You mean like Curry? Isn't he 4 years older than Dame?
I think Curry is 2 years older.

Within 5 years we were 15 points up heading into the fourth quarter of game 7 of the W
That trade was awful. The Blazers got a used up Yugo (Otis Thorpe) in return. It was Trader Bob going nuts with trades and free agency that built the majority of that WCF team. Bonzi Wells was a drafted player that panned out, and Jermaine O'Neal was rarely used before he was traded off for another used up Yugo(Dale Davis). Sabonis was drafted a decade earlier, but couldn't join the Blazers because of Soviet restrictions.Within 5 years we were 15 points up heading into the fourth quarter of game 7 of the WCF.
Thanks, I should have looked it up.I think Curry is 2 years older.
You always seem to be. I have hope. I'm optimistic. Especially with a new GM, whether he's interim or not. Plus I know that , yes ,Dame is battling with some things (health, new system). But i feel these are bumps in the road, not mountains that he can't scale. Athletes this loyal, to a place that's not Bright lights and big city lifestyle , are rare. Our next great talent, if we are so lucky to find that, may decide after his rookie deal, that he's outta here . I'd rather take my chances with building around Dame. Neil failed. Hopefully Joe succeeds.Prepare to be disappointed!
WORD!The Nets have Kevin Durant, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Lamarcus Aldridge, Paul Milsap Blake Griffin and Patty Mills....that's how you build a contender of vets around Dame....you get vets like we did with Carmelo....we need to trade young pieces for useable vets to build around Dame and not around rookies. We also probably need to go into luxury tax territory to do that. Otherwise you blow it up and blowing this team up when Dame is 31 is a big mistake and step backwards you might not recover from for a decade......I ain't got that kind of time....get Dame some vet help
OK: let's talk about Curry. You mean like Curry? Isn't he 4 years older than Dame?
*Correction* 2yrs difference
That's nothing: I could trade a bobby pin for plenty of houses in Flint, without any intermediate steps. We've lived in our house for over 20 years and it may finally be worth TWO bobby pins.
You've got it backwards: I'm never disappointed because I'm pessimistic. You always seem to be. I have hope. I'm optimistic.
Yes: the Nets have KEVIN DURANT, and we got Carmelo. That's the dilemma right there. The Nets have Kevin Durant, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Lamarcus Aldridge, Paul Milsap Blake Griffin and Patty Mills....that's how you build a contender of vets around Dame....you get vets like we did with Carmelo....
KD is our Dame.....Blake Griffin or Milsap is their Melo....not KDYes: the Nets have KEVIN DURANT, and we got Carmelo. That's the dilemma right there.
You forgot to mention Kwame Brown and Marc Gasol. Who's our Marc Gasol?Lakers rebuilt around Kobe when he was 32, traded Kwame Brown for Gasol and won a title...
Sigh. I hate to break it to you but Dame is no KD. Never was, and they appear to be heading in different directions right now.KD is our Dame.....Blake Griffin is their Melo....not KD
We are not Boston in this analogy. We are Minnesota. KG was loyal to Minny for years, they tried to build around him... they failed. Then they traded him to a contender and he won a title. Do Dame the same service.Boston built around Garnett when KG was 31... And won a title.
Hate to break it to you but if Dame bailed on OKC and joined Curry on the Warriors then Harden and a bunch of allstars on the Nets...he'd have a ring already....Dame is injured...KD came back from a big injury too...sorry...not buying the Dame buzzkill.....I won't kick him while he's down...he's got a lot of beasting left in his career...I hope he ends it in PortlandSigh. I hate to break it to you but Dame is no KD. Never was, and they appear to be heading in different directions right now.
Adding KD instantly makes you a contender. If adding Dame made you a contender, then we would've been a contender for the past decade.
Do you have a point? (It would be a first.)wonder who started this thread... oh wait.

Mavs kept overhauling their roster until they found the right combo of Chandler, Kidd, and Marion around him. Dirk was 33.These two propositions seem to be believed in tandem by the majority of Blazer fans:
But you can't make major changes WITHOUT trading Dame. Whom do you trade? Everybody has been saying trade CJ for years, but even before the playoffs (remember? Everybody wanted to unload CJ after the Denver series?) and this disastrous season, about the best we could get for him would have been Tobias Harris. Now it's probably Kevin Love.
- This roster can't contend so we have to make major changes
- You can't trade Dame
So, I get kind of depressed every time Dame insists (and now Cronin insists) that he's not going anywhere. I mean, I love the guy for it, but it's just sad watching him getting diminishing returns for his loyalty.
Chauncey wasn't the magic fix - if anything, he's worse than Stotts.
Cronin won't be the magic fix because we'd have to do the equivalent of finding a Giannis or a Jokic, in the low-ish lottery, and even then Dame will be 32 and with a nagging injury.
So: for God's sake talk him into being traded. We have to start again, and he needs to get a shot at at least a deep playoff run.
Anyone disagree? Anyone got a model for a rebuild around an ageing star that worked?
OK, suppose he comes back strong. You think he's going to be better than he was? Better enough to drag the Blazers further?Hate to break it to you but if Dame bailed on OKC and joined Curry on the Warriors then Harden and a bunch of allstars on the Nets...he'd have a ring already....Dame is injured...KD came back from a big injury too...sorry...not buying the Dame buzzkill.....I won't kick him while he's down...he's got a lot of beasting left in his career...I hope he ends it in Portland
Neil Olshey is gone....I trust Cronin to usher in the new look Blazers and hope they don't blow it up and yes....Dame will be back strong again...Chris Paul still ring hunting at 38.....Dame has plenty of time to get to the next level....I must be less impressed with Roco than you are....OK, suppose he comes back strong. You think he's going to be better than he was? Better enough to drag the Blazers further?
We tried building round Dame. Olshey actually acquired some pretty good pieces in recent trades: RoCo and Nance. They're great! But they cost us three first round picks and we're already looking to dump RoCo.
The RoCo picks could've landed us: Tyrese Maxey, Saddiq Bey, Desmond Bane. Too soon to judge the Nance pick, but we could've got Herb Jones at least.
They'd already been to the finals so they had a better roster to start with. Also Dirk had been MVP OF THE ENTIRE FUCKING NBA. Love Dame, but the only reason he's ever made first team All-NBA is because of injury to other players. He's never touched the level of Curry or Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook had such a statistically amazing year one year they had to change some advanced stats because he registered the highest score in the history of the NBA.Mavs kept overhauling their roster until they found the right combo of Chandler, Kidd, and Marion around him. Dirk was 33.
Chris Paul was ADDED TO A TEAM THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN BUILT, and that had been in the lottery for years. Nobody built the team ROUND him! That's why I suggested adding Chris Paul to OUR team, when he was still affordable, as Mr. Nas Album nicely reminded us.Neil Olshey is gone....I trust Cronin to usher in the new look Blazers and hope they don't blow it up and yes....Dame will be back strong again...Chris Paul still ring hunting at 38.....Dame has plenty of time to get to the next level....I must be less impressed with Roco than you are....
I guess we'll have to wait and see...We are not Boston in this analogy. We are Minnesota. KG was loyal to Minny for years, they tried to build around him... they failed. Then they traded him to a contender and he won a title. Do Dame the same service.
(Also: Boston already had Paul Pierce and I believe they had already acquired Ray Allen. If you think we're Boston, then presumably Dame is Paul Pierce. So who're we trading to get KG?)
So your goal is to be Minnesota a perennial loser? No thanks. I would rather have Dame and being in the Play offs every year rather then trading Dame and being in the lottery every year hoping to find another Dame.We are not Boston in this analogy. We are Minnesota. KG was loyal to Minny for years, they tried to build around him... they failed. Then they traded him to a contender and he won a title. Do Dame the same service.

Pau Gasol. Not Marc. You forgot to mention Kwame Brown and Marc Gasol. Who's our Marc Gasol?
Neil Olshey actually built a team around CP3 with the Clippers....didn't translate to championships...just like us. I said at 38 he's still ring chasing....not that the Suns are building around himChris Paul was ADDED TO A TEAM THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN BUILT, and that had been in the lottery for years. Nobody built the team ROUND him! That's why I suggested adding Chris Paul to OUR team, when he was still affordable, as Mr. Nas Album nicely reminded us.
I'd be good with that run. Those were good years and Indy had a legit shot. Sign me up!They'd already been to the finals so they had a better roster to start with. Also Dirk had been MVP OF THE ENTIRE FUCKING NBA. Love Dame, but the only reason he's ever made first team All-NBA is because of injury to other players. He's never touched the level of Curry or Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook had such a statistically amazing year one year they had to change some advanced stats because he registered the highest score in the history of the NBA.
Dame is a great small-market hero. He's almost our Reggie Miller, except Miller made it to the Finals (and might've again if not for the Malice in the Palace). Miller's the guy y'all should be touting - Indiana (Blazers East) actually did rebuild around him by incredibly canny trades and taking chances on guys like Jermaine O'Neal (what sucker franchise gave them that guy?) Artest and Captain Jack. It worked great - until predictably they went crazy.
Pau Gasol. Not Marc.
(a) that's silly
(b) presumably the precedent was already set when we traded Drexler
We have Dame. You think we're making the playoffs this year?So your goal is to be Minnesota a perennial loser? No thanks. I would rather have Dame and being in the Play offs every year rather then trading Dame and being in the lottery every year hoping to find another Dame.
