How much will Shabazz get?

I don't think you can bring up Tim Frazier and Brian Roberts (who were 3rd, emergency PGs) in reference to Shabazz, who's the backup...without also bringing up Jarrett Jack (still in the L, as a 34 y/o making 2M+ as a NYK backup); Jerryd Bayless (making $9M as a 76ers backup); Patty Mills (already mentioned, making 11M+ as a part-time starter in SAS); Jamal Crawford (making 15M this year between his ATL buyout and being a backup in MIN)...Mo Williams even played 2 more years in the L...

Blazer backup PGs have seemed to do ok for themselves, both in cash flow and longevity. In the non-PG category, Luke Babbitt is still starting in the NBA. Like, now.

what? no Raymond Felton, Johnny Flynn, Nolan Smith, Armand Johnson on the list?

That is what the "..." is for, the ones I didn't put down. ;)

Fatty was probably a repressed memory. But even he still has a job

Of course Turner needs to go, but I struggled to find one team (MIN) that’d be interested in him. We’re not getting anything of value in return. May as well keep him, he’s still a really good (albeit extremely overpriced) defender.

Napier has more value to us as a trade piece than as the backup point guard.

One thing this coaching staff has shown is that they can develop guards. I’d love to see what Vanterpool could do with Baldwin.
not only would we get nothing 0f value for ET in a trade it would cost us a 1st rdr to dump him if it was for as expiring, or we'd have to take bad an equally bad contract, no easy way to get rid of ET I' afraid

And I answered it by saying Napier has more value as a trade piece than a backup.

I don’t know what Vonleh/Swanigan have to do with anything. I don’t see either one leaving. Swanigan is on a rookie scale contract. Vonleh will get his playing time back once Davis gets traded, which to me is just a matter of time. Unless of course we find a taker for Meyers.

Everything to do with it.
Making a decision on Vonleh/Swannigan, makes the other a trade pc.....

Keep up please...:)

Davis wont get traded, Meyers will....

So I’ve done a little research on Denver and it’s been reported that they’ve tried to trade Mudiay. Would he be someone of interest for Olshey? He fits the philosophy Neil has talked about when targeting players in trades. Young guys that may have fallen down a depth chart that they liked in the draft process. Mudiays competitiveness probably appealed to Neil, question is would he be worth pursuing? He’s not much of a shooter, and we already have a similar prospect in Baldwin. I guess I answered my own question. Still seems like the type of opportunity Neil looks for. If not Mudiay, Beasley definitely should interest him.

When did Olshey say that? If he did, every new veteran here will feel insulted. Link?

I think we need to trade Bazz because we can't afford to pay him and he deserves to start somewhere. If we can get a 1st for him we have to do it. I would still hit up NYK and see what their interest is in him and Moe and how likely they are to give up a 1st for either of them.

Mudiay and Beasley definitely fit what he’s talking about, but it’s anyones guess how high or low he was on either one. If I had to bet, I’d say he liked both.

because we can't afford to pay him
I don't think people realize just how much money Paul Allen has....he can buy another submarine or pay a luxury tax...and write off the loss on his taxes....he's not a wage worker trying to make his money stretch

Rich people don’t stay rich but mindlessly throwing around money, which is what I’d describe paying luxury tax on a team hovering around .500.

rich people write off losses...some buy failing businesses just to avoid taxes....Paul Allen will never go broke..I always thought it silly to think guys like him were sweating the luxury tax...in fact, they're really not..

I didn’t mean he was going to go broke, I meant hes not foolish with his money.

And how many tax paying teams are there? 5 if you include Portland. The others are legit playoff teams.

And if Allen didn’t care about luxury tax we wouldn’t have traded Crabbe for literally nothing, and we’d have a 15th man on the roster.

Olshey said he prefers to have a 14 man active roster...guy 15 just wears a suit anyway..with the two way contracts it's a plus to have an open spot

What else is he going to say; “we don’t want to pay any more than we already are?”

He's stated that money isn't an issue if it means winning now.....only here on this forum does it seem to be a panic issue...I never buy the line that Paul Allen ever sweats the cost of doing business no matter what he involves himself in...he gives away more money than he'd pay in tax for the Blazer payroll.

Actions speak louder than words and every action in the past year has hinted towards not being a luxury tax paying team. So unless they make a move that changes that, I’ll continue to assume they’re in salary cut mode.

He's in rebuilding mode....if he was in win now mode, it wouldn't be an issue...moving Crabbe had more to do with lack of production from Crabbe than money...if Crabbe was a true 2 way option, he'd probably be starting for the Blazers this season...addition by subtraction...moving Crabbe opened the door to go after Paul George and Melo...didn't pan out but they took a shot at it

Nurk trade
Crabbe trade
Trading 15 and 20 for 10
Not using the MLE
14 players

These are all cost cutting moves.

He's in rebuilding mode.

Exactly, so you agree he’s not going to pay the luxury tax? So what are you even arguing? That he would if we were a contender? I never doubted that.

So what are you even arguing?
uh....opinions aren't necessarily arguments y'know? Clearly my opinion is that the luxury tax is not an issue if it means you're getting Lebron to Paul Allen...but Allen Crabbe is no Lebron....Will Barton got moved ....we're in the middle of a rebuild...the money gets shuffled as the talent improves...just their process...the way I see it..they're developing two G league combo guards...two young centers and two young power forwards...on rookie deals...after they test drive them, they'll decide on who to move and who to keep. Meanwhile they will try and improve through trades...our problem is our trade pieces have lost some value early this season except for Meyers

Oh ok so you were having a separate conversation. Cool cool.

How else do you pay Melo or Paul George? They tried to get both of them and needed roster spots...to me it was a simple tactic..and now they're in plan B mode...I fully expect to see us make trades soon

or pay some luxury tax but they needed roster spots to pull it off

What are you even talking about? Do you even know at this point? “would’ve needed roster spots to pull it off.” What does that even mean?

I know the difference between a discussion and being baited...you either read an opinion and comment or question my cognitive skills.....you choose plan B...so be it....continue worrying about Paul Allen's bills if you like...I'm not going to

And I know when someone is talking just to talk. Good day.
