To play devils advocate I stopped reading when you said both teams are playing to not get injured. I played enough baseball to know that an injury in baseball outside maybe over use of a starter is a freak incident.

Now this is exactly the kind of thing that i would never bet on. Yankees vs Red Sox is as iconic of a series as there ever was. Currently the Yankees are the betting favorites so if you are betting putting your money on the Red Sox will get you more if they win.
This is to win the WS. As you can see the Phillies and Dodgers are a toss up pretty much. Right now Vegas is against you. Probably because of home field advantage.

I too have played baseball and freak incidents happen all the time.

I also agree they should do a bullpen by committee too.

The games don't matter. Just hope for no injuries. That was my point.

I’ve got an autographed Ichiro ball from his rookie season. 1 of only 2 pieces of baseball paraphernalia I own. The other is a Subway Series World Series ball. Had to have been from like 2000? Whatever balls aren’t used in the previous season’s WS….. they are distributed out to all the teams for batting practice. While on my lunch break watching the guys hit, one zipped right by my head. Snatched it and threw it in my pocket!

For playoffs, id venture to guess they make it more often than not, but with the advent of the wild card (and 3rd wild card), more and more just getting in is good enough and lower paying teams can scrap to a world series.

I use to be a big believer in that money got you far (a world series) but lately it just hasnt nearly at the clip I thought itd be at.

But just straight playoffs, thats probably a 70ish% clip, if not higher, but id have to do more actual digging.

4 of the top 10 payrolls this season missed out on the playoffs, including the Mets who were #2 just behind the Dodgers. Yea it helps to have money but it's far from a guarantee that a team will win. Of teams that made playoffs this year you have Dodgers, Phillies, Yankees, Cubs, Padres and Toronto all in the top 7 of payrolls but also Boston (11), Seattle (12), Detroit (14), Milwaukee (17 and best record in MLB), Cincy (19) and Cleveland (26).

So par for the course for pretty much every team in a 162 game season? We have had bad hitting stretches, but we had 20 games where we were on fire. 3 games not being able to is standard. Ill take that beautiful 20 game sample size all day.
