I love my City

After a long day dealing with my family in the burbs of Bloomfield Hills there's nothing like going to down town Detroit. This thread may seem pointless to you non-detroiters, but it's gotta mean something to Detroiters and Michiganders alike.I realized how relaxing the cruise down woodward (all the way to downtown D) was today. First, the sky was clear blue with puffy white clouds...with the combination of a cool summer day and open windows with some damian marley/bob marley playing on the system...it made for a nice, relaxing cruise through downtown D. Despite the fact that there are parts of Detroit that are being rebuilt, still, it's satisfying just because I know eventually whatever garabage used to be there will be real nice in a few years. After you get past that, you come across Tiger Stadium, and Ford Field right next to each other, while the "Roof Top" Hockey Town Cafe is right across the street. There are people moving everywhere, giving a sence of life to the notorious city. Than comes Campus Martius and all of the new things that are being built up...by now, I've got a cigarette lit...and I can see the GM towers. Next is Mr. Spirit of Detroit...naked at this time because there's no sports. The Fist. Hart Plaza. The Detroit River...Cobo...the list doesn't end. It took 30 minutes of driving, but it was well worth it...any of you Michigan people should def do this sometime. I wanted to stop next to the river, but I had class so I had to go...but Detroit is a sick city.

Sounds relaxing. I've never been to Detroit. Don't know much about it either.

I feel the same about Memphis...its just a feeling you get you cant get in any other city...Beale Street is such a relaxing place to walk around during the day, great smell of food, always some good music, history...its really great.We are forunate to live in cities with culture..some people have to deal with small towns...thats gotta be boring.

I guess its wherever your raised then...I personaly dont ever see myself moving away from Memphis...and if I did I would move to Houston cause its alot like Memphis...

We have one road that is only four lanes with no divider that goes through the entire town. Yeah, we have the Peabody which is a megaplex. We also have a IMAX theatre at the Pink Palace...its pretty nice. Im not sure, but I think NBA teams stay at the Peabody when they come to Memphis...its very nice.

The best of the D is those hood enclaves where I still get love. Nothing like it in the world. When I bring Detroit up, Reppin always will have a place in my cabinet.

haha...see this is what im talking about...small towns have got to be boring. Yeah, we get baseball, football and bball games too. Of course the Grizzlies and Tigers, the Redbirds(basebball) and Football Tigers. We did have a XFL team...haha. MEMPHIS MANIACS...apparently it beat about MEMPHIS GANGSTAS-N-THUGS....

Hey, come to my city! Gay Liberals everywhere! :happy0144: But seriously, when you get away from the screwy politics of this city, you can really appreciate all of the things here. One of the most diverse cities in the US, and one with the best looking architecture and parks. The Painted Ladies, Golden Gate Park, Coit Tower, Fort Point, Golden Gate Bridge, TransAmerica Pyramid, the Presidio, Ferry Building, AT&T Park, City Hall, Cable cars, Palace of Fine Arts, Lombard Street, SFMOMA, & Alcatraz. And I agree, you always get a certain feeling of "home" when you're in your city. I just got back from beautiful weather in Nevada City, but for some reason I couldn't wait to get back to the 65 degree fog here in San Francisco. Gotta love your city...

We got lost plenty of times, it was extremly dangerous at some points...but we got a lot out of it. I have lived in rich suburbs all my life...and it's funny becuase whenever I bring up "Lets go to Detroit" to all of my suburb friends...it's like the scariest thing they could ever do. 2 weeks ago, my friend (who I mentioned before) took me out to a place called the Dequindre cut...it's basically an abondoned system of rail road tracks with tunnels throughout the track. We went down there...there were homeless people everywhere...but it was secluded because sorrounding the rail roads were abondoned buildings. The reason we went down there was to see some graffiti that some underground artists had painted. I agree Reppin. I never realized how much I loved home until I moved away. I'm actually planning on getting a backpeice tattoo of the Detroit skyline soon.

Everything was different; the food was bland (they didn't know what CRAWFISH was, let alone GUMBO!?!?!) and there was nothing much fun to do. I didn't know if I'd ever survive :no1:
