Seeing the thread where a few people were complaining about a certain hispanic person's style of posting, I wanted to take a moment to do just the opposite and say how much I enjoy Lawai's posts.

He's got some amazing stories and a wealth of real world knowledge. Never see him get mad.

Lawai, I don't care what Denny says, it's nice to have you posting in the OT section.

Go Blazers!

ty, ---please let the season start soon though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO BLAZERS
ps please keep the humor coming even though I know sometimes it must be difficult to be the referee.

I've noticed a few Hawaiians on Deadliest Catch, seems to me if you grew up in a paradise, Alaska would be just about the worst place you could go. Is it the money? Love of the sea and fishing?

I think lawai'a was the one who told me that you don't put an okina in "Hawaiian," as you do with "Hawai'i."

So for that I shall always hold him in high regard. I'm sure that's saved me committing countless faux pas.

People about complaining a person's style of posting, eh? That's freaking lame.

I also enjoy Lawai's posts. @lawai'a keep on posting, buddy!

the years I lived in Hilo, I had many friends who worked the Alaskan fishing circuit in the summer and chilled at home all winter....and met quite a few Alaskans that did pretty much the same...

Kona side has more than a few of the Alaskan snowbirds with a Russian potluck in the winter, fair number of folks from Kodiak where we lived and fished from though I don't stay in touch.
Hawaii an island where the planes fly everyday and the ocean isn't always mad at you. certainly paradise to me compared to Kodiak. alaska is for the young.

Sly's sucking up to get free accommodations for his next Hawaii visit. I live in Oregon City and never once has he complimented my posts. Man, this is the oldest incorporated city west of the Rockies. You'd think he'd love to visit, but NOOOOO!

This is why not:

I want to agree with Sly's appreciation of lawai'a, and broaden it to anyone else who has lived an interesting life and gives us a bit of color about it. MarAzul is an obvious member of that club, but there are several others.

Way to go, Sly. Insult me in the first post.

I do like his/her posts. We're fellow Hawaiians.

How was that an insult?

But mentioning you was the only way to get you to participate in the thread and say something nice about him.

Also for the record the first person I've ever created an appreciation thread about was you.

Please don't mention me in threads with backhanded "compliments."

Denny's a sensitive soul. It doesn't prevent him from being insulting quite commonly himself, but that doesn't change the fact that he has a sensitive soul.

Well, he had one, before he sold it, anyway.

I respond in kind.

Interesting to note the Sutter from Sutter's Mill from the California Gold Rush was in Hawaii and forced 10 Hawaiians to take him to California where he then enslaved people in my tribe during the Gold Rush. Those Hawaiians married into my tribe and a bunch of modern day people in the tribe have Hawaiian ancestry (I don't seem to, unfortunately).

" I don't care what Denny says, it's nice to have you posting in the OT section. "

You implied I don't think it's nice to have him (or her) posting in the OT section.

It's a backhanded "compliment."
