How about having CDR start at the 2, and moving VC to the 3 spot?

I personally would love to see CDR in the starting lineup. He reminds me a little bit of Rip Hamilton with his body type, and his scoring efficiency... This would no doubt give us a high scoring trio of players in the 1-2-3 positions, and with the improvement up front I think this might work out better than the trio of JKidd-VC-RJ just becuase of the fact that the former trio was stuck with scrubs b/c they took up the entire salary cap...
A starting lineup of DHarris, CDR, VC, Lopez, and Boone is better than DHarris, VC, Simmons, Yi, and Lopez IMO...

Lets see if he keeps this up a month into the regular season, against (and in) regular rotations before we talk about starting him.

I agree we need to use the preseason to fully evaluate.

The other thing to consider is how you want to balance rotations off the bench. If Frank is going to play 10 guys in roughly 2 5-man groups, it might very well be preferable to bring CDR off the bench so that he can be a focal point offensively with the second unit. That might be better for his short term growth than starting with both VC and Harris where his touches and shots will be lower.

I'm far less concerned with who starts with this team than I am with who finishes. There's no way CDR will shoot that well every game, but if he's up over 45% a month into the season and is playing this poised and this well all around, he will see his fair share of late 4th quarter minutes against teams that are not big at the 3.

This is a little off topic, but that's how I have my NBA 2k9 set up. Harris/CDR/Carter/Yi/Williams as starters. However, Lopez is getting good at Center with his sheer size.

hehe i tried to trade carter but he wont waive his no trade clause!!! argh!!! haha i love VC :)

I'd love CDR to come off the bench. Instant energy. Instant offensive threat.

i want him and Yi to actually come off the bench... and have anderson start... because CDR and Yi can be the main scorers in the 2nd unit?!?! huh?!?! hehe or u can start Yi and let anderson and CDR be the main scorers

I thought Kobe was the only player in the NBA with a no-trade clause in his contract... no?

Probably be better to bring him off the bench. Instant offense baby!!!!

in nba 2k9 kidd and carter both have no trade clause ^^

cdr is defintely coming off the bench. we have no wing fire power after harris and carter leave the game.

knowing lawrence frank the first unit is carter, harris, simmons,yi,boone.

with cdr,dooling,najera,swat,anderson. the second unit.

yes lopez is going too take a little bit to get into the rotation. with boone and swat taking most of the center minutes.

I'm guessing the Nets make the move near midseason to move CDR into the starting squad. Having VC, Devin and CDR out there together often could be huge. All three can penetrate quickly and are capable of making good passes & drawing fouls..both of which can lead to 3pt plays. Having Yi out there with them would really spread the court, and hopefully Boone's shot is decent enough so he can excel too.

I think if Lopez and Yi start and show some promise and production offensively, than perhaps it would be better to bring CDR off the bench for some instant offense scoring punch. But if Yi and Lopez don't produce then the Nets will struggle with Simmons starting and CDR will be needed in the starting lineup for his offense and ability to just make things happen.

I am for CDR coming off the bench. Who knows what Frank will do.

I am for:
Harris, VC, Yi, Williams, Lopez. where Yi and Williams switch on the defensive side.

Second Unit
Dooling, CDR, Anderson, Najera, Boone.

I really dont care if simmons plays or not. If he can come off the bench and score 10 pts cool, but I am not expecting much from him. I just wish his contract was done at the end of this year. Hayes will contribute. Swift is a waste to me. Hassel should only be there for defensive purposes and to rest the SG/SF for a few minutes. If frank pulls a Hassel at PF, I think it will be a long season.

Welcome to S2! If you have any questions, PM me. :)

CDR off the bench would be ideal. A scoring trio of CDR-Yi/Anderson-Lopez sounds good to me, especially with Keyon and Boone holding down the defense.

At this stage, that's pretty much how I see it too. I think you'll see Lopez in that second unit at times for either Swat or Anderson. A lot depends on how Yi does next game.

again, there will always be two players hurt at all times, and two players will just suck and get knocked out of the rotation.

Projecting minutes on the assumption that everyone is healthy, and everyone plays up (or down) to expectations is silly to me.

I would have thought everyone would have learned their lesson from the experiences of the past three years!

It's just too early to talk about putting cdr in starting unit.
Everyone need to realize it was preseason game.
Remember kristic hit 5-5 including 3 pointer in preseason game?
I need to see him at least a month or two to even consider him as starting unit.

Fully agreed. Preseason means nothing.

How does preseason mean nothing? Because other players have done well in preseason and not well in the regular season? Maybe because the opportunity or drive to succeed wasn't there.

Fact is that CDR knows this offense as well if not better than anyone else on the Nets. He proved it on Thursday by slicing to the lane at will and did great things...he scored and made a few nice passes for buckets, the way the offense was designed. This was without VC on the floor to distract the defense as well.

It's too early to get a jersey but it definitely ain't too early to get excited.

i dont think its not so much he knew the offense... but what he does when he has the ball... i think his ability to break down defenders is cuz of his own personal skill and ability then the play designed... im not sayin the play has nothin to do with it but its more of CDR than FRANK :P

The reason he's so effective and will continue to be effective is because he's 6'7 playing the 2 guard spot and athletic to boot. He can keep a defender honest with his jump shot making him able to get in the lane, where most of the time the opposing team's 2-guard wont be able to defend those floaters and posts. Let alone the fact that he can hit fade-away jumpers somewhat consistantly (and im basing this off his college game) makes him a hard player to cover.

I have NBA 09 LIVE and I have Harris/Carter/CDR/Willams/Lopez and they made it to the playoffs. Dynasty mode.

I wouldnt mind CDR starting but I would much rather him give us some energy off the bench. I like the starting lineup of Harris, Carter, Simmons, Yi and Lopez/Boone. I think CDR, Boone, Dooling, Anderson, SWill, Najera, Hayes, and Swift make a pretty solid bench! right?? And also, I like CDR too but it was only one preseason game! lol

Keep in mind that if CDR is the focal point of the offense for the 2nd unit, the other team's best defender on the floor will be guarding him. In that case, don't expect him to be that great. He's just a rookie, after all, and good NBA defenders can stop him.

Also, don't get overexcited because of one preseason game (I think that's been made pretty clear in this thread).

I think CDR would be better off as the 3rd or 2nd option on offense, since the defense wouldn't collapse on him. Playing with Carter or Harris will probably make him more efficient and more effective. He should play most of his minutes as the 2nd/3rd option, but maybe Frank can give him some minutes as the go-to guy as well in order for him to experience that situation early in his career.

Hey, let's see how CDR defends the other team's starting 2's and 3's before we pull Simmons and Hayes. That's what makes the difference between a starter and a sub.
