously consider. I hope these guys bring it up to our clueless coach. That would seriously allow us to switch everything and blow up their P&Rs. We don't need rim protection in this series.

Those are some fairly damning quotes of the game plan. They may make some changes but it is so reactionary. It shouldn't have been the game plan in the first place. Tough to give props in Game 2 to Stotts if he makes the completely obvious adjustments. I guess some 'stubbornness' props might be due but where was even a simple adjustment at halftime?

Now, if they make changes and Curry still 9 ridiculous '3's against a good defensive game plan, then hats off to Steph. But at least make him work harder than he does in pre-game warm ups.

Dame said as much postgame when he said Steph and Klay were getting practice shots.

That's in line with what the announcers said during the game about the Blazers flying straight from Denver, not practicing Monday, and not having time for a shoot-around Tuesday because of the "early" 6pm start. Huh? What are they doing all day that keeps them from being able to move things up 90 minutes to, you know, prepare for the game?

The one thing that kept Stotts in his job was Dame and other players had his back to the point they might riot if he was fired but if this continues then the player while they may LIKE Stotts they will finally go to NeO and say this -- "We like Stotts as a man and he has done a good job but maybe it's time for a change if we want to get a ring " --- hopefully NeO listens IF this happens cause i think we are seeing Stotts last stand if he cannot bounce back.
