He has a shooter's mentality and he can get his shot off.

He is not now, nor has he ever been a point guard. He is a shooter and I hope he fires up some more in the second half.

There is a reason why he is on this team. The Nets loved his workout. Polinsky raved about him after the workout.

He might make this team.

as long as he doesn't play the point. he's horrible PG.

awful PG, good shooter.

Maybe for instant offense off the bench but I don't like what I'm seeing, granted its on a shitty feed.

He's playing with a lot of energy, but unfortunately that's translating to "put up a lot of shots." I think it's too soon to give this guy a fair assessment. I want to see him at SG, where his responsibility is to shoot, and he doesn't have to worry about passing.

Kinda pissed because we want to see the rookies but he's really good at scoring.

Because he's not a pg. Because he's 6' 2" they feel the need to play at the point.

If he can defend PGs without embarrassing himself, he could play opposite Vince when Harris is out of the game and be a perfect compliment to space the floor. Has his shot looked as good in this game as advertised?

He is a good scorer for a 6'2 combo player... I like him for instant offense off the bench. But he clearly cannot run an offense. No PG skills.

And he's the same age as Frank!

They can hang out together on the road!

Ever since Rodney Buford and Hassan Adams left, Frank has spent most of his evenings locked in his room watching video Clockwork Orange-style.

i hear everything u guys are saying.. but he sitll dished out 5 assists in 20 minutes... which isn't too bad... but then again i didn't watch the game so. But from what i understand he had a lot more opportunities to get more assists, which is why everyone is disliking him at PG

I agree that he is not a natural PG, but what do you expect from someone who has never played point? You're talking about someone who was one of the top scorers in the country, not an assist machine. If you're wanting someone to dribble around and set up plays then he's not your man.
I was still very impressed by his overall game. He hustles like crazy, he led the team in points, assists, and rebounds (even at 6'-2"!) and I don't think it was a fluke as he averaged 6/game as a Jr. and Sr. While he did have more opportunities to pass off in some situations, you have to think about the options he's weighing in his mind. He is the best offensive option on the court and until someone stops him, why not keep the pressure on? If he was actually playing the 2 guard and he was on a team that was disciplined enough to set screens (obviously not gonna happen in a summer league game)and get him open looks, then we would see this kid light up the scoreboard.

All i'm gonna say is that if we trade Marcus and throw this guy in at point guard during the season, we'r in some trouble. Him at point would halt the development of pretty much all of our players. And yea he can score in summer games, but can he do it against NBA 2's. I just dont like the idea of having 2 undersized 2 guards on a roster with ager there also, who was pretty bad.

He sounds a lot like Ben Gordon to me. A less athletic version. Who I think is older. But similar. Good shooter, but shouldn't handle the ball most of the time. Ideally an off guard, but too small to guard most shooting guards. Probably not a good defender, but I don't really know. So a good compliment to a SG who handles PG duties, or a big point. Ala BRoy, Carter, TMac, Wade. We happen to have one of those. I think he could work well if he only played next to Vince, or maybe Harris. Marcus would make for a poor defensive combo, and Ager/Hassell couldn't handle the ball well enough. CDR could work, but I don't think he should be the primary ballhandler as a rookie. He could probably work well on the right roster, but could otherwise be poor. I'd take him, but not as a replacement for Marcus.

Welcome to S2, RJWildcat! If you have any questions, PM me! And if you have any friends who you would like to invite to S2, feel free to

I know nothing about JC, but he doesn't seem too bad for a combo guard off the bench. He'd be a great shooting option off the bench, possibly comparable to House? But I'd like to see his defense, first. I won't catch it tomorrow, either, I have my own Summer League bball to attend...

I can see a little Eddie House in him. I agree though i like Marcus better and think he should get more of a chance from us. I wouldn't mind if we have him in our roster, but not in the rotation.

Thank You! Good to be here.
For anyone who like to see what Carroll could do as a 2 guard or want to compare him to Eddie House see the links below. Carroll is a much better shooter than House...Carroll shot nearly over 50% from the field and nearly 50% from 3pt. (49.something) as a senior. House was only a 36% 3pt shooter and a 42% FG shooter. I would say he is a JJ Reddick with athletic ability. All I know is that several teams were very impressed with his pre-draft workouts, but agreed that he needed to be in the right place on the right team to succeed. Nate McMillan was raving about him, saying he was obviously known for his shooting ability but they were shocked when they saw him in person and watched how athletic he was and how well he could leap. Good for us they traded all those second rounds picks away and didn't have the chance to draft him!

