I’d actually love to have a real discussion with people about what is and isn’t racism, what makes someone racist. I understand sometimes it’s obvious, sometimes I see people get ‘blasted’ for it when I’m not quite sure, or I don’t see it.
Here’s the thing though... I see it as very important to treat people as well as I can. I’m white, I’m a male and while I don’t believe at all I’m responsible for what other white people now or in the past have done, I am responsible for what I do.
I am a Christian, which deservedly at times comes with a negative connotation next to it. I am not on here to tell anyone how to live, or convert people, or tell any of you, you’re wrong for the way you live. We all make choices based on our experiences in life for me it led to this.
To the point, there’s a respectful way to talk about racism and a disrespectful way. I don’t have the right to tell ANYONE how to feel, what can offend them. Minorities have had a tough fight in America (and honestly this is true in most countries), and I think as part of the ‘majority’ I have a responsibility to treat them well. This isn’t to say I need to walk on egg shells around them, it means I treat them like they’re just as valuable as I am, that their plight, their fight is important and I support them as they work there way out of it.
Just saying I want to talk about racism, but then dictate the conversation to ‘them’ like I can tell them what they’re allowed to be upset about is not a conversation, it’s crap...
