People don't realize how strong this thing is getting because it came out of nowhere to everyone except hurricane enthusiasts... Right now out looks like it'll be the strongest continental US hurricane landfall since Charlie in 2004 and Andrew in 1992.

I really wish my sister would get her family out. So far they still plan on riding it out. I'm worried for them.

This is where their house is, by the way.

They needed to get out... Might be too late now. We're talking about a 13ft of storm surge. I put this up before it was even a Tropical Depression so that others could notify relatives so they had time to evacuate.

Does she have a two story house? If not, her entire house could be underwater...

They are about 25 ft above sea level. I have been trying to convince them to leave, and they told me that if it becomes a Cat 4 then they would in the morning. They still have time though, and the traffic isn't bad and have several places to go that are either inland or much farther north. I don't like them risking it though.

@theprunetang They should take pictures of the outside and inside of their house for insurance purposes.

If the haven't, they should do so first thing tomorrow to be safe..

I assumed it was flat. That's not quite as bad. It's already a Cat 4, just gotta wait for the next update.

It's extremely dangerous to leave too late. With how this thing caught many people by surprise, you could have a ton of traffic.. there's a lot of roads out though. If she evacuate, where would she go?

Also, they are a little bit safer from storm surge on the bay side than they would be close to the gulf side, ie Panama City Beach. It sucks, because I lived there for over a year and have many many friends as well who live in that area including Panama City, Appalachicola, Port St Joe, Destin, etc.

They are only 2 and a half blocks from St Andrew's Bay, but there is about a 20 ft bank down to the beach level. They are also on a slight uphill slant.

There are a ton of large roads that head out of town. Also, not an extremely large population. We have family and friends all throughout the area. They could visit my other sister in S. Carolina, visit friends in Tennessee, family in Annapolis, Texas, Georgia, etc.

I'm unsure if the hillside has the chance of washing out or not.

Yeah, but man... the outer bands are reaching yu coastline right now. They have a short window as is...

This has a chance of being a Cat 5 at landfall...

Certain places down by Port St Jo could definitely be washed out. Mud and sand banks. The slope by her house is heavily wooded. The roots should hold the bank. My brother in law cut all dangerous branches near their property and boarded all windows already.

That's good.

But, I'm still trying to convince them to leave. She promised if it became a category 4 she would.

New update as of 11PM

130mph - Cat 4

She is actually more stubborn than I am. And that is saying something. ...
