I realize his offensive game hasn't looked polished, but what I really like about the guy is that he has shown a real knack at playing the passing lanes and stealing the ball. He seems to have a keen sense for defense, and that's something you can't teach. I also think he's pretty long and athletic, which makes him that much more dangerous on defense.

I think he has a future. Either as a backup small forward or shooting guard. He could definitely be a defensive stopper if he puts in the work. Easily worth a 2nd rounder, and I think if we invest some time in him, he could be one of the best defensive players in the league. He has the tools.

I like Barton's stats.

It'll take a couple years I think, but he has the potential to be a tony allen like player.

I thought he showed a lot of intangibles in the first 3 games, so I've been looking for tangibles in game 4 - he delivered.

21pts on 8 for 11 shooting to go with 9 rebounds and 2 assists.

yeah I was about to edit and say a more athletic tony allen, which is about what josh howard is. let's hope he has a higher BB IQ tho lol

Allen was more athletic before this:

OK, Barton, I like your all around game. I just need you to do something for me:

Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.Eat, Lift, Shoot, Sleep.

Yeah he seriously just needs to go on an incredibly high calorie, high protein diet for the whole summer and lift every day.

I say Josh Howard because:
They look very similar (both skinny, dark complected)
Both the same height
Neither super athletic, but make up for it by being rangy
Both dropped lower than they should, probably because skinny and not super athletic
Similar kind of games

Howard was a senior, though, and had a few pounds on Barton.

We've got kind of a logjam on people whose best position is probably the two:
Wes, Elliot, Barton, Nolan, Batum. Oh, and Pavlovic, I guess. And they played Lillard at the two today while Bost played PG. Ideally I'd like Batum to start at the 2, but then there wouldn't be minutes for half our interesting young players.

I don't see why it would be difficult to play Batum at SF, but just give him the ball on offense more.. Just put Wesley in the corner more. I guess I've just never really understood how "starting Batum at SG" would make much, if any, difference that couldn't be made just by telling the players what they should be doing.

I really like him. In the first couple games he seemed a little uncertain what his role is; i think he is used to handling the ball more. But now he seems to have found his place. I also like how he is talking and pointing on defense. And he just seems to have that air about him like he knows he belongs in the NBA.

Barton needs to get stronger NOT bigger.

I see him like a smarter version of Travis Outlaw, super lanky and super athletic.

Barring injury I don't think he will get many minutes this year. I think he is a year away. But I like him as well. There was one play where he went coast to almost coast, where he surprised me with his ball handling skills. He just needs to keep working on every aspect of his game and be ready when they need him. Right now he is all SG IMO and I think Wes and Elliot will get most of those minutes this year.

Next year will be a different story though. He seems to be one of those players that has the "intangibles".

Edit: OOps I see Wiz already used the intangible description. Probably others as well. So I guess it must be true.

He does look a little like Outlaw, but the McMillan version and a higher bbiq.

Solid prospect.

I really like Barton, but his variance is so high it's crazy. I really think he could end up anywhere from a mediocre bench player (like he would be now) to all-star. It's just not obvious where he's going to end up, especially since it also depends on how much opportunity he gets. He does seem like a hard worker.

Good Luck Barton!

I like Barton OK ... he plays with a high basketball IQ, he's long and he looks pretty versatile, but I can't shake the feeling that maybe the NBA is going to be a league just a little bit over his head? He's way too skinny to take much physical abuse and his athleticism looks just "OK" ... and that's against Summer League competition.

Who knows what he'll end up as a finished product, but my gut tells me he's at least a year+ away from being a rotation player.

I think he may benefit from real NBA games not being so helter-skelter. He won't get out of control, he'll be able to pick and choose his spots more.

He's kind of a mini-me version of an 18 year old Tyson Chandler.

See, but that's fine. I don't expect him to be a contributor in his first year, or even his second. Shit..... Babbitt is going into his third season and I still have no expectations for that bum. Barton was a second round pick, so the way I see it, anything from him is gravy. I'm just merely saying I like what I've seen so far and I think the guy has a lot of potential. He seems to have a nose for the ball, and I'm hoping he can carry it over to the NBA.

I don't like that comparison just because: Ariza is more athletic but less skilled. Barton has guard skills and is more versatile offensively.

That's fair. Barton isn't a high flyer like Ariza. But they seem to both be at the same level quickness wise. I love how Barton gets in the passing lanes and he really showed an ability to push the ball yesterday, which surprised me.

His best bet at his frame is catching the ball off screens and hitting mid-range jumpers. 6'6" 170lbs is a bag of bones. I've been impressed with his ability to read the passing lanes though.