I guess he's gonna make it to training camp, but I'd like to see him at his natural position and see what knind of numbers he puts up, 22/5 in 20 minutes as a primary ball handler is good, even in summer league. I am most impressed by his 8/9 ft's. would be a great guy for depth at sg and his undersize could be an asset for creating mismatches. Looking foward to seeing more.

Kerber...

“We like Jaycee. We like his game. We were trying to get a late second to draft him,” Frank insisted. “We fought very hard to get him on our team and we feel very strongly that he's got a bright future.”

If he can score 22 every night like he did Monday…

“I'm trying to show them that I'm a tough player, that I'm going to hustle every play and get some loose balls. I'm going to build to be part of a team and have a role. I'm trying to show I'm a smart player and I can listen and do what they want,” said Carroll (7-of-13 floor, 8-of-9 line).

-------

Sounds to me like this kid has a partial guarantee ("We fought very very hard to get him on our team"). Phoenix and Toronto also extended invitations. Not that a partial guarantee means anything. Not one player with a partial guarantee made an NBA team in either of the last two years...at least in time to be on the opening night roster. A couple went to the D-League and were later brought up. Hite had $20,000 guarantee last year...but Hite had another hurdle to get over beyond talent. The Nets were over the luxury tax threshold last October. They're around $10 million under it right now.

I think it's closer to $15mm right now. Pending Nenad, Boki and any trades.

Salaries
$49.4mm before rookies and free agents. Rookies are about $4mm.
Total before free agents: $53.4mm.
Luxury tax threshold estimate: $67.9mm.

Is there a single player the Nets didn't try to trade for a pick to draft?

Another one now?

Thorn should just say, the Nets wanted to field a team of 12 rookies to free up cap for James and a friend of his choice.

I dont know why it should be a surprise or suspicious.

1) the Nets have talked player development since the end of the season.

2) you should have known the Nets liked CDR and Carroll a lot from reading what the beat writers and team officials said. Dave D reported two weeks before the draft that of the 30+ players who had come to NJ at that point, CDR's workout was the best, period. If you read the comments by Polinsky after working out Carroll (reposted on NetsDaily today) you would see just how much they liked Carroll.

3) the Nets have carried four rookies twice in the last seven years: Jefferson, Collins, Armstrong and Scalabrine in 2001, and Williams, Boone, Adams and Ilic in 2006. They carried three in 2000 -- Martin, Jackson and Soumake.

we all only saw him play once so i can't say hes a good pg or a bad pg yet. It is only one game but after i watched some video he has a sg shot

Hey, I know I didn't watch the game last night, and those that did struggle thru the broadcast felt he couldn't pass and only looked for his shot...
With that said, THE CAT HAD 22/7/5 in less than 20 minutes!!!!! I don't care if it's summer league. He can clearly play ball and shoot. And the 7 rebounds at 6'2"(along with 5 assists for a gut who supposedly doesn't pass the ball) is proof the guy has hustle in him. From the look at pre-draft interviews he seems very intelligent and confident. SIGN 'em UP!!!!!!!

Every offseason they wind up getting a player(s) that falls to them that they consider trading up for.

To me it does seem fishy.

The numbers may look pretty, but I watched the entire game and I got left with an "Eh". He didnt look to pass the ball when he was assigned to run the offense as PG. And even though the shots went down, they looked forced. Not fluid at all in the game. That's just my observation from the first game.

Basically he is a hard worker with a great jump shot. Hes not that athletic and is compared to being a less athletic J.J Redick. Hes has great conditioning and has a high basketball IQ but if he doen't learn how to play the point the Nets really have no spot for him. Ager looks terrible though, I'm really disappointed in Ager. I actually hope Ager has some good games here because to me he has the body and athleticism to be a good bench player. But if Ager continues to disapoint he'll probably be cut and Carroll will have himself a spot in the locker room.
